Free Music Notes for FallenFree Music Review: I want you to get in your head that Evanescence is awesome Hit: 5 Stars
I want you to shut the hell up whoever says evanescence sucks. I like them, and after reading this if you don't already you will.First of all, my idea of a band is any genre (excluding rap and hip-hop), with an actual melody. Not like Dido which is a whole bunch of drum beats layed together to be put into a song. Not Britney or Madonna, they are just weird. Dancing around a stage making an ass of themself to get attention and kissing disgustingly thinking they're so sexy is not a way to be good. Now with Evanescence, they are melody people. They put in effort to please people, so respect that! If you are saying that crap like 50 Cent is good and not Evanescence, you are just irregular. A lot of people say Evanescence is like Linkin Park with a chick in it. Yeah, I'm one of those people. I like Linkin Park a lot and they're #2 on my fav list, but they do kiss Evanescence's ass. Now with the songs.... they do kick ass, but nobody said they could improve at all. I'll use Tourniquet as an example. It has a great hollow melody, Amy's voice is awesome, but the lyrics are somewhat strange. Good enough though to earn a 8.5 out of 10. Some songs I have listed as higher than 10, even though 10 is the limit. Some songs I think are just so much of what I call music, the song would deserve at least a 10.5. Now this is what I think of the songs: Going Under: 10.5/10 (Like I said) Going Under should be a role model for every other band. It's dark and pretty, yet it's "I-I-I-I-'m dying again" that line was the most beautiful lyric, but it's a little bit screechy. It's very creative and has meaning. I think that it's about many options to take so there are too many thoughts about which one is true and about dishonest people. Bring Me To Life: 9.5/10 Gets old after awhile, but it is still a great song. It's about how people are living a normal life (as opposed to I've been sleeping a thousand years it seems)and they don't know what's really going on outside of all this, and how boring life is. Beautiful song. Everybody's fool: 9/10 This song is my sixth favorite, so its not exactly my cup of tea, but it's not the worst song. It's my favorite on the album to sing though because it is catchy. Not exactly beautiful, but interesting. My Immortal: 9/10 I don't exactly understand what the deal is with this song. Yes, it is the most popular and it is the best video as a solemn moment stretched for 4 minutes, it's a little too anthem-y. Too depressing. Haunted: 7/10 Least favorite. I really hate this song. It's annoying so I don't know why people like it. If I had a Halloween party this would be the first song I play because it's considered scary to me. Should be theme to Psycho if it weren't so old. Tourniquet: 8.5/10 Like I said before, it is a beautiful hollow song and Amy's voice is great and all, but the lyrics weird me out. Not my favorite, but it is a great song. Imaginary: 11/10 This is my second favorite song. Lyrics are mellow and calm, and I'm in my field of paper flowers! Just kidding. Beautiful song expressing imagination, strong words, and powerful competition for my favorite. Haven't won yet. Taking Over Me: 9.5/10 I like it, it is in my top 5, but it could use a little editing. Not much to say really. The song is very expressing but overwhelming. Good job. Hello: 7/10 I don't like this song either. It could really make me cry. It is by far the most depressing song on the album. It makes me think of the song in comparison to something like "Me Against The Music" because it is actually close, but in a depressing way. I would never really like to hear it again. My Last Breath: 7.5/10 It is not the best song. I only really like the intro. Too mushy for me. That's really all I have to say. Well, if Going Under, Bring Me To Life, Imaginary, and Taking Over me are in the top 5, and there's nothing better than Imaginary so far, then my favorite must be... Whisper: 12/10 This is my favorite on the album by far. It's tune is very catchy and the lyrics are beautiful. It has the most get-the-message-I'm-dying kind of thing. It is a little off with the ending though, but it competes the song. Great effort, and good for you Evanescence. I hope that you'll take my advice and read this thoroughly so you can understand how good Evanescence is. I advise you listen to the songs before you buy on Evanescence.com. Duh I recommend it.
