Free Music Review: Another Great One From Erykah
Hit: 4 Stars

Another great album by Erykah Badu. Don't expect every song to be like Honey and you wont be disappointed.

Free Music Review: What'll be on Part 2?
Hit: 3 Stars

I love Erykah's music and I love her free spirit. The liner notes for "New Amerykah" for instance, are handwritten and I read them all -- which is rare.
I guess I was trying to figure out what she was trying to say beyond the music. The album is about 10 songs long. I love "Me" and about two other songs featuring Bilal, who, to me, is one of the greatest and most underrated soul singers of our time.
I'm not sure that I totally understand this album. I don't like most of the songs. I do like the concept, though, and I'm eagerly looking forward to the second part of this album.

Free Music Review: Maybe it's ahead of its time ? Tryin' to be positive...
Hit: 3 Stars

I've always admired the fact that Erykah Badu had been a trailblazer creatively. She did it on Baduizm, again on Mama's Gun, and even broke some new ground Worldwide Underground, but this one is a little over my head. I think its great that she's experimenting with new sounds and song structures but I buy music to be inspired, enlightened and entertained. I got a little of the first two but not much of the third. "Telephone" is gorgeous, deep, moody and evocative. "Me" is introspective and shows a glimpse of her former pre-Worldwide Underground self (though the ending ruins a totally good vibe). "Honey" is a good little ditty, but, this time, its the intro she butchers. Even "Amerykahn Promise", with its early 70s blaxploitation theme is cool, new and inventive in a retrospective futurefunk type of way. The rest, I hope will grow on me. I adore Erykah Badu and will continue to be a fan of hers, and hey, as long as she's happy with the album, who the hell am I to judge? But, if this keeps up, I'll just have to be a fan of hers personally and not musically. I wish I'd bought my favorite songs individually instead of wasting thirteen bucks on the whole cd. My cousin told me I wouldn't like it. So much for not listening to kinfolks!!!

Free Music Review: Erykah Badu does it again!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

New Amerykah......I just what the game needs......something different. All the Hogwash that's flooding the airwaves has been driving me insane. I'm glad Erykah stays true to herself and keeps putting out dope musik.
