Free Music Notes for Abba-EsqueFree Music Review: erasure perfection Hit: 5 Stars
One of their best EP's to date. Love it. But then again, I have every erasure CD out there so this is all coming from a true fan. But, I think if you are into erasure and their dance music, you will love this.
Free Music Review: Two Favorites In One Package! Hit: 5 Stars
Modernizes and Erasurizes your favorite Abba disco songs, if only there were more songs on this album.
Free Music Review: A Nice Sample of High Energy Erasure Hit: 4 Stars
It was said somewhere (I can't remember where) that this album should have made Ace of Base redundant. Now I like Ace of Base, but this album does upstage them a little. Of the four tracks, S.O.S. sounds the most like the Swedish quartet and is probably the weakest song on the disc. The single, 'Take a Chance on Me', however, is better but is really only the third best. Lay All Your Love on Me is probably the best, fitting in seamlessly among Erasure's own hits. Voulez Vouz is my personal favourite though. It's just a great high energy piece that doesn't let up until the end. If you're in the mood for a quick blast of high energy music, pop these four songs in your player. I only wish they'd included more ABBA songs on this album (they've done some more ABBA tracks as B-sides that they should have tacked on to this CD).
Free Music Review: Best Abba Covers Hit: 4 Stars
Cover versions are tricky things--especially with iconic songs. Erasure pulls this off with flair. This EP spent 5 weeks at #1 in England in 1992, and spurred a revival in interest in ABBA that led to the release of ABBA Gold later that year.
The best of the lot here is "Lay All Your Love On Me" with its fab acapella opening. "Take A Chance On Me" was the primary track that received airplay in the US, and it is a good version, though the rap section by MC Kinky has not aged so well. "SOS" is good, and "Voulez-Vous" is made into a techno tour-de-force.
Free Music Review: Another fine mini-album from the synth masters Hit: 4 Stars
I enjoy Erasure's mini-albums and this one didn't let me down either. It marks their musical transition between "Wild" and "Chorus" and offers a happy marriage of the differing styles. Buy it - you'll enjoy it! And just so you can refer this against your personal Erasure tastes, I judged this album against "The Innocents" and "Wild", which I believe to be their best albums.
