Free Music Notes for Nightbird AlbumFree Music Review: Good songs, but the mastering butchered a great album. Hit: 1 Stars
While I love the songs and they stay in my head, the louder parts and crescendos of the CD get very harsh and gritty sounding. There is a great deal of compression/limiting on this CD, which ruins it for me. I set the volume control at a comfortable listening level, but end up turning it down because it doesn't sound very good. This CD is at least 3 dB too loud.I don't wonder why there isn't a mastering credit on this CD. Whoever mastered this CD did a very good job minimizing the damage they did, but I'm sure they were forced to "make it loud" instead of making it sound good. I wouldn't put my name on a CD that sounds like this. I am extremely dissapointed with the sound quality of this CD. I was going to buy the singles, but since I can't really enjoy listening to the songs, what's the point? I'd love to be able to take this CD back to the store and get my money back. Don't get me wrong, I've collected all of Erasure's CDs and singles. They are the only band I've done this for. I've been to every concert of theirs I could get to. I'm just tired of having to accept crappy sounding CDs. I'd pay extra for an "audiophile" version that isn't sonically compromised. Dissapointed Again, Chris Hudec