Free Music Review: It's way past ONLY five stars! Hit: 5 Stars
The real reason I had bought Fallen was because people thought that Bring Me To Life was such a good song, so I went ahead and bought it. I can tell you I couldn't have been more wrong to think that only one song would satisfy me, every song does. Well, there is one song that doesn't- Tourniquet- I think that it is a very weak track. Some songs I have listened to I haven't liked at first, such as Hello, Haunted, and My Last Breath, but now I really think they're great songs. And it went the opposite with Tourniquet, because that was my original favorite (yeah, after I had listened to every song I had liked it the most, and now I like it the least!). The standouts on this album I think are Whisper, Taking Over Me, My Immortal, and My Last Breath. They are all very good songs. But there's one song that will ALWAYS be one of my favorites, and that is Whisper, because it has probably the most effort put into it. Going Under: 9/10 This song has a good beat to please people, but it really does have a small lack of effort. It used to be my favorite, but I listened and listened more to other songs on the C.D. It is a great opener though, and the reason I gave it a little less points than it deserves is because of the comparisons to other songs on the album. Bring Me To Life: 9/10 This is a great song, just a little overplayed. However, I'll still like it when it comes on VH1, I'm not at all tired, but again, in comparison to other songs, it is a little on the weak side. Everybody's Fool: 9/10 This song is just missing something... I keep wondering what, but I just can't find what it is. This song is different because it is the only song that has nothing to do with pain somebody's feeling, physically or in their heart. I think a little more effort would make this song perfect. My Immortal: 11/10 (I have done this with 3 other songs) This is an awesome song. It is so beautiful, and Amy Lee's voice makes you feel the pain (and this one, it's going through your heart). She has an amazing voice, and she's proved it with this song. Definitely listen to this song if you buy Fallen. You'll be impressed with this song band version or not. Haunted: 8.5/10 It's not the best song, but it's not the worst either. It really doesn't impress me much at all. This was my original least favorite, but now it's second. I still cannot figure out why people like this song so much. But I still like it a lot more than I used to. There is no real 'bad' song off of Fallen, except for Tourniquet. Tourniquet: 7/10 This is a very weak track. It's suicidal message doesn't impress me the way Whisper does. This is the worst song on the album, PERIOD, and I think that Soul Embraced had no talent with "My Tourniquet". Listening to this song, you can tell how much more talent Amy and Ben have than Rocky Gray does. Imaginary: 10/10 This isn't the best song, but so what? It deserves a 10/10. It is well-written though, and it shows no lack of effort. I don't have anything more to say about it than listen to it. Taking Over Me: 11/10 This is a beautiful rock-ballad. It is definitely the most unique, because it is a rock-ballad, not a hard rock song, and not a ballad, but a rock-ballad. Perfect for the next single, and in my top four favorites. It has many similarities with My Last Breath, the other rock-ballad on the album. Hello: 9/10 This is a My Immortal-like song, with only the fact that Amy wrote it and not Ben. It isn't as powerful as My Immortal either. This is the most depressing song on the c.d., but it doesn't touch me as much as My Last Breath for some reason. My Last Breath: 11/10 I used to not like this song at all, but now I realize this is a beautiful rock-ballad, and it really made me tear the time I heard it that made me really love this song. A very effortful suicidal ballad, this song has everything. Whisper: 11/10 This song is the only song that has always been one of my favorites, and it's not going to fall anytime soon. This is a great song, just listen to the Don't Turn Away/Don't Give Into the Pain chorus, and you'll already like this song. This song and Going Under have many similarities. The suicidal message is hidden in the song, but you can infer that it's there. Evanescence's Fallen is a great album. I recommend that you go out to a local music shop and buy this c.d. I guarantee that you will if not love it, at least like it.
Free Music Review: Unlike Anything Else Hit: 5 Stars
Evanescence's music is unlike any other rock music. They blend the crunch of numetal with violins, orchestras, choirs, electronic sounds, pianos, etc. It's just so awesome. Finally something new instead of the same old boring rock music. Well, here is a breakdown of there songs off of Fallen.
Going Under - Awesome opener. One of the darkest songs on the album with awesome guitar work and Amy really shows off her pipes here.
Bring Me To Life - Who doesn't know this song? Yeah, it was a bit overplayed when it first come out in 2003, but hey, it's because it's that good, yeah! I still love it. WAKE ME UP!!
Everybody's Fool - Great song with more awesome guitar work. Gives a good message about how so many people are fake and not really what they seem and you gotta see the music video for this song. It is really inspiring.
My Immortal - Probably one of the most beautiful songs you will ever hear. I can't picture no one else singing this but Amy. Will always be an Evanescence classic.
Haunted - Starts off with Amy kind of talking at first with errie and spooky sounds in the background, then the guitars just let loose, and at the end, hearing the choir in the background is just so awesome. Great guitar solo in here also.
Tourniquet - Yeah, this song might be strange to some, but I happen to like it. Of course, the guitar riffs are again awesome in this song, and this one song alone is probably what got so many people labeling Evanescence as a "Christian" band.
Imaginary - This happens to be the least favorite of mine. I don't know why. It just doesn't click with me. I do think the guitar work along with the violins is outstanding, but for some reason I just don't like it that much. Enough said.
