Free Music Notes for Seven Lives Many Faces (2 CDs)Free Music Review: Very disappointing Hit: 2 Stars
I have been a huge fan of Enigma ever since I bought their first album. I own, and frequently listen to, all of Enigma's previous albums and have loved them all. However, this album was very disappointing! What happened?! :( I hardly liked a single one of the songs on either disc I bought the 2-disc edition of Seven Lives Many Faces). There were only two songs that I thought were okay but I probably wouldn't listen to them again. This is very surprising for me. Considering how much I liked all of Enigma's previous albums, I never expected to think this new album was bad. In the past I always looked forward to Enigma's next album as soon as their latest brillantly-composed music was released.
Free Music Review: High production value, low on actual content Hit: 2 Stars
Enigma has dropped the ball on this one. With monotonous and grating solo ethnic chants, slow hip-hop style beats and no decent vocalist to carry the album (where is Sandra??), the album falls flat. You just don't get into it. Perhaps this is a sign of an aging band. While definitely a throwback to the first album, it is a weak version of it.
I own all of the Enigma albums, and this is by far the worst. At best it will round out your collection.
Free Music Review: Disappointing effort Hit: 2 Stars
Several listens and it's clear that this release is the weakest work of the Enigma catalog. While there are good elements scattered throughout the album (the vocal on 'La Puerta Del Cielo' is a highlight), the obtrusive, heavy handed "hip-hop" beats are overbearing and just don't fit. Creating a mellow mood is what Enigma has always been about, but this album makes me feel anything but mellow.
Free Music Review: The weekest album Hit: 2 Stars
I listened to this CD 3 times. I thought that I was missing something. It was boring and repetitious. I was going to give one star, but I loved the CD cover art very much.
Free Music Review: Enigma's worst effort Hit: 1 Stars
I remember a time when Enigma was synonym with great music. Not in this case. This is by far Enigma's weakest effort. The result is unfocused, hurried, and altogether lacks the quality of prior releases. There is a general feeling of low quality and cheapness to it.Gone are the attention to detail and the quest for new and exciting sounds, and all the ones present in these records are tired repetitions of old sounds and seemed performed by some one trying to imitate Enigma.
There was a time when you could by an Enigma record without having heard it before (as I did in this case), but not anymore. The singing isn't up to par either.
A sure way to diminish their legacy.
