Vocal trance, as a genre, is unreliable at best. At it's lowest, you have horrible vocals over predictable and overused synth riffs. But when it is done right, you have something like "Dark Side of the Moon". The original/radio versions are fast-paced and feature captivating vocals, with an insistent pounding drum beat. "When the sun is cold and black, when you want to scream and shout, and the record plays the Dark Side of the Moon". The Disco Brothers keep the energy up, giving us a track that is more trance than vocal trance by altering the sound of the vocals. Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso transform it into electro-trance but I have to say that I am less than enthused about this mix. Dogzilla gives us the most riveting mix of this song though, making it darker, dirtier, more insistent, and epic. Perfect.

Dark Side of the Moon sets out it intentions clearly from the beginning with deep, sinister chords and superbly effective percussion. From there it lays in with hell bound bass riffs to get the dance floor moving. Although this dance floor killer has a strong instrumental base it's all about the elaborate, emotive vocal. The soulful, intelligent lyrics are nothing short of sensational and the vocalist's delivery will send shivers to your spine. It even manages to deftly name-check its Pink Floyd namesake, and in the key chorus line too. Pure Class!