Taking Over Me - Now this one is my favorite. The piano that opens the song is so beautiful. Then after, it goes suddenly with a hard crunch of the guitar with the strings and orchestra playing along. This song I think has the best melody, music, and chorus. I just love it. This is always on repeat in my cd player. I can't get enough of it. Amy's voice really shines on this one.
Hello - Beautiful, sad song. Similar to My Immortal, but I think this one is under rated. Yeah, my immortal is good, but this one is also very good if not better. The song doesn't get played at any Evanescence concerts due to the fact that it is a tribute to Amy's sister that passed away at a young age. I don't blame her for not wanting to sing it. If she tried, she would probably break down or something.
My Last Breath - Many consider this to be the "average" song of the record, but I think it's more than that. It's Evanescence, come on, it's not average. It first opens up with a synthesizer, then the guitar comes crashing in with beautiful soothing strings/violins coming in blending together to make some damn good music. The best part is when the dark part of the song starts when Amy starts singing, "Using your eyes to disappear, you pray your dreams will lead you there, etc." I love that part. It's just so gothic and dark. Awesome love song.
Whisper - And now, lastly, Evanescence finishes off there amazing debut album with this hardcore heaving moshing song. The way the guitar starts off this song is so freaking unbelieveable. It's so wicked. The only part I kinda don't like about this song is towards the end where the choir is saying somethign weird. Towards of loses me there, but o well. Another awesome song by Evanescence. Great way to finish off there solid album.
So overall, this album is truly amazing in every way. It deserves more than 5 stars. I would give it like a trillion stars. lol As I said, it is unlike any other kind of music out there right now. It is a breath of fresh air like many say. Instead of the same old "pop, r&b, rap, hip-hop, Britney and Christina songs, lol, we finally have something that isn't tiresome and boresome and that has been around and just common. I really think Evanescence is only gonna get better. We will see for sure when there new album comes out at the end of this year. Can't wait!
Free Music Review: All in all, a wonderful band. Hit: 5 Stars
The first time I heard Bring Me To Life on the radio, I loved them. I finally got the cd, and I'm glad I did. The lyrics are full of vivid imagery and emotion, and Amy Lee's voice is astounding, especially on the track "Hello" where she soars over the piano, to come down to a wavering note before fading out. 1. Going Under- this song starts out with Amy half growling, half moaning the lyrics. The song is hard hitting and angry, and matches her voice perfectly. 2. Bring Me To Life- I think they overdid it a bit with the Paul McCoy vocals, but he does add a nice touch to Amy's voice. I just wish they could have given him something better to do other than rap. 3. Everybody's Fool- A wonderful song, about how someone becomes disillusioned with a friend, and sees them for who they really are. 4. My Immortal- a touching song, Amy's voice is heart-breaking to listen to. It's also perhaps their earliest song, one they wrote when they were in high school. It's about how sometimes love just won't let go, no matter how much you want it to. 5. Haunted- I can never quite decide what it's about. It sounds like Amy is in a love/hate relationship of extreme proportions, or perhaps it is about an abusive relationship. Whatever it is about, it sounds rather strange. It starts out with the trickling of a guitar, before launching into all-out electric mode. It also ends rather abruptly. 6. Tourniquet- One of my most favorite songs on the album, this is a suicide anthem. It is here where the vivid imagery is used to dramatic effect. Phrases like "pouring crimson regret" and "I'm dying, praying, bleeding and screaming" are sung over crunching guitars. The climax comes when Amy shrieks "I want to die!" 7. Imaginary- another early song, this one is about how someone wants to escape from the real world, and creates their own. Not one of the best, but much better than Haunted. 8. Taking Over Me- another good song, this one masks happiness as obsession. In the first verse, Amy sings about how she thinks about someone all the time. "I lay awake and try so hard not to think of you/But who can decide what they dream?/And dream I do.." making you wonder if what happens in the rest of the song is real, or just is something she is imagining at night. The song also addresses how, when you become obsessed with a person, you begin to lose your identity, and how it can become rather scary. 9. Hello- another excellent song, this one is another which I can't decide the subject. At times, it seems to be about being afraid of living, other times it seems to be about the moment someone realizes they're insane, and can do nothing about it. Perhaps the two are related? An interesting idea... 10. My Last Breath- Again, we see the vivid imagery that Evanescence is so good at writing. "I'll miss the winter/A world of fragile things/Look for me in the white forest/Hiding in a hollow tree." This song is about someone's last moment on earth, and chronicles their last thoughts and realizations. Though the song shows no fear of death, at times you can hear despair in the lyrics. 11. Whisper- another excellent song, I often think of the play "Macbeth" when I hear it. This song is about terror, pain, and madness. Again, there is excellent imagery, and this time the song's dark overtones are punctuated by a choir chanting in Latin. I believe the Latin lyrics are "Save us from evil/Save us from danger" making you wonder if the chorus is talking to Amy, asking her to save them (part of the chorus goes "don't try to hide/though they're screaming your name"), or is talking about her being the evil and danger they want to be saved from. All in all, Evanescence is a wonderful group. The lyrics they write are poetry, and the emotions are layered such that you can never really decide what the songs are about, just like life. Though the style gets a bit worn towards the end, they are still great. I have heard that their earlier release, Origin, featured a more experimental side of the band. Unfortunately, Bigwig productions no longer has the rights to it. I have heard a few songs, and though they are dark like Fallen's songs, they are of a completely different style. I can't wait for the band's next release. Would I recommend them? Of course.
