Free Music Notes for Enigma 3: Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi!

Free Music Review: Guys, the best is here!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

It's the second review that I do about Enigma albums after "The cross of changes", and now my interest is taken from "Le roi est mort, vive le roi!". The songtitle is a good introduction to your acustic adventure. "Morphine thru time" makes you calm and its catchy melody covers everything like a velvet sheet. The same feelings are producted by "Beyond the invisible", which represents a main element of the album. This is followed by "Why!...". THIS IS THE BEST!!! It'll guide you to another universe, with sweet sounds but also with the power of the singer's voice. He shows his troubles and the questions he can't answer to. The next song must be heard in the dark, with no disturbs: the dull percussions and the pleasant melody of "Shadows in silence" are the right ways to leave our world for some minutes and find another one to land on. "The child in us" reminded me to people and places I knew in the past, and I know there's a spirit inside us that will never die. The 8th song is "T.N.T. for the brain". It goes a bit faster than the other songs, and you can hear how modern sounds and the words whispered from the singer make this one a great experience. All turns into relax with "Almost full moon", which follows Morphine thru time's rhythm, so you can find the first songs' calm...but just for a moment: "The roundabout" comes with dance passion and tribal drums. It's time again for a quiet song ("Prism of life")which has continuos voices in the background that go with a same kind of percussions. Finally, "Odyssey of the mind" closes the circle created by this incredible album. Once again Enigma shows, to the ones who care, that real music can be made only through real emotions.

Free Music Review: Top of the Line
Hit: 5 Stars

I love all of Enigma's albums, so when I say that this one is my favorite, that puts it at the top of a rare class.

The original album was a unique treasure. Each one since has made a different kind of splash. I always felt Cross of Changes, the second album, got caught between reaching for something new and not venturing too far away from what worked in the original. The fourth album, Screen Behind the Mirror, has a subdued sound and a lot of new and interesting sounds cycled with the beat. I feel as if it is more of an instrumental experiment.

Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi, is the most soulful of the four. Both in the lyrics, which I find compelling, and the music, which is up tempo and always make me feel like dancing, I find the experience is more immersive. I get the sense that the artists trusted themselves the most with this project. They tapped in to some deep veins and rode the majesty of the flows they found for all they were worth. This album sucks me in and won't let go!

"Why" is the strongest single track Enigma has produced, in my view. It comes in the middle of this album, after strong lead-ins, then the music carries on from there. Sometimes I like to play through the album as it's designed, but sometimes I start at Why, play to the end, start over at the beginning, and play through to a second listen of Why.

I enjoy Enigma's music because it carries me in to my own mind, my thoughts and emotions, my imagination. All the albums have this effect on me, but this one has the strongest wave. If you like any of their other stuff, I can't imagine you not liking this album.

Free Music Review: Excellent atmospheric music
Hit: 5 Stars

When Michael Cretu released Enigma's first album in 1990, I wasn't at all impressed. Somehow it's hit-song, "The Principles of Lust", turned me off with its poppy rhythm. I never intended to buy this record either, but by virtue of chance I got acquainted with it. I was so surprised! The music on "Le Roi Est Mort" is excellent, very deep and emotional, atmospheric and entertaining. Michael Cretu definitely stepped forward from his debut. His new-age rhythms are carfully interwoven with early Jean-Michel Jarre references, ethnic and world music influences, and Enigma's trademark gregorian chanting. But not only that, but also chanting in Latvian language and in Sanscrit are inserted into the sonic texture, and it's all blended together just perfectly.

What surprises me most about Enigma 3 is its dual-faced nature. If you feel like relaxing, you just put the CD on, and you have a pleasant listen that is very easy on your brain. But if you want to look deeper, you'll find so many layers of sound, that any demanding listener would be satisfied. This is a proof of quality. I'm also amazed at the strength of songwriting on Enigma 3, as it is a collection of equally strong tracks. I'm quite surprised at people complaining about Cretu's vocals. This is no opera, and Michael's singing blends with the music perfectly, never sounding odd or off-key. Female vocals are also good and suit the nature of the music.

I think this is one of those rare albums that has the potential to please anyone without sounding poppy or mainstream. Cretu proves his strength as a composer and performer. Very recommended.

Free Music Review: Highly Recommended

I found this cd an absolute joy to listen to when I first bought it, and it never left my CD player for a good 3 months. Enigma retained much of the contemplative ambiance that made it's music famous with it's 1990 release MCMXC A.D., yet still managed to further vary it's influences from Gregorian chants to Mideastern and even Asian influences. It's a comfortable departure from MCMXC A.D. and Cross of Changes, but not such a drastic change as to warrant a totally new audience.

To merely classify this as good background music for easy listeners doesn't really give the album ,or Enigma, for that matter, justice. Such a statement amounts to stating Beethoven's 5th symphony would make a good theme for a sit- com.

The tone and mood of the songs ranges from the seductive yet fast paced "T.N.T. for the Brain" to the slow flowing, contemplative "Morphing through Time", to the nostalgic, almost eulogic and beutifully performed "Child Within Us." "Child Within Us." is my personal favorite and makes me shed a tear with it's nostalgic style. It can best be described as a eulogy for the lost innocence of childhood. That song alone is worth the entire cost of the album.

There is no song on this album that I dislike. Each one is expertly performed and mixed, and there are a great many gems on this album.

But then, what else can one expect from the man who thrust New Age into the spotlight with a commentary about the Marquis de Sade sung entirely in French which he sold to an American audience?

Free Music Review: Awesome, great New Age!
Hit: 5 Stars

I have to say, I downloaded "The Child in Us" on IMesh, and I fell in love of the whole aura the song portrayed. I bought the CD just for this song, but I fell in love of it all. Enigma is one of those artists who really makes music, and every touch, detail, and passion can be felt. The songs with lyrics, as well as those without each have a special meaning which transports you to someplace inside and make reflections. Even though some songs do not have lots and lots of lyrics, are brief but just right and DO HAVE A MEANING. Another point is that the music never stops from a song to the other, it is just a pleasant trip and the changes between songs are just well worked so each escence does not get lost or has an abrupt ending. Powerful "The Roundabout" and "Why...! bring an interesting mixture of soft and agressive vocals, maintaining the concept of new age music blends; meanwhile, soft and beautiful "Child in Us", "Prism of Life", and "Shadows in Silence" totally brings auras of peace and thought. New Age is the music of the future as many already have that concept in mind, and will possibly be. This is way better than most of the musical crap among popular music, and when I listen to each song here I am just transported to a NEW ERA, and forget about what is being heard outside =)
