Free Music Review: The measure of a star. Hit: 5 StarsWith astounding ranges in styles and vocals, Eva's is a tragic life whose gift of music continues to give long after she has gone. Anyone who appreciates music must buy this album. One can only imagine if she continued to sing today. Her voice evokes such emotions the likes of which haven't been seen since Ella and the better years of Whitney. While her notes are crisp and clean and her tonal quality warm and enveloping, the texture of her voice amazingly can go from throaty jazz, chirpy pop, to soulful rasp.
Others have written effusively about her emotional quality, but technically she is so sound and irrefutable, I believe the songs really don't do her talent the justice it deserves. Track 13, Oh Had I a Golden Thread. The true measure of a star. Her arrangement takes her into a high G!! Yes, that's right. That note you hear is a high G (four notes above a high C). And she controls it and ebbs back with such authority and strength that it gives me goosebumps long after I've turned off the stereo. Professional singers, opera or pop or gospel or jazz or otherwise, can only aspire to be able to have such technical skill. Most would result in a throat busting belch, but Eva does it gracefully with not even a crack in the note.
If you fancy yourself a singer, you will have this CD in your oft-listened-to collection.
Free Music Review: Even if you don't like chick singers. Buy this. Hit: 5 StarsI never buy chick singer CDs. Sure... Billie, Bessie, Sara Vaughan, but only those standouts. Until I heard Eva Cassidy. She's every bit as good as any of them. Amazing vocal talent. The gospel tune on here golden thread wasn't recorded live at the Blues Alley, but it was one of her favorite songs. I heard it on a radio one day, went home and bought the album. One of last century's greatest losses.
Free Music Review: Please ignore the child below me. Hit: 5 StarsEva Cassidy is a incredible singer and this album showcases her vocal talents wonderfully. Her music stirs emotions in me that most other artists can only dream of. She remakes other people's music and makes it her own. What a beautiful album.
Free Music Review: Inspiring Hit: 5 StarsThis CD never fails to inspire me. I play it over and over again. For me, it has become a classic. Eva's voice is amazing, and her interpretation of the songs is unique and addictive.
Buy it. You'll love it.
