Free Music Notes for Hits: The Very Best of Erasure

Free Music Review: A good place to start...
Hit: 4 Stars

Sigh. I have been an Erasure fan since the beginning, and their music has accompanied me through every phase of my life from adolescence to adulthood. So I am bound to recommend this CD, but also have complaints. The release of this CD is a marketing move, aimed at offering the public a single-disc collection at an affordable price. The album represents their entire body of work, with an emphasis on the most commercially successful songs. This is the album to buy if you own nothing by Erasure. In its favor, the songs sound very good, with the earlier cuts remastered and in much better shape than they first appeared on the American versions of Erasure albums released by Sire. The bonus disc suffers from some rough transitions, but presents many of the songs in their remixed form, which has always been an integral part of the Erasure experience. Notable is the inclusion of "You Surround Me" on the bonus disc, one of Erasure's best ballads. What was really called for was a two-disc career retrospective, including some of the excellent b-sides Erasure has done over the years. Fortunately, most of Erasure's back catalog is still available, including their great mid-period albums "Chorus" and "I Say, I Say, I Say," both made when Erasure was at their artistic and (in England, at least) commercial peak. Buy them too.

Free Music Review: Thanks For The Memories...
Hit: 4 Stars

As a long time fan who discovered Erasure in the early 80's, I was one of those people who sought every version, both domestic and import, of each Erasure single and remix. While I readily admit that this "Best Of" is missing some of the best (you would need several CD's to cover them all) and revisits too much of the Pop 20 CD - it is always a good day to hear the boys back in circulation. The DVD companion to "Best Of" is by far the most exciting release! Needless to say my VHS tape of the videos from Pop 20 has long since worn out...and now I have a DVD that gives everything back to me and more! Every video, every moment. The CD Mega-Mix included with the "Best Of" CD is well done and allows the listener to enjoy all of the songs wrapped together. Check out the bonus feature interviews in the DVD...Vince notes that he is eager to start writing again - so hopefully we will all be able to enjoy a new CD with ALL NEW Erasure material! Support the boys and remember that Erasure is pop in its purest form. Enjoy!

Free Music Review: It's alright!
Hit: 4 Stars

So a lot of people are like, this is not as good as the other compilation, etc... Oh well! I thought it was good and I play it quite often. I hadn't heard Erasure for well over a decade when I saw this on the counter of the big record demon conglomerate shop, someone left it there with the intent to buy it and so I stole it and payed for it quickly. When I got home I was a bit disappointed to see that Who needs Love Like That was not included, but who cares? I got a great mega mix which took me back to the days when I DJayed. And since the last song I heard from these guys was Always, I thought it great to hear the new stuff. And as for the Oh L'Amour mix, thought it was good too. So go out, spend money and enjoy. Stop worrying about how good or bad this is. It's pure pop, mindless and silly yet completely enjoyable!

Free Music Review: More Hits!
Hit: 4 Stars

I love Erasure, one of my favorite groups. But no 5 stars here because I could not believe some of the omissions on this album. Only one song from I Say I Say I Say, Cowboy, & Other People's Songs. Where is "Don't Say Your Love is Killing Me"?
I think they should have went all the way and truly included their "hits" on this album. I would have gladly paid the price to have all the songs. The DVD is excellent however....all the songs in video form, plus extras. I was hoping with this album that I would not have to carry around 10 erasure CD's in my car and it would all be on one. That is not the case though. They need to re-release "Hits" with a special 3 disc set (all the songs plus that remix) and let all of us fans have all the songs we truly love and adore by this great group!

Free Music Review: The production team need sacking!
Hit: 4 Stars

Erasure are undoubtedly fabulous, Clarke is a musical wizard and Depeche Mode have never been up to form since the day he left them, Bell has one of the most distinctive, powerful and beautiful voices of the last 20 years; there is not a song they have released that is easily forgettable.
Somehow those facts are almost obscurred by the downright butchering hash made of this retrospective, it could have and should have been a lot better in it's choices and selections, instead it almost carbon copies the earlier retrospective of 1992 and in the addittions made provides just 6 tracks of their work from 1992 to 2003; just six!
It's a worthy album because the band are so damn good but the production team was taking the p*ss and should be sacked for selling out the band and their fans, shame on you!
