There is much to like about this long-forgotten Eurythmics classic. The standout, however, is Lennox's hauntingly majestic "Julia." There could be no finer vocal moment than this masterpiece. No other song of theirs so perfectly matches her beautiful alto tones.
"When the leaves turn from green to brown and autumn shades come tumbling down. To leave a carpet on the ground where we have laid." Much of the soundtrack seems to go in another direction from Orwell's pen, but this song so perfectly captures the melancholy mood of his literary brilliance. "Sexcrime" and "Doubleplus Good" are great, but the magic of this album always comes back to "Julia." It's too bad modern Eurythmics compilations seems to ignore the great tracks on 1984. Oh well...