Free Music Review: A True Masterpiece Hit: 5 Stars
This is my favorite album ever. There is not one song I don't like. I've been listening to it for almost every day for about eight months, and STILL haven't grown tired of it!
Just one general note before the track breakdown: Listen to the lyrics on this album, folks. This isn't like any other band's lyrics, where the motto is "I loved her, she dumped me, I was depressed, yatta yatta yatta." No. The lyrics on Fallen are simply astounding, chilling, profound, haunting, intense, heartrending. Nine of the eleven songs on this album have made me cry. Go figure.
Going under - Amy Lee's favorite 'Fallen' song, Going Under is one of the three "Gothic Tracks" of the album, should you consider Evanescence a Gothic-inspired band. It is dark, angsty, richly-worded, very original, and overall, an enchanting opening to the album. 16/20
Bring Me to Life - The most famous Evanescence song. A breathtaking and portent-filled piano melody begins the song and is then mutated into what has won numerous awards, including Best Rock Song and Best Hard Rock song. Amy Lee's vocals are absolutely incredible and the lyrics will render you speechless. 20/20
Everybody's Fool - A dazzling guitar riff sets the tone for Everybody's Fool. Full of despair and determination, it is a perfect balance between the forces of good and evil. Perhaps the most powerful lyrics in the album are found in this song. Coupled with a sensational melody and administered by Amy Lee's passionate vocals, Everybody's Fool is more than a song. It's a tour de force. 17/20
My Immortal - Pure pain and anguish spilled into a musical melody, Grammy Nomination 'My Immortal' is Evanescence's most popular song after 'Bring Me to Life'. Exquisite vocals, agonizing lyrics, soothing piano, and a stunningly beautiful melody combine to yield tears on the toughest of hearts. 20/20
Haunted - The second of the three aforementioned "Gothic tracks". VERY dark and EXTREMELY disturbing. The choir addition at the end will only serve to haunt you further. Creepy and bone-chilling to the core, if the music in Haunted won't leave a strong impression on you, the lyrics will. Guaranteeed. 16/20
Tourniquet - A magnificent guitar opening is steered into forceful, painful vocals and a torture-filled melody. Uniquely dark. The strings at the end of Tourniquet serve to lead up to its larger counterpart, Imaginary. 16/20
Imaginary - Considered by Evanescence themselves to be one of the best songs of their five-year professional career, Imaginary is the epitome of classical music richly embellished with hard, dark rock, embroidered with a thread of pop, and laced with just a dash of metal. Add Amy Lee's spine-tingling voice to the mix and you've got yourself a celestial musical masterpiece. A true magnum opus. 20/20
Taking Over Me - as with Bring Me to Life and My Immortal, Taking Over Me opens with a heavenly piano solo which opens the gate to a striking guitar sequence. Amy Lee's dazzling, powerful vocals and lyrical talent are oh-so-exposed in this heartrending creation. There is an angelic vocal solo with soft piano accompaniment near the end. Overall, simply beautiful. 20/20
Hello - Written for the death of Amy Lee's sister. Gentle piano notes lead to ardent, passionate passages with a low cello solo near the end. Of course, Lee's voice only serves to enrich. Truly heartbreaking. 17/20
My Last Breath - Interestingly enough, this song opens up with an almost pop-like sonancy. Commencing with synthesizer, it is then transformed into a classical Evanescence production. Very powerful lyrics and compelling melody. My last breath is what many consider to be the "love song" of Fallen. 14/20
Whisper - This legendary song (Whisper and Imaginary are Evanescence's oldest masterpieces) speaks for itself. Orientally-themed, grippingly lyricized, and the third of the three aforementioned "Gothic tracks", Whisper is a mightily enchanting piece. The Latin at the end finishes off the album on a dark, angsty note. 16/20
All in all, musically, lyrically, and vocally this album is absolutely flawless. Buy it!
