Free Music Review: Eno Does Road Musik

This one took a while to sink in with me, I must admit. But I took it on a long drive and found it hard to avoid afterwards. It starts with Riley-esque (I heard a lot of Sri Camel in the first part) detachment, but then builds into very funky subliminal suggestion. It has replaced the soundtrack to Koyaanisqatsi as my fave for long drives...for now. It does show Eno's ongoing influence, regardless.

Brian Eno's ambient soundtrack originated as the score for Derek Jarman's last film Glitterbug, which was released shortly after his death in 1994. Derek never saw it finished, but Jah Wobble was then given the stereo tapes, which he worked over & fired up his inimitable style. This was the very first time that Eno had allowed anyone to work with his original music. It was also the first time for some years that Brian found himself back in the Top 75! 10 tracks. All Saints Records. 1995.Composed as a soundtrack for a Derek Jarman film, this is in large part a return to the placid atmospheric style of Brian Eno's Another Green World period. Jah Wobble's role is limited to providing a bass rumble, though he cranks up the tempo deliciously on "Unusual Balance" and the tracks featuring ex-Can drummer Jaki Liebeziet.
