Free Music Notes for Me & Mr JohnsonFree Music Review: Mr. Clapton Playing Mr. Johnson Hit: 5 Stars
Rather than write a whole big review on how great a player Mr. Clapton is etc I'm going to make this as brief as possible. We all know Mr. Clapton is one of the greatest all around guitar players ever to touch a fret board. This is a given. We all know that he and many other early '60 & '70 guitar players honed their craft on copying the early Delta blues men. This CD is Mr. Clapton interpreting some of Mr. Johnson's songs. Nothing more and nothing less.I was reluctant to buy it after reading a couple of the reviews. Not sure what passion is lacking in Mr.Clapton's playing on this CD. What I hear is Mr. Clapton playing Mr. Johnson and doing a damn great job. Glad I bought the CD.If I gets damaged I will repurchase it.If I want to hear Mr. Johnson play Mr. Johnson I'll pop in his CD that I have. For now I'm listening to Eric.
Free Music Review: HIS GREATEST ALBUM BESIDES FROM THE CRADLE AND UNPLUGGED Hit: 5 Stars
I'm a very accomplished blues/rock guitarist and I know the blues very well. Most of the songs on this album are songs which are usually not covered by other artists such as Last fair deal gone down or Hellhound on my Trail. I feel this is a terrific album and I think everyone should agree with me. However, there are some things about this album that I can understand why some people don't like it for instance its lack of creativity (every song is done almost exactly the way Johnson did them), Clapton's poor slide playing, and his piercing vocals on Hellhound on my trail. But besides all that, Clapton did a very good job and I feel this is going to make people realise that there was a man named Robert Johnson! (Note: I believe Robert Johnson was the starting of urban-style blues and probably the heir to rock itself)
Free Music Review: Well, it IS Eric..... Hit: 5 Stars
I know that this is not exactly Muddy Waters, B.B. King, or Howlin' Wolf, but it is Eric Clapton. Eric is a Brit and not even from the Delta. I would have liked to have heard the voice from the gut like he and the Dominos did on Layla. As far as the music is concerned, what do you mean this isn't bluesy? The only reason anyone is saying that is because he's playing the peices a bit faster than they were back when Robert Johnson wrote them. This is a very exciting cd, and all the musicicns that Eric picked are very, very good. NOTE TO POSSIBlE BUYER- This is an excellent cd but not a good introduction to Clapton. Don't do what I did. I started with Unplugged, which is very different from Eric's other bands/music [so is Me and Mr. Johnson. I would reccommend getting Cream albums or Layla. Happy listening!
Free Music Review: GREAT EFFORT Hit: 5 Stars
Let's face it. Eric Clapton had the guts to do what many other blues artists wanted to do, but were too afraid to do. Did anyone think of the possibility that he did this in part to get the name Robert Johnson out there among more young fans. I knew him well before this release and had a cd of his, but unfortunately many grown ups don't know who he is and by doing this project, Mr. Clapton was perhaps hoping more people would take a listen to the true KING of the Delta Blues. The album's highlights are Come on in my kitchen, Last Fair Deal Gone Down, and Hell Hound on My Tail. Clapton's use of both electric and acoustic dobro, are extremely potent for the song he used each on. Clapton did this as a tribute not to try and better Robert Johnson's versions but some morons can't figure that out!!
Free Music Review: To the roots with honesty Hit: 5 Stars
I really do not share the opinion of those who think that Clapton is a tomb looter or that he is a kind of leecher of Robert Johnson work. Eric Clapton always was performing works of Robert Johnson and I think he honestly loves this music. After all the years he's been in the world of blues and R&B he writes a kind of tribute to his roots and when listening to these terrific blues he is showing in the raw before our eyes, showing what he really feels. He is as famous and privileged as to make an album of what he really wants to play. What's wrong in that? I've had a really good time listening to his interpretation of Mr Johnson. His arragements are perfect and are the way Mr Johnson would have enjoyed if he had had the chance. By the way, the harmonica is terrific, a good choice too.
