Free Music Review: A step up from the last album
Hit: 5 Stars

As witty as "The Marshall Mathers LP" was, "The Eminem Show" seems to be even wittier. This time, Eminem concentrates less on pushing buttons, and more on social and personal commentary.

Curtains Up(skit) - Just some sound effects giving the impression of Em walking up to a microphone.

White America - A heavy sounding song about how Eminem has unwittingly reached so many people in so many different ways. He points out how he wouldn't be targeted so much if he was black.

Business - Dre's G-funk production is easily recognizable here, and is just as groovy as ever. Em plays the role of Robin to Dre's Batman, much like the current video for "Without Me".

Cleaning Out My Closet - Self explanatory title. Here, Em once again vents his thoughts on his fame, ex-wife, and mother, but manages to say enough new stuff to keep from sounding repetative.

Square Dance - Don't let the title fool you, its still a rap song. Em says this song overall is intended to help you forget stuff and let loose. A few pot shots at Cannabis pop up here.

The Kiss(skit) - A loose recreation of the events that led to Eminem's arrest.

Soldier - With all the negative press, lawsuits, and newfound fame coming at him, Em describes himself as someone who keeps moving along despite all the pressure around him.

Say Goodbye to Hollywood - This seems to be Em saying that after all the things that have happened to him, he can't be carefree anymore.

Drips - A tale about how Obie Trice hooked up with a fictional girlfriend of Eminem, and wound up getting some kind of STD. Basically, this song is a graphic picture about the dangers of unprotected sex.

Without Me - The traditional, catchy, leadoff single with the Slim Shady persona in full force. Sounds different enough from "My Name Is" and "The Real Slim Shady" to hold its own.

Paul Rosenbeurg(skit) - Em's manager urgently warns him not to carry his gun around.

Sing for the Moment - Using a sample of Aerosmith's "Dream on", Em tells us in his own unique way how and why kids are drawn to him and entertainers in general.

Superman - A twisted semi-love song about Em's ex-wife. He indicates they may get back together down the road, but for now he could care less because "I can't be your Superman".

Halie's Song - A heartfelt ode to his beloved daugher. Em himself admits that he can't sing that good. Someone said how this sounded similar to the boy bands that Em puts down. Well, the difference is he wrote this himself, and the feelings are real.

Steve Berman(skit) - The head of Interscope records doesn't get a chance to say what he wants to say about this album.

When the Music Stops - The members of D-12 lend a hand in telling how life can be rough when the focus is not on music anymore.

Say What U Say - Em and Dre go back and forth in dissing Jermaine Dupri.

'Till I Collapse - The beat is identical to Queen's "We Will Rock You", and makes for an arena-rock sounding ode to Em's desire to continue on. Nate Dogg provides a very catchy chorus.

My Dad's Gone Crazy - Em's daughter is featured here, and she comments on what we've known all along. All the subject matter on the album is summed up well in the last few verses.

Curtains Close(skit) - Ken Kaniff is left all by himself as "The Eminem Show" ends.

... about for a sec then tells his mind.Em shows his songwriting gift.VERY GOOD SONG.
20-Curtain's Close-Ken Keniff is back closing out the show.

Rating:
15/10

This CD really impressed me and should impress you as well.

