Free Music Review: Whoa... I'm giving this album five stars... am I crazy? No!
Hit: 5 Stars

Yeah, call me a dumbass for giving this album five stars. Go ahead and hit the "No, this review was not helpful" button like the coward you are, safely behind your computer screen, anonymously. Go ahead and preach about how "Evanescence is not metal, go listen to Slayer," blah blah blah crap. Who the hell gave you such authority to say what's heavy metal and what's not? Fact: Joy Division and Nico are goth rock. And so are Evanescence. Can't accept the truth? Fine. Go round up your lil' weird head banging friends or siblings or parents and start b!tching to me. Just because you don't think so doesn't mean it's true. Your opinion doesn't matter. Mine doesn't either, but I'm not changing my mind. You can't force me, kids. Now why don't you go listen to Slipknot or Cradle of Filth while I type up a review that your little one-sided minds can't comprehend, mmkay? Other than that, shut the hell up.

Now... as for my reason of a five star rating? The holiest score of the holiest? Even holier than Jesus? A five star rating can mean two things to me.

One: the album marks some sort of musical impact and will be remembered for generations to come. An album full of artistic integrity. An album that spoke to a generation of folk. An album of social impact and high importance.

And two: I like all songs.

So how did Evanescence gain such a high rating from me? From explanation number one or two? I'd say the first one, but that'd be pushing it. Actually, Evanescence received five stars from me because I like all songs. Liking all songs = a five star album to these ears.

What more to add to what is already said? Amy Lee has such an incredible and beautiful voice that'll make Christina Aguilera panic. Her lyrics are truly inspirational and powerful. Every song, and I do mean every song, display such musical emotion. The goth rock sound (yep... I said "goth," whatchoo gonna do about it?) truly brings out the emotion of Amy's singing and lyrics. Give "Tourniquet" a few spins to see what I mean. Want melodic and beautiful sounding music? Give "My Immortal" a listen or two. Just listen to the blissful and soft piano play. Wanna hear the most overplayed song since "Smells Like Teen Spirit"? Give "Bring Me to Life" a few spins to piss off your friends, neighbors, and relatives for fun.

Although it's a damn good album, the strings kinda make it "overproduced." Oh well... the Beatles have overproduced albums as well but no one seems to care. And the strings here still sound good, making the tracks all the more powerful and anthemic sounding.

Hey, don't be so mad because I'm giving this album five stars and calling this band goth. Chances are, you probably like something like Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, Slipknot, and Dimmu Borgir, giving those bands a five star rating. Hey, some of their stuff are good... they're just not five star worthy. Fact is, I enjoyed this album as much as I enjoy other albums from other great bands. The songs here I enjoy whole-heartly. I liked every song here... this album gets five stars from me, and I'm sticking by it. You don't like it? Fine. Don't b!tch to me about it, though. You'll just waste your time.

Free Music Review: Evanescence rock!
Hit: 5 Stars

Evanescence is the most promising group that has appeared in the rock musical scene after a long period of silence...

The singer's voice is ethereal, haunting, loud and clear, spreading amazingly in full spectrum, strong and solid at low notes imperiously transcending to highs.

The guitar themes are always present and worked in such an original way that they don't focus on simply escorting the singer but they introduce a new melody which runs in parallel with the singer's tune and does not wait to crescent only at the songs' bridges as Linkin Park or Lacuna Coil often do. The result is a vigorous mix of powerful voice and guitar riffing which arouses the interest from the first hearing because it creates a double impact on the listener, especially in the songs Everybody's Fool, Tourniquet, My Last Breath.

The simultaneous use of distortional guitars, violins, electro-beeps and piano reveal the modern path rock has taken. The piano parts (which in reality are really simple to play) are the key to the outstanding result especially on Bring Me To Life, Going Under and Taking Over Me. The piano ballads My Immortal and Hello illustrate the band's ability of piano-ballad song writing, very rarely seen in the music industry these days in such a level.

The band approaches every song using the same pattern and the same technique in every instrument to relay to the audience their aspect. That's why all the songs seem to be repetitive. An experienced listener can easily distinguish the differences between the songs. After a while the sense of repetition evanesces.

The real diamond in the album is Haunted. It includes all the qualities mentioned above all in one packet. The guitar solo near the end of the song is at least breathtaking. The bass player is giving all he's got during this solo too. The goth chorus at the end really takes you off...

The lyrics on every song are surely well thought. Fast and simple, right to the point. You can easily understand the suffering of the writer and his cry for help.

One negative thing of this album is that the band turned 180 degrees away from the style they introduced on Origin album (highly recommended too), but maybe this has to do with the way the producer wanted them to sound. Maybe in their future album they will include some songs from Origin, like Lies, Even In Death and Anywhere.

Another nudge is that the singer cannot perform nearly the same as in the studio when singing live. Maybe it has to do with her age or her mood when singing. She is a good performer and many times you can feel that her voice has big potential but she looks like she cannot keep her singing steady during the whole time of her performance.

There are a lot of reviews insisting on Lacuna Coil being Evanescence predecessors. This could be true if Evanescence's music was hard rock or even heavy metal. But in reality their music is one step above. It is a new stand in the music stardom. Their music stucks in your head and is there to stay. In the future new bands will emerge with similar sound.

