Free Music Notes for My Secret LifeFree Music Review: Eric Burdon Reborn Hit: 5 Stars
Without a doubt, this is Eric Burdon's best album since Sun Secrets. His voice remains resonant and strong, and his backup musicians are truly talented. Most of the songs are blues, which has always been his favorite, but one cut almost sounds like an Irish folk song, and my favorite, Over the Border, is a rocker. My only concern is that the overall tone of the album is melancholy, with many references to death. I certainly hope that doesn't indicate that Eric is depressed, in the way that Del Shannon was just before he committed suicide. Burdon has been my favorite singer since 1964, and I would like him to continue putting out great albums like this for many years to come.
Free Music Review: Exceptional In Every Respect Hit: 5 Stars
It is a sad commentary on the state of radio programming in the United States that I had to stumble upon this jewel by accident! Mr. Burdon's voice remains strong, but it is only one element that makes this an extroadinary CD. The music is diverse with rock, soul, blues and jazz influences. From start to finish the compositions are distinct without a "clunker" in the bunch. The song writing, musicianship, arrangements, background vocals and sound quality are at the highest level. This is one of the best CDs I have purchased in the last five years. Any mature music fan would be rewarded by investing in this collection. Thank you Mr. Burdon for such an enjoyable treasure.
Free Music Review: Best Collection from the Invasion Generation in Years Hit: 5 Stars
Eric Burdon is a spectacularly gifted vocalist. That has never been clearer than on "My Secret Life." Each of the 13 tracks is an argument that Burden belongs in the top three or four vocalists of the rock era. The standouts here are the more reflective cuts - "Once Upon a Time" is a particularly memorable and addictive remembrance of bygone days, calling on the ghosts of Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding and Sam Cooke. The scope of this work -- from soul to jazz to blues to rock -- is a perfect vehicle for Burdon's vocal versatility. He has also kept his more adventuorous side, which has led to momements of brilliance as well as distaster, fully in check.
Free Music Review: RHR gives 10 out of 10 Hit: 5 Stars
Play this CD 3 times and you are forever addicted to it. It is a combo of rock, blues and a jazz sound. It is the best CD I have heard in 5 to 10 years. I bought the CD because it said it was the first new recordings in 20 years. Before this CD all I wanted to hear were the old hits but now all I want to hear are the new songs and I want more of them. He might not be able to hit the notes from his early days and that may be why he doesn't sing some of his old hits "straight up" but this may also be why he has improved in other ares. His voice is so powerful, hard driving and unique that you just have to hear more.
Free Music Review: Excellent Comeback Hit: 5 Stars
THis album has steadily gotten 5 star reviews since it came out for a reason. It is a terrific rock album by one of the best rockers ever. Erics' singing is as great as it ever was. He writes great human interest stories in his songs, and the band is fantastic. I have the old Eric Burden albums. Great stuff, but always had some duds on em. This album is super all the way thru. If you like Eric at all, this is a must buy, as it is definately one of the best albums he ever made. You get hard rockers, ballads, and some blues& boogie. Great variation and a well thought out comeback. His songwriting is better than ever.