Free Music Review: Em's newest effort
Hit: 5 Stars

This really is a great cd. Listening to it almost feels like an autobiography. Em continues where he left on in "The Marshall Mathers LP" and keeps everything very fresh.
2.White America--Em bashes Lynne Cheney, the "hypocrisy" of America, and what he calls "The United States of Embarrassment". At the end of the track though, em laughs and utters "I'm just playin America, you know i love you."-4/5
3.Buisness--Em shows his "Sidekick" partnership with Dr. Dre in this "Batman and Robin" feel type track. My favorite parts of this song is the end of each chorus when Em ask "Can i get a witness?", and Dre yells "Hell yeah!".-4/5
4.Cleanin Out My Closet--Everyone has heard this song and anyone can recognize the catchy chorus. Slim tells us about this drug-addict mother, his cheating wife, and his bad public persona. Nothing you haven't heard before. Nonetheless, great lyrics-4/5
5.Square Dance--Very deceiving title...This song bashes the Bush administration and doesn't let up. Great song to get mad to. The chorus can get very annoying though.-3/5
7.Soldier--This song has a very interesting beat. Very good lyrics too, about how em has learned to take all of the hard times in his life like a soldier. One of my favorites on the cd-5/5
8.Say Goodbye Hollywood--This song really isn't that bad. The beat sounds like it took only a few minutes to create, but I really like the lyrics-3/5
9.Drips--A very amusing song about sex (etc.) feat. Obie Trice. The edited version of this album does not include this song.-4/5
10.Without Me--Em brings back his alter-ego Slim Shady for this song and does not dissapoint. The beat on this track reminds me of "The Real Slim Shady". This is a very funny song.-5/5
12.Sing for the Moment-Em's take on the classic Aerosmith tune "Dream On". Dream On is one of my favorite (rock) songs of all time, and I think Em really does the song justice. A little slow, but great rhyming-5/5

13.Superman--When I bought this cd, I expected this track to be a lot better. To be honest, I was quite dissapointed at this song. I do like the hook in the middle, though, but the chorus is more annoying than not-3/5
14.Hailies Song--I love this song. Eminem takes time out to actually sing a very heartfelt song for his daughter, and does a very good job. Em is actually an o.k. singer and the chorus in this song is song has been stuck in my head for days-4/5
16.When the Music Stops--This track could have easily been on a D12 cd, since every member of the group has a verse in it. I actually like Bizarre's verse the best in this song no matter how crazy that sounds.-4/5
17.Say What you Say--A pretty cool song w/ Dre, but the chorus is very reppetitive and boring. This song could have used some re-tooling-3/5
18.'Till I Collapse-A very basic beat, and some very above-average lyrics. And, what modern rap song in this day is complete without a chorus by Nate Dogg?-5/5
19.My Dad's Gone Crazy--This is definitely the most underrated song on the cd. I did not even know this track existed until I bought this album. Em's daughter, Hailie Jade Scott, sings a line in the chorus that makes this a fun song to listen too. While the second verse is kind of disgusting, the third verse in this song will have you re-winding your cds to listen to it over and over and over again. Wow-5/5
This CD is definitely worth the money and is a good choice to buy. Part II of the Marshall Mathers LP, and even better. 10/10 lyrics, 9/10 beats, and 10/10 production

Free Music Review: This album is almost TOO flawless!! (Except for #19).
Hit: 5 Stars

I love rap. But most of the rap albums I have have only 3 or 4 great songs on it and the rest are okay or just stink. A couple of examples are "The Great Depression" and "Love Is Pain". Even Eminem's "Stan" is not nearly as good as this. Here's my opinion on each of the songs, not including the 3 skits and the "skitlike" "The Kiss".

#2 White America- 8/10- I love the verses of this song and the chorus is good too, but maybe he could've been a bit quieter on the volume.

#3 Business- 10/10- This song is outstanding, and the "H*ll Yeah!" parts by Dr. Dre are amazing as well. I also like the background tune for the chorus.

#4 Cleanin' Out My Closet- 10/10- Although he's pretty mean to his mother at some points of this song, he probably doesn't mean it. But anyway, he actually can sing in this song. I also LOVE the background tune throughout the whole song.

#5- Square Dance- 9/10- There are three parts of this song where he really changes his style of singing and puts a likingness into it. That's when he's on "...not even on my radar...", "...oh no I won't leave no...", and "...gotta take some antibiotic...". The chorus is okay.

#7- Soldier- 6/10- This song sort of continues out of the violent Kiss. But anyway, the chorus is too boring. It doesn't have much excitement in it. But the verses are good for Eminem's fast singing.

#8- Say Goodbye Hollywood- 6/10- Again, the chorus is too boring. But again, the verses are good and the beat of the chorus is good too.

