Let's get one thing straight: I'm NOT a Latin music fan. I like one Marc Anthony song and one Ricky Martin song in MODERATION. So, when my husband and I went to Ixtapa, Mexico on vacation, I had no choice but to listen to what the restaurants played. One song kept coming up on rotation at one restaurant and it really captured my attention. It had a sweeping majesty to it that reminded me of classic Phil Collins and Elton John. I asked the waiter to write down the name of the artist and song. The artist was Eros Ramazzotti and the song was "Nuestra Vida." I tracked down the CD the minute I got back to the U.S. and bought it. It's playing right now and has been on a daily basis ever since we returned. I am a convert. This guy is awesome and I can't understand why he doesn't have a broader reach of fame in the U.S. like other Latin artists. The album Calma Apparente is refreshing. The melodies are interesting to listen to, infectious, addictive to the ear and just plain good. There's a fusion of pop with salsa and even some jazzy undertones. I loved Eros' sound so much that I bought his "9" CD and "Live" CD and I love them all equally. For all of you reading this who have known about Eros for years, this review probably sounds like applause after the fact but for those out there who have NEVER heard of Eros, I encourage you to plunk down the cash and get this album and the others I mentioned. You, too, will be hooked.
