Free Music Review: Not the Enigma it was being made out to be
Hit: 3 Stars

Okay, i had high hopes for it and did something i don't normally do...i bought first, listened later. It doesn't retain the sound that catapalted enigma to popularity back in the day. There is "some" reminence here, but it still reminds me more of the voyageur sound...which i was also slightly disappointed with. I'm going to do all of you a big favor here though...The two main people from engima did a side project within the last year or so with another band that sounds like the old enigma many came to love. The CD is entitled "Achillea"...It is amazing. I promise you'll like this CD if you enjoyed enigmas first few CD's. I discovered by scouring forums a while back.

Anyway, is this CD worth buying? i'm not sure. I bought it, i don't regret it because it still has some gems and some decent sounds, but i was disappointed....and WTH was up with Track 6 "Hell's Heaven" There are some HORRID sounds placed into that song that do nothing to help the beat or overall feel of the song...If that was Hell's Heaven would sound like...then i never want to visit such a place even more so.

i really miss some of their old instrumentals...especially the one that starred in engima's "Sadness" track

Free Music Review: Disappointing effort
Hit: 2 Stars

Several listens and it's clear that this release is the weakest work of the Enigma catalog. While there are good elements scattered throughout the album (the vocal on 'La Puerta Del Cielo' is a highlight), the obtrusive, heavy handed "hip-hop" beats are overbearing and just don't fit. Creating a mellow mood is what Enigma has always been about, but this album makes me feel anything but mellow.

Free Music Review: Amazing Enigma!
Hit: 5 Stars

I thought all of Enigma's previous CD's were great, but "Seven Lives Many Faces" is even more amazing than their previous ones. It has a mixture of beautiful sounds, which are so other-worldly that it gave me chills. And you can't help but get up and start dancing to the unusual sounds and rhythms. Love, love Enigma!

Free Music Review: Magnificent, modern Enigma!
Hit: 4 Stars

Enigma suddenly released their seventh album only 2 years after A Posteriori, and it's easily one of the best ones they've released! While the lackluster A Posteriori went for a more new age sound, Seven Lives Many Faces returns to the days of Enigmas 1-4, only with a more modern element. The album is heavy on samples of chants (particularly in the second half), but it also features very heavy beats and basslines, which makes this their most ambient and trance-like outing yet. This goes perfectly with the miscellaneous swirls of soundscapes that move this album along. The production on it is outstanding! To me, the music sounds perfectly layered, almost 3D. You can listen to it on headphones and always hear new nuances whispering in the background with each listen. Standout tracks include "The Same Parents" (easily the most moving Enigma song ever), "Touchness", "Hell's Heaven" and the string & hip-hop infused "Seven Lives".

Included also is a bonus disc containg 4 extra songs and a remix of "The Language of Sound". The extra songs are even more abstract than those found on the album, but they're stunning nonetheless. I would compare them to the songs found on Nine Inch Nails' experimental Ghosts I-IV album, but Enigma style.

Overall, this album is extraordinary! While it's not my pick for best Enigma album ever (that honor goes to Voyageur), it's still one of their strongest and most complete offerings.

Free Music Review: C'mon stop living in the past!
Hit: 5 Stars

Jeez, everyone wants Sadeness and Return To Innocence all the time! Well listen to them and let the bias go! Yes, it was a magical time then. How many "artists" junped on the bandwagon and went so far as to even steal the Enigma beat?! (Delerium, anyone?) This is the Cretu we have all loved and needed for 18yrs now. This is simply the best Enigma (or anything like it) product in years! True fans rejoice! Cretu is still the Father of our most beloved music. Buy it! Remember Enigma 3? This is it for 2008.