#9- Drips- 10/10- This song is SICK!! But Obie's chorus, the main sick part, is pretty good. Why is he saying "...[that]..."? Anyway, the weird tuned chorus is also awesome and then Eminem's part, too.

#10- Without Me- 9/10- The "Stan" of this album, this song is a big hit and lots of reviewers are using "Shady's Back" in a way in their title. Eminem adds a huge variety of voices and tunes in this song. And there are also good sound effects. The chorus is catchy.

#12- Sing For The Moment- 8/10- The chorus is the only part of this song that I don't really like. And I completely don't understand the "Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away part", but the verses are pure awesome.

#13- Superman- 10/10- One of my favorites, this song has such an awesome opening, 3 stupendous verses, and the outstanding chorus. You just cannot hate this song.

#14- Hallie's Song- 9/10- Eminem puts a tremendous effort into singing into this song, but I'm sorry, it just wasn't enough. But the rapping part towards the end is awesome and so is the chorus.

#16- When The Music Stops- 10/10- Although Bizzare's part at the end is ridiculous, different rappers use different ways of singing in this incredible beated song. I know it all by heart, like other songs on this album, but it was the hardest to learn.

#17- Say What You Say- 10/10- My top pick on this album. Dr. Dre and Eminem have never sung better before and everything, the background beat, the chorus, the verses, and the switching of rappers is too incredible. I love this song!

#18- Till I Collapse- 8/10- Maybe the beat is too hard, but Nate Dogg's chorus is great. Eminem's chorus's are pretty good.

#19- My Dad's Gone Crazy- 5/10- So many of my friends love this song, but it just doesn't suit me too well. Hallie's voice is a bit annoying, but when she's talking, it's great. No offense to Eminem. And the rest of the chorus and song is just too uninteresting.

So overall, this album is by far Eminem's best. The 3 skits are pretty good, too.

Free Music Review: .....Definitely a show worth watching
Hit: 5 Stars

Marshall "Eminem" Mathers took the world by storm once his single "My Name Is" was released. Some people looked at his style as eerie and twisted humor and others actually realized that he had skills. Whatever the formula, people ate it up real quick and Eminem soon became a household name. Yes, some of the press was from his controversial lyrics, but at the same time, his distinct style created a path for him to remain an artist for years to come. On his 2nd disc, "The Marshall Mathers LP", Eminem definitely put himself on the map. His 1st single "The Real Slim Shady" only created a small path for the CD's better songs like "The Way I Am", "I'm Back", "B Please 2", "Kill You", "Who Knew" and the CD's smash hit, "Stan" w/Dido. After selling 1.7 million units in the 1st week of sales, no one could deny Eminem of his "status". Many social groups came to speak out about his controversial lyrics and the haters were everywhere but that only made more people buy the CD. That's what a lot of people that don't deal with music don't understand. More press just adds to better record sales. Before his 3rd disc was released, Eminem's group, D12, would go on to release a CD and because of the success of the singles "Purple Pills" and "Fight Music" the CD went on to go platinum. He also appeared on and produced the song "Renagade" that was on Jay Z's "Blueprint" CD. On his 3rd disc, "The Eminem Show", Eminem's displays a lot of the antics that he did on his previous 2 CDs. However, this time is seems that Mr. Mathers is more about his business. The songs aren't as playful as the songs on "The Marshall Mathers LP. "White America" starts the CD off in pure Eminem fashion. He plays off of the irony on how he has been successful in a world that he is not set up to be successful in. Check the chorus out.. "I could be one of your kids", "Little Eric could look like this", "Erica loves my s...", I go to TRL, look how many hugs I get". He sceams the words "White America" between each line. The first single, "Without Me", does the same thing that "The Real Slim Shady" did for "The Marshall Mathers LP". It's not one of "The Eminem Show's" better songs but it gets the listener's attention enough to make you want to buy the CD. The CD's best song in my opinion is definitely "Cleanin' Out My Closet". This song allows Eminem to tell his side of the story about everything that has gone on between him and his mom. It's as honest as he can get and his fans should be able to appreciate this track. "I'm sorry Mama, I never meant to hurt you, I never meant to make you cry, but tonight I'm cleanin' out my closet". This songs also allows you to see how everyday life is seen through Eminem's eyes. The production is handled primarily by Eminem himself. Dr. Dre produces 3 songs: "Business", "My Dad's Gone Crazy" w/Eminem's own daughter Hailie Jade and "Say What You Say", where Eminem and Dr. Dre rip "Mini-Me" (Jermaine Dupri) apart with each line. Other noteworthy songs include "Square Dance", "When The Music Stops" w/D 12, "Sing For The Moment" and "Drips" w/Obie Trice from D 12. This CD definitely displays Eminem's versatility. Overall, any fan of Eminem's previous 2 CDs will enjoy "The Eminem Show". It is definitely worth the price of admission.

