Free Music Notes for Eric Clapton's Rainbow Concert

Free Music Review: Thank God for Technology
Hit: 4 Stars

When this album originally appeared it contained only six songs and the sound was exciting as chalk on a sidewalk. But now, thanks to the modern techno, the original song list has been fleshed out and the sound is quite subperb. These additions and enhancements have made this album rank with the guess Who`s Live at the Paramount as one of the magnificent little gems that seems to have been overlooked by the majority of music fans. A recording of E.C.`s first concert in over two years gives the listener the feel of a group of friends on a one off get together. The music is a little ragged in spots but that is one of the charms. The on-stage banter is fun, but the power is all Eric. He seems as if he had never left the stage, plus a live version of Layla, what more could you ask for. A definite little nugget you`ll enjoy.

Free Music Review: Better than could be expected
Hit: 4 Stars

Due to the people accompanying him, and because of Pete Townsends' nice gesture, this album is often overrated. It's not silly in the way that Oar of Madcap laughs are, but obviously Clapton was not in best shape.

It's an emotional affair mostly and a curious artefact of the days that Clapton seemed lost. Also, it's actually better than his mellow studio albums of the 70's (with a reggae song on them).

In conclusion: great live blues album by interesting band but not the best.

Free Music Review: A pinnacle of British rock
Hit: 4 Stars

This CD documents a 1973 show that Pete Townshend organized to get Clapton out of his post-Derek two-year heroin rut. The band is Clapton, Townshend, Ron Wood, Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, Rick Greche and Jimmy Karstein.

After this show, Clapton got his act together, recorded "461 Ocean Boulevard" and has been on the ascent ever since.

As a document of brilliant British blues rock it has few peers, and the live sound gives a great sense of what it must have been like to be in the Rainbow that night.

Free Music Review: Getting There
Hit: 3 Stars

Eric returns but not in full swing...the songs are ok, but Clapton is visibly nervous and his solos justify it. 1974-1978 were the REAL goldmine years....THAT'S WHEN HE WAS IN FULL FLIGHT.

Free Music Review: Awesome
Hit: 5 Stars

Clapton & Co. kick off the album with an excellent "Layla" which gets your blood pumping, and the rest of the CD never lets up. Highlights include a great version of the Cream hit "Badge", several great Derek and the Dominos songs, and several classics from Eric's first solo album. My only complaint is the absence of "Keep On Growing", one of my favorite Dominos songs. But this concert is still excellent. Clapton, Townshend and the band totally rock the house.
