I would like to say, that it is so refreshing to hear a brilliant ray of light in this dark cave of music today, with so called Hip-hop, sex filled R&B, and gospelless gospel. This young lady is the complete package.She brings both excitement and fun to the music. I love the intricate bass lines and rhythms, as well as the jazzy vocals as she plays the swinging lines on bass. This is a must for any jazz collection.

Esperanza by Esperanza Spalding is an amazing CD. If "esperanza" is the Spanish word for hope, then bassist, vocalist, and composer Esperanza Spalding could not have been given a more fitting name at birth. She is an irresistible performer. Her bass playing and vocals are phenomenal! I enjoy every track on this CD. She is what's going on in jazz today. I would highly recommend purchasing this CD.

Your CD is truly a breathe of Fresh Air.....I heard your song precious home on my Direct TV Jazz Channel and then in Joffery's Coffee Shop. Your voice is a beautiful instrument that compliments your musicianship and craft truly unique and a great inspiration to jazz music. so I bought the CD and I was jsut amazed and blown away at such great music....WOW!!!!

I can't stop playing this album. Her voice, lyrics, musicality, vibrance and just sheer love of music come through fully in this tour de force! She never leaves her jazz roots while exploring fusion, Brazilian and straight ahead. But it is all so accessible yet complex. We don't get music like this often.
EASILY my choice for New Artist and Album of the Year...Maybe five years...More!!!!!!

This album has been my favorite buy in 2008. Besides the fact that she is very young, she gives insight for what "Good" music is now and will be in the world of jazz. She gives new breath to the jazz industry, and she is the best solo basist around second to Marcus Miller.
The album took me in a direction that I did not expect, deserviing "absolute bliss" in my eyes and ears.
