Free Music Review: Heartfelt and Powerful, Clapton at His Roots
Hit: 5 Stars

"Me and Mr. Johnson" shows Eric Clapton going back to his roots, to his inspiration, the bluesman Robert Johnson. On this album, Clapton covers 14 of his hero's legendary songs like "Me and the Devil Blues," "If I Had Possession Over Judgement Day," "Milkcow's Calf Blues," "Traveling Riverside Blues," and my personal favorite, "They're Red Hot".

This album is about pure, heartfelt blues. It's Clapton's labor of love to the man who inspired him to such great heights throughout his entire career. Clapton pulls off the sound excellently, with down-home piano-playing and his own personal excellent guitar work that's made him known as one of Rock & Rolls greatest guitarist. Any Clapton fan will not be disappointed. This his best work in years. Well done, Mr. Clapton.

Free Music Review: Essential Clapton and essential blues
Hit: 5 Stars

Blues purtists will always have their opinions (or why be one?), but as someone new to the blues, this CD is a revelation. It inspired me to buy the Robert Johnson CD set. I played Johnson's performance next to each Clapton version and was struck by how true Clapton is to the spirit of Johnson's performaces. Me and Mr Johnson is one of the finest artistic achievements of Eric Clapton's extraordinary career. While his guitar virtuosity is as always present in every song, it is his superb vocals that resonate long after the music ends. This must be added to the essential recordings of Eric Clapton. I now understand why so many artists say they play the blues when they just want to feel good. This is a joyous performance that celebrates Johnson's genius and just makes me feel good!

Free Music Review: Where god came from...
Hit: 5 Stars

In the beginning, there was Robert Johnson. And he was great. He wrote some of the tastiest blues songs ever put down on tape.

In the sixties, Eric Clapton rose to guitar divinity with John Mayall and a band named 'Cream. He became one of the most respected in a long line of guitar hero's.

Me and Mr. Johnson is Clapton's homage to his mentor. It is a reworking of the primitive original delta sound of Robert Johnson into the smoother interpretations of ERic Clapton. But the result is, in my opinion, the best Eric Clapton album since From The Cradle.

This album will grow on you. Listen to it at least five times before you make up your mind.

It is, in its own way, a masterpiece. Traveling Riverside Blues and Milkcow Blues are especially delightful.

Free Music Review: I'll never tire of it
Hit: 5 Stars

Hey!

So I work in an HMV in the blues/jazz/easy listening/country/folk section and I just have one thing to say about this cd. WOW. I mean, it is all over the store (meaning it's in the rock/pop section, on the chart wall, and in my section. I hear it everytime I work and it is one of my favourite cds to listen to. Usually, you tune out the music because you just don't care about it after working for a few hours. Everytime a song from this album plays, my attention is grabbed and I sing along. From the enthusiasm that the employees show for this music, we are moving it off our shelves and into the hands of happy customers. I love this cd (in particular, I love the song "Come on in my kitchen") and I reccommend it to all.

Free Music Review: Love it.
Hit: 5 Stars

One of my favorite Clapton albums. Couldn't stand to hear "Wonderful Tonight" one more time but love the way he plays the blues. While purist Robert Johnson fans may object to anyone, anywhere reinterpreting the master, Clapton knows what he is doing. He just does it his way. Can't blame an artist for that and fortunately for us fans, we love him for it. This album is a different, more polished version than the DVD. I like them both for what they are. I try to listen to every version recorded of "C'mon in My Kitchen" and this album contains my second favorite version. Unfortunately Bonnie Raitt has never recorded her version. My only wish is that Clapton would record more albums like this one.