James' Top 5

1) Cleanin' Out My Closet
2) Square Dance
3) Sing For The Moment
4) Say What You Say w/Dr. Dre
5) Drips w/Obie Trice of D 12

Free Music Review: The best show ever!
Hit: 5 Stars

So "The Eminem Show" is probably my favorite solo album by Eminem. He focuses more on his own life, and less on controversial issues, resulting in a more mature sound. Although not as funny as the previous albums, this one reveals a deeper side of Marshall Mathers.

White America: A catchy tune stating "If I was black, I would of sold half". It basically says that being white is no longer a barrier in his career. 9.5/10

Business: A funny duo with Dre, crazy beat. 9/10

Cleaning Out My Closet: One of Eminem's best songs. A serious reflection of his childhood and adult life, containing accusations of his mother "poppin' prescription pills in the kitchen" and threatening that Hailie won't even be at her funeral. 10/10

Square Dance: Political song, referencing anthrax and drafts. Upbeat. 8.5/10

The Kiss: This is Eminem's reenactment of catching Kim kissing another guy. Although a skit, it leads nicely into Soldier. 10/10

Soldier: Despite all the fame surrounding him, negative publicity and pressures, Eminem continues forward until "the fire dies". 10/10

Saying Goodbye to Hollywood: Eminem hints at his unhappiness with his newfound fame. Though he is successful now, a part of him simply wants to quit. 10/10

Drips: The most graphic song, with Obie Trice's lyrics extremely obscene. Eminem's lyrics are alright, but the song is fictional and out of place. 7/10

Without Me: The necessary happy radio single. Similar to "My Name Is" and "The Real Slim Shady", though not simply repetitive. 9/10

Sing For the Moment: Lyrically, the best song by Eminem. He explains why people relate to hip-hop, and why he raps. Using an Aerosmith sample from "Dream On", Eminem also offers advice with "seize the moment, try to freeze it and own it, squeeze it and hold it, cuz we consider these moments golden". 15/10

Superman: Another song featuring Dina Rae, and a personal favorite. Eminem talks about women and his attachment (or lack thereof) to those in his life. Check out the video. 15/10

Hailie's Song: Eminem sings in this song, thankful to finally have custody of his daughter again. "It all makes sense when I look into her eyes". 10/10

When the Music Stops: Featuring D12, and making fun of Mariah again. :) They talk about the blurred distinction between reality and music. 9/10

Say What You Say: Jermaine Dupri diss with Dre. 9.5/10

Till I Collapse: Awesome beat, with a catchy chorus by Nate Dogg. Em talks about his motivation to "get up and not be a quitter" 10/10

My Dad's Gone Crazy: Hailie sings in this one. The last verse is the best, talking about the various interpretations of his music and how he'll never bite his tongue. 10/10

Overall, The Eminem Show is most def five stars *****. The various skits, though some would say a waste of space, contribute greatly by adding to the story of Eminem. They help to make this one of the few albums you can listen to, start to finish, and hear so many different sounds and ideas. The Eminem Show really shows increasing skill and maturity, while still retaining the controversy you would expect from such an artist. This album provides hardcore proof that Eminem will be around much longer, and only leaves the listener wondering what he will come up with next.
