Free Music Notes for And Winter CameFree Music Review: Ethereal, as always! Hit: 5 Stars
First, I must confess I'm a groupie. If it were possible to wear out a CD, I would have had to replace In Memory of Trees a dozen times before I finally converted to my iPod.
IMHO Enya continues her winning ways. I wove this album into my very eclectic holiday playlist last Christmas, and every time one of her songs came on I got comments from anyone else listening. There is such a peace and joy that lies just underneath the surface of her work, and when that blended w/ the general joy of the season, it felt like magic.
O Come O Come Emmanuel is by far my favorite piece on this album. Only four songs on the album are truly "christmas" songs, so I've included the rest in my year-round playlist. I have over four hours of Enya, and when I want to feel mellow, that's the playlist I put on.
If you love Enya, here is more of her. And I'm grateful that this album is a more robust 44 mins, versus her last (A Day Without Rain) which came in at a meager 30-some minutes.
Free Music Review: This Xmas albums goes back to the old Enya in a good way Hit: 5 Stars
Being of the Jewish faith, I was a little hesitant to buy this album, knowing it was suppose to be an Christmas inspired album. However, also being an avid Enya fan, I decided to buy this album and listen to it with an open mind. And I am so glad I did. Not only did this album not sound like a commercialized Christmas album, it reminded me of the music Enya had done on her first four or five albums. Even though there are some references to Christmas, they are few and far between. No Enya fan will be disappointed in this album. The melodies are very well layered, very lush and simply heavenly to listen to. As one of the previous posters said, only one song caught me by surprise and that was "My, My Time Flies!", but it surprised me in a very good way. I love every song on this album, but my favorites are "Trains and Winter Rains", "Dreams are more Precisous", "Last Time by Moonlight", "One Toy Soldier" and of course "My, My, Time Flies!". Overall, this is a great album for any time of the year.
Free Music Review: Enya's At It Again! Hit: 5 Stars
I absolutely love this album! And I don't see how anyone can see any "commercialism" in it.. She writes her own songs, comes up with her own melodies, etc. I guess there always has to be those few people who like to complain all the time though. *shrug* Now to the CD...I especially love the songs, "White Is In The Winter Night", "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel", and "Trains And Winter Rains". Don't get me wrong, these aren't the ONLY songs I like, they are just the ones I find completely original. I have read some reviews where people were complaining about the album's "Winter" theme. Um, hello, the name of the CD is, "And Winter Came"...What more did you expect? I find her voice to be haunting in almost ALL the tracks. You can't listen to one song on the CD and not not expect to get cold chills.
Who knows though, maybe I'm crazy and I'm willing to accept anything Enya puts out.
Guess you'll just have to buy it and find out on your own. ;)
Free Music Review: And Winter Came Hit: 5 Stars
First of all, I am not a fan of Christmas CDs. They just don't really get me that much. Would rather be singing Christmas carols than hearing them. That said, this is actually the only holiday CD that is original enough that I'll listen to it! There is a good variety of songs, from classics to new ones. Enya has a gorgeous voice that really makes the songs come alive. And the instruments suit the songs very well. Lyrics are great, though on some of them they don't really make much sense. One of my favorite songs on this album is, "My, My, Time Flies". 70's beat, very catchy. Though I don't understand the meaning of the lyrics. An apple falls in his hand? A one-way ticket to Mars? Ah well, still pretty. Another one is "Trains and Winter Rains". The beat really feels like a train tugging along. Soft, melodious.
Not all of these songs are Christmas, but it's a nice album. I definitely recommend it. Essential for people who like Celtic/holiday.
Free Music Review: WONDERFUL CD: LET ENYA BE ENYA Hit: 5 Stars
Come on people, get over it! This is Enya, not Madonna, who keeps reinventing herself and experimenting with new sounds. Why look and produce radically different music when you risk losing the very fan base that has made you such a beloved international music artist? The track "AND WINTER CAME" may be a "MIDNIGHT BLUE" rehash, but a nice-sounding one. "WHITE IS IN THE WINTER NIGHT" cannot be a more upbeat tune. The same can be said about "MY! MY! TIME FLIES," with a surprising electric guitar solo uncharacteristic of Enya, still welcome. You see, she appears to be experimenting, but don't expect to throw an entire CD with a totally different feel and appeal to it. Why expect a "Shepherd Moons 2" or "The Memory of Trees 2" off of every album? Chill: pour a cup of tea (I don't drink coffee...hehe!), sit back, relax, and let Enya's beautiful voice take you through yet another journey of enchanting tunes.
