Free Music Notes for Songbird: Rare Tracks and Forgotten GemsFree Music Review: a selection that spans deep emotions Hit: 5 Stars
I finally found a few words that make sense in a song that is called "Falling in a Deep Hole" at the beginning of Disc 3 on the Emmylou Harris box set "Songbird":
Mixed up like a puzzle, you put me together.
Paranoia nightmare, raging in my sleep,
you kiss me on the cheek and wake me.
Want to go to paradise, Baby, you can take me.
Paranoia nightmare is not a phrase that comes to mind when I am listening to great praise, and I never heard it that way. I was not able to find the lyrics in the typical Emmylou Harris webpages, but the song is posted as "Falling Deeper" by Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert. The musical interlude just before the mixed up like a puzzle verse is now some of my favorite combinations of notes, and this version (never before released) is beautifully done.

Songbird: Rare Tracks and Forgotten Gems
If you have ever driven down a long lonesome highway and searched the dial for a station that just plays "good" music, not what Nashville or LA says is "good", but songs that came from writers and muscians that did not fit any marketing mold, this set of CDs from Emmylou and all of her legendary guests and bands is for you. But, the first time you listen be sure to have the accompanying book with you so you can reference who the writers, vocalists and players are on every song. Just a hint of who's who; Johnny Cash, Guy Clark, Albert Lee, Steve Earle, Linda Ronstandt, Patty Griffin, Rodney Crowell, Ricky Skaggs, Sam Bush, The Whites etc etc.
Free Music Review: Incredible set! Hit: 5 Stars
The music on this set speaks for itself, you don't get the hits, instead you get the rare stuff, duets, tributes, album cuts etc. Incredible music. The packaging for this set matches the music. Inclosed in a hard case with two hard cover booklets inside. One houses the five discs, the other is a 200 page book with track by track notation, filled photos and song info and intro by Emmylou herself. A beautiful set and well worth the price of admission.
Note: The packaging is top notch, however the discs are very difficult to remove from the sleeves. You do have to be careful or risk tearing the sleeve.
Free Music Review: A MUSICAL CELEBRATION OF A LEGEND Hit: 5 Stars
What a awesome collection! I agree with the other reviewers who have complained about the poor packaging but as far as Emmylou Harris there is absolutely nothing poor or lacking! All of her hits from "Pieces of the Sky" to "Red Dirt Girl" are represented on this special collection as well as songs from special projects and live performances. This is a ABSOLUTE must for any Emmylou Harris fan. Do not let the negative comments about the packaging keep you from purchasing this great collection. Also, check out Emmy's new album, "All I Intended to Be"--another *****album!
Free Music Review: Great music in a beautiful package Hit: 5 Stars
Let's start with the packaging that is as elegant as Emmylou Harris herself. The booklet is expansive, informative, and beautiful. Extracting the CDs is a bit of a challenge, but not nearly as bad as some reviewers made it sound. The music is what Emmylou fans would expect: first-rate. Even if you have an extensive Emmylou Harris collection, most of the songs on Songbird will be new to you, making the set worth the rather lofty price. Songbird will make a wonderful gift for a dear friend, but give the gift to yourself first.
