Free Music Notes for Hello & WelcomeFree Music Review: I want more Hit: 4 Stars
I had low expectations for this single, but I was very surprised. Having a very complete collection of Enigma's singles, I'd put this near the top. Although simple in it's
architecture, it leaves you breathlessly awaiting the full album
promised by year's end. Those that disapprove of this new material are probably only familiar with Cretu's work as Enigma, but he's been around many years before that entity and he has always had a unique sound. His releases starting with
Voyageur (IMO) are returning to his earlier sound; frankly I love the path he's taking.
Free Music Review: Too much noise Hit: 3 Stars
It's Enigma... but different. This is more like a pop/techno set than his other stuff. There's a lot of tinny, flaky background noise. There are some places where the noise is used as an instrument to play bars of the song or a pattern, but otherwise it just makes me wonder if I've blown a speaker. 3 stars because Enigma totally rules and there are some good sections of music amongst the noise.
Free Music Review: A weak enigma single. Hit: 2 Stars
In my opinion this is one of the weakest Enigma single that Michael Cretu has released. I am a big Enigma fan and have imported rare/limited editions of his music from Europe.
The fact is that this track was intended to be a promo for the German middleweight boxer Felix Sturm and was only released in Germany. The track was written for him to walk into the ring to for a championship fight.
The track opens with the same church organs that opens for the old single 'The Rivers of Belief'. The electric guitars and slow heavy beats that take over simply do not work together on an enigma single. There is nothing enigmatic about this single compared to other releases.
Andru Donalds provides the vocals but unfortunately his voice seems strained as if he is shouting at times.
The video is included on this CD but certainly is not characteristic of an Enigma video. It is purely a montage of Felix Sturm boxing, training and looking at the camera and nothing more.
As a promotional song for a boxer yes the song works. As for being the next step in the evolving sound of Enigma I'm afraid the track fails. This item will probably appeal to collectors of Enigma music due to its Germany only release.
Free Music Review: A Little Disappointing.... Hit: 2 Stars
I was expecting more from this single, and so I am disappointed in the overall package. I like that Enigma takes chances and tries new things, but at the end of this song, I just feel empty, like so much more could have been done with it, especially with the background choir-type voices and beat. I'll still listen to it, but it is by far not on my list of greatest Enigma music.
Free Music Review: is the real enigma solved? Hit: 2 Stars
