If you're a jazz head (or not) and you're looking for the next wave of classic recordings and talent in that idiom, get this record and rejoice. Esperanza Spalding's voice is awesome, her playing is solid, the songs are intriguing and her accompaniment is very capable. It's part world jazz, part straight ahead, part pop jazz, pop youthful exuberant jazz, part masterpiece. This album stayed on repeat for weeks and still gets played when I'm looking to be inspired by new music. Trust.Free Music Review: The next great jazz musician

I had never heard of 'Esperanza Spalding', until she received a grammy last year. Being curious, I bought this CD, not really expecting anything special. But, I have to give credit to this young lady. I enjoyed this CD, right from the first cut. She has a real sense of style for jazz. The different levels of sophistication, can only be done by someone who understands, and knows jazz as an art. A clear bright beacon in the jazz music scene, or any music scene for that matter. Esperanza Spalding in a rare package of creativity, fine vocals, skilled musician and unbelievable composer. She is even better live!!!! Run, walk, drive, fly to the nearest city that she is playing to hear this phenomenon in person. I listen to this incessantly and love vocals like "I Know You Know" and "She Got to You" but also pure instrumentals. Having never heard of Esperanza Spalding prior to the Grammy Award Broadcast on February 13, 2011, I was curious. Once I visited her website, I decided she was certainly worth a listen. This CD, released earlier than her current "Chamber Music Society" CD, shows a very talented and very young jazz bassist and singer. Cool, accessible, upbeat jazz performed by a cool, accessible, and upbeat artist. I am now looking forward to listening to "Chamber Music Society."Free Music Review: A breath of fresh air...

This CD is a promise. There is so much enthusiasm and sheer joy of playing in all the songs on the album that one cannot help but wait for the future releases by Esperanza Spalding. This beautiful artist definitely has a bright one coming. After thousands of albums in this genre that look so similar, finally there is something new to enjoy. Truly a pleasure to listen. And Esperanza's voice is something difficult to forget. Just but the CD, you won't regret it.
