Free Music Notes for A Day Without Rain

Free Music Review: When you must 5 Stars

Quite simply, I could listen to this album for the rest of my life. I'd always enjoyed Enya's music, but this alum is quite different from her previous work (those who say it sounds exactly the same are just desperate for something to complain about) The grand scale of Orinoco Flow and Book of Day has been all but abandoned for a lighter, softer approach; Enya is in chirpiest of moods on Flora's Secret, Wild Child and Silver Inches. The deep brooding of Bodicea has also disappeared.

The closest Enya comes to darkness on A Day without Rain is the haunting Tempus Vernum, meant to symbolize winter. The title track is perhaps Enya's most beautiful, well constructed instrumental peice ever. Enya and lyricist Roma Ryan have a unique songwriting immagination, that other artists would just deem stupid or un-hip. The most beautiful lyrics are found in Only Time, One by One, and Flora's Secret; "Summer snowflake/For a season/When the sky above is blue" So simple, yet profound and inspired.

But the real jewel in A Day Without Rain comes at the very end. Lazy Days is perhaps her best track ever, and she was wise enough to keep it to the end of the album. Too many artists today shove all their best tracks to the beginning of an album, and leave the second half with scraps. Enya leaves the best till last.

Free Music Review: Absolutely Magnificent!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I first began listening to Enya about two years ago, during a particularly trying time in my life. It would not be an exaggeration to say that Enya has helped me grieve through her haunting voice. I have not been disappointed yet with anything I have heard from her. I look forward to much more enjoyment in the future.

This release, in addition to "The Celts" is one of the most haunting I have ever heard. Tracks four and five of this particular CD stir the soul to heights and depths of emotion, with each hearing, in some different way. Couple that with some of the most beautiful piano ballads ever made, in my opinion, and you have a timeless classic. Just as she is--a timeless classic beauty.

In listening to her music I have cried, I have felt peace of soul, and been taken to other times and places through its melodies.

She and her ballads have won a permanent place on my CD shelf. I will never grow tired of them.

In an era where much of music is "more of the same, different day", Enya stands out as a giant. Nothing in her music says boring, bland or otherwise off-putting. As I said before, in my opinion, it is simply timeless, ghostly, and dare I say..perfect?

It's as close to perfect as music may ever come.

Free Music Review: Enya - One of the best female composers of her time!
Hit: 5 Stars

After reading many of the reviews I began to wonder, exactly what were Enya fans expecting? Many felt that she was coming back with the same old formula as in her prior albums. Others were expecting Enya to reinvent herself with a new music style.

The only thing that I expected was for one of the most talented composers, writes, vocalist of our time to produce another quality album filled with tightly arranged passages of music and after listening to "A Day Without Rain" I was not disappointed.

The one differece that I did notice was that "A Day Without Rain" was actually more of an upbeat album then Enya's past offerings.

Songs like FLORA'S SECRET, WILD CHILD and LAZY DAYS all possess this upbeat mood and feel to the music with FLORA'S SECRET possibly being one of Enya's best songs ever, I can only say listen and enjoy.

As a whole the entire album is very enjoyable to listen too with no noticable drop off in the quality of music from song to song and it will not disappoint any long time Enya fans who realize that, when it comes to her style of music she has set the standard even though others may have been here first in this music genre.

There is no need to fix what is not broken and as long as Enya keeps doing what she is doing then I will be here to listen as will others.

Free Music Review: Enya has done it again, but...
Hit: 5 Stars

I have to say I am a bit disappointed with the overall length of the CD. It is just over 30 minutes long and I would have hoped that Enya could add a few more songs on it. After all, 5 years is a long time to make a CD and if you are going to take that long, at least make the songs long enough to appreciate their beauty. "Tempus Vernum" is only 2 minutes long and I have to say, by the time I really got into the song, it was over. Enya should take some tips from Loreena McKennitt, whose songs rarely dips below 4 minutes and is constantly over 6 minutes long. In that time she succeeds in drawing you right into the song and creates a perfect mood for each song with the ample time for intros and exits for each song. But, I have to agree that this may be one of Enya's most accomplished works. I thought for a while that we will never hear from her again. There was a rumour floating about some time ago that she stopped making music all together. I am very glad that was not true. Enya MUST keep on producing these beautiful albums to enchant people like me for many years to come. I have to say that I am an avid Enya fan and I have each album she has ever produced ( I have bought her albums for my friends as well) Thank you Enya, may God bless you for sharing your gifts with us.

Free Music Review: Great music for pianists; great music overall
Hit: 5 Stars

Enya is fantastic! I became a big fan after hearing "Anywhere Is" on the radio in early 1996, although I was very aware of her through "Orinoco Flow" and the hugely successful, Shepherd Moons. My favorite music is heavy metal, but I bought the sheet music to the Shepherd Moons album for piano, and it revived my love for playing the piano. I have since bought A Day Without Rain sheet music (after waiting a year for the sheet music to come out) and I'll be playing the hugely popular "Only Time" at our graduation in May. As for the album, it is Enya's most uplifting album to date, in my opinion. Great for a rainy day, incidentally. 1995's Memory of Trees was gorgeous but dark (in a good way), and was my favorite until Day W/O Rain came out. My favorite tracks are, of course, "Only Time" (great to hear Enya on the radio again), "Wild Child", "Flora's Secret", "Fallen Embers", and "One By One". Many have griped about the 35 minute length...well, get over it, the music is awesome! Yes, another song or two would have been great, but the music flows together perfectly. Way to go Enya! And great job on the LOTR Soundtrack!
