Free Music Notes for BaduizmFree Music Review: Original. Marvelous. Distinguished. Hit: 5 StarsErykah Badu's debut album is loaded with old school jazz and modern r&b that's as tighly woven as her famous mile-high headdress. "Badizum" is a classy, towering release; for me, it conjures up images of a Saturday evening at your local jazz club or a cool, sun-drenched Sunday morning. It gives off a calming, peaceful vibe, and it's a near-masterpiece that can't be likened to anything else. Badu's voice, often compared to the grittiness of Billie Holliday, is elegantly restrained; yet, it is its modesty that makes it all the more powerful. There's the jazzed-up swing of the hit "On and On," the soulful swagger of "Four Leaf Clover," and the bangin' "Rimshot." Badu's voice is effortlessly smooth as she croons her way through these slightly hip-hop-flavored slices of r&b. I was first introduced to the music of Badu at a beach party a few years back. The single was "On and On," whose hook made me take a mental note to run and grab her disc. I'm glad I did. And so will you.
Free Music Review: Excellent Hit: 5 StarsA bit late on the reviews for this album having owned it for nigh on five years. Does it deliver? It was certainly new and refreshing back in '97 and it is still great listening today. One of the best albums of recent years and it just left you wanting more which she has delivered on Mamma's Gun her last release.I could go on and review every track but I think everyone else has done a great job here and suffice to say I can't add any more superlatives. Essential listening and if you get the chance to see her live then take it.
Free Music Review: Music to meditate to.... Hit: 5 StarsI remember back in 97' when "On and On" and "Tyrone" were burning up the charts, and I got this album immediately. 5 years later and I still give "Baduizm" many spins. Erykah Badu and D'Angelo started the revival of the soul movement, that continues to florish today. "Baduizm" goes on my list as one of my all-time favorites. The woman is a gifted singer with an incredibly distinctive voice. Few artists can successfully "act out a song when singing live on stage. And even fewer, like Erykah, can act out a song while in the confines of a studio. She's Ella, Etta, and Billie Holliday reborn. As a songwriter she loves to show off her playful and funny side in many of her songs. Just listen to her Afro (Freestyle Skit) and the jazzy "Certainly", the song about a suitor trying to slip his love interest "a mickey". She never leaves her spiritual beliefs behind when she gets all beatnik in songs like "On and On" and "Rimshot", and the romantic quasi-reincarnation ballad "Next Lifetime". And for all you hippie and yuppie types who love hanging out at your favorite upscale coffee house (admit it, you do), I suggest this is the kind of mood music you should relax to next time you go. For me, my relaxation track is "Certainly"....perhaps one of the most brilliant songs I've ever heard, it's an incredibly hypnotic song. The only downside of this album is that is doesn't contain the hilarious single "Tyrone". But you can get it on her "Erykah Badu Live" album which was released shortly after, and it's worth the penny when you hear the woman sing live and interact with her audience.
Free Music Review: Badu Hit: 5 StarsI Don't exactly own this album. I have just listened to it few times at my sisters place. It is good. If you wan't to buy a real r&b soul album. This is the album for you.buy it you won't regret it.
