Free Music Notes for BloomFree Music Review: A realization _ The spirit flies Hit: 5 Stars
Now, I'm coming from a different space....Major surgery Monday, back home Thursday, and I found Bloom waiting for me. In bed resting with headphones on....judgement: this was the perfect time for me to receive Bloom. I can't imagine another release by another artist that would have fit so perfectly. Bloom; transformation; release from pain; connection; openness. Thank you, Eric Johnson.
OK, that's not the musical stuff. Headphones were the best way for the first encounter. This ain't no flatland, these are 3 dimensional musical structures. This music integrates, has as essential framework, structure in space. I hear walls being built and cages of tone that hold an incredible menagerie of musical fireflies within.
But hey, that's just me - I just got off a morphine drip two days ago!
Tones: Set the controls for the heart of the Sun. Bloom: a complete realization of a vision. Thank you, Eric Johnson.
Free Music Review: Eric Johnson Returns...... Hit: 5 Stars
I saw Eric Johnson when I was in high school circa 1990 in Atlanta and this was during the "Ah Via Musicom" era. Anyway, to make a long story short he was AMAZING! That's when I became a fan when I saw him.
I really like this album and I hate it when someone says "It's not like 'Ah Via Musicom' or 'Venus Isle." It's not supposed to sound like, because these are all entirely different albums. The bad reviews of this album make me wonder if these people are Eric Johnson fans in the first place. Everything Eric's put out is gold. He's never done anything bad. He's always been tasteful with his songs and his playing.
Every song on here is great and it's a shame that someone would want to dismiss this album based entirely on what they've heard him do on past albums.
It's 2005 people...he's 51 years old! He's changed alot since then. Wake up and give this album a chance!
Free Music Review: Precise, Charged Up, and Awesome Sounding, Hit: 5 Stars
"Bloom" is a diverse, fantastic collection of sounds and melodies that will surely please any Eric Johnson fan and those who are new to his music. The album begins with the rockier stuff and progresses to more subtle songs towards the second half of the CD. Johnson is a master of every lick, phrase, and riff. Not a single note or beat is wasted. Yet, his music still retains a "live" feel. This type of musical precision makes for an eminently satisfying sonic experience. Johnson has been playing and recording for a while, but he is still getting better with time. Overall, "Bloom" is inspiring and sounds marvelous.

Free Music Review: Another great, and well worth the wait! Hit: 5 Stars
Being a huge EJ fan, I was really not that impressed with the last "filler" release Souvenir, and knew the studio cd was in production so I couldn't wait to get my hands on it.
Needless to say, this CD is excellent, from start to finish. Really has a nice touch to it. And I think it's great how Eric is going in a new direction for his music. While Cliffs of Dover may have made him famous, that was 1990. He has delved into many different musical styles since then and matured as a player in my opinion. I think it's actually nice to hear a different side of EJ, other than the typical riff guitar that everyone seems to expect from him. He really shines on all of these songs, vocally and musically. Buy this CD.. you will not be disappointed.
Free Music Review: Eric Johnson Delivers Hit: 5 Stars
Bloom is definitely one of Eric Johnson's strongest efforts. Almost every song on the album is a winner. The couple that aren't are still really enjoyable.
What I love about EJ is that first he is always very diverse with his songs. They have a wide range of feel and texture that very few musicians have.
Secondly his guitar playing is amazing. His guitar's tone is perfect for each song. Be it the signature EJ sound in Columbia, the definite twang in Tribute to Jerry Reed, the Eastern feel in Cruise the Nile or the stirring chimes in Your Sweet Eyes. And he is able to make the guitar pieces important, yet never overbearing.
This is definitely an album that gets maximum play on my iPod...
