Free Music Notes for EsperanzaFree Music Review: Get this CD! But be warned... Hit: 5 Stars
... you might become addicted. I keep listening to this over and over and over... then I play it again. Everything is so "right" - the vocals, the melodies, the tight bass lines, the feel, I could go on. Oh yeah, her whole band sounds like an all-star cast. It's like audio honey. I had seen this artist in various music magazines as a promising new jazz talent, but wasn't prepared to be blown away like I was after I got this CD and actually heard her stuff. It's much more than a "jazz" album, it's kind of in a class by itself. There is an incredible variety on here, and it's all great. I hear interesting new things every time I listen.
Free Music Review: Outstanding! Hit: 5 Stars
I first learned of Esperanza Spalding on Tavis Smiley a while back. And I'm so glad I did! It's refreshing to see (and, more importantly, hear) a young musician of such high caliber.
This CD is excellent. It incorporates a variety of styles and influences -- I definitely hear some Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays in a couple of the pieces, among others -- but it doesn't copy. Spalding's compositions and the combination of her sweet voice and mean bass playing are original, and a complete joy. I highly recommend "Esperanza." I could listen to it over and over and over again. And I do!
Free Music Review: Esperanza Guifted Jazz bassist Hit: 5 Stars
Last month I saw Esperanza on the Letterman Show. That very next day I searched and purchased. The video interview offered through Amazon sealed the deal. I already planned to buy, but when the personallity in the conservation blossomed, I could not hardly wait to hear her skills. A very accomplished bassist at a young age, and an amazing voice that encourages inner smiles. I've shared with co-workers, however refuse to burn. I firmly believe an artist deserves to earn a living. My children think I'm old fashion, to that I answer, would you NOT like to be paid for your work. John
Free Music Review: Jazz For The New Generation Hit: 5 Stars
I love this cd! I'm not much of a jazz listener but I do appreciate good music and when I saw Esperanza perform at the White House honor of Stevie Wonder I was hooked. I was aprehensive at first but reading the other reviews helped encourage me to buy this cd. I am officially hooked on this cd it has a nice tempo and a nice mixture of classic and contemporary jazz. By the end of the cd I feel as if I've been on a world journey as Esperanza pulls inspiration from many cultures. This is a nice cd for any jazz lover and all of the other newbies like myself.
Free Music Review: Quite the talented one! Hit: 5 Stars
I caught Ms. Spalding on the David Letterman show about a month ago. I'd never heard of her, but when I saw her decked out with her afro holding this huge bass all while still looking feminine and dainty, I thought to myself, "This is going to be interesting." And interesting it was indeed. So much so that I actually bought this CD immediately after watching that performance. A month later, her CD is still in my CD player and each time I listen to it, it grows on me even more than the time prior. This young lady is definitely worth listening to!