Do not be afraid to trust Evanescence. They are here to stay. Buy their albums. It is not too late...

Free Music Review: Im sold out
Hit: 5 Stars

That's right, if liking Evanescence makes me a sell-out, then so be it.
The reason I say this is because I am a dei-hard Metal-freak. I don't mean like nu-metal{such as Korn,Coal Chamber, Rammstein, etc}, I mean true blood red metal; namely Black metal{Ie: Dimmu Borgir, Dissection,Immortal,Marduk,Naglfar, etc} and Death Metal{ie: Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Vital Remains, Morbid Angel, etc.} Thrash Metal{ie:Megadeth,Testament,Overkill,Forbidden, etc.} as well as stuff like Ozzy,Alice, Iron Maiden, etc.
So other true fans of true metal will probbaly hate me for this; But I freaking love Evanescence!!!
It's funny, when they first came out w/"Fallen", I'd seen the vido for "bring me to life" on Muchmusic canada, and it was always on mute as I sat there listening to my brutal metal music and just watched the cool visuals of that video. I figured people were just making a dumb-as s hype about the band. Eventually I decided to actually listen to the video while I watched it, I fell in love w/it's epic quality, which is something the whole album has, even though the songs are short{not epic in length} they are epic in quality, and the album as a whole is.
It's impoosible to pick a fave track. The whole album just cuts right to my soul and touches me in ways no other album in history has. And Amys haunting and etherial vocals are just absolutely breathtaking! Not to mention that she has this gothic beauty to her that is irresistable, and I love the fact that she refuses to be sexualized, that's one strong woman. She and he voice are like a sirensong, just pulls you in no matter how you try to resist.
And the music, it is well-crafted. I find it interesting though that Rocky Gray, the drummer was the fomer guitar player for Christian metal bands "Living Sacrifice" and "Soul Embraced"; I'm shocked that he was willing to break away from that fundy mentality and play w/a secular band, allthough the song "Tourniquet" was written by him, to my knowledge for "Soul Embraced" originally, which would explain it's subtle christian message{unfortunately; in the sense that this has caused the band alot of crap w/the religious right and the rest of the world, having been labelled a christian band by some for awhile; but then I suppose the decision to play christian festivals did'nt help either; or maybe it did, I don't know. It's also unfortunate that such a great album contains pro-christian/pro-faith content; however I gotta say that song really helped me express my anger at the biblegod while I deconverted from the christian faith, it helped me work through some emotyions, so perhaps-it is good after all}.
I also love the choir thing at the end, singing in what is it-latin?
Bens guitar work is good too, I have'nt yet heard his replacment since he left the band, I assume he is also good.
All I can say it that this album is EPIC,TOUCHING, and after all my years as a die hard fan of the most brutal heavy metal out there, on my list of top five to ten albums of all time period, "Fallen" makes it on to the list. If you don't yet have it-GET IT!!!

Free Music Review: One of the best CD's I ever bought!
Hit: 5 Stars

I only bought this CD so I could hear My Immortal. I didn't think I would like any of the other songs because I'm not a hard rock/goth kind of girl.

I was totally wrong.

Evanescence has introduced me to a genre of music that I will forever love. I like this CD so much that I don't think I've listened to another one of my many albums since buying this.

Here are the songs in the order I like them from best to worst(I like all of them, but some more than others!!)

My Immortal(Remix): This version of the song doesn't come on every CD. But I am so thankful it came on mine! Even after hearing this song at least twice a day on the radio I am still not sick of it because it is one of my favorite songs EVER!

My Immortal: This version is very pretty, still not as good as the remix though. I do think the strings add a very nice touch to the small musical interlude in the middle.

Hello: Alot of people think this song is depressing and dark. It is very emotional, it was written by Amy for her sister. I think it is a very lovely song. This song proves just how impressive Amy's voice can get.

Taking Over Me- Alot of people don't like this song, but I do. I think it's a very nice song about love. The piano at the beggining misled me a little- I thought it was going to be a slow song, but it turned out to be faster.

Whisper- This song IS a bit overdone, but it is still a perfect song. The only part I don't like is the choir at the end. It's very weird- they speak some latin, and if you go to a lyrics site you can get what they're saying.

Haunted- Some people don't like this song, either, but I think it's very creative. The beggining is a little weird, but the rest is cool. I especially like the guiatar. Impressive!

Everybody's Fool- This song totally rocks! And it speaks the truth. There are some people out there who just lie. I can't wait to see the video- still yet to view! It looks awesome though!

Going Under- This song is pretty hard. I think it's a good single and if you don't like it at first you should get used to it- I had to give it time before I started liking it.

Tourniquet- Everyone really likes this song but it just isn't my favorite. It is a good song- yes- but it's just not the best on here. I like the verses alot, but it kind of drags on a little.

Imaginary- This is an interesting song about ones imagination. The lyrics are very cool. The tune- well- that's the reason it's placed so low on my list.

Bring Me To Life- This is my least favorite single, even though I like it alot. I guess it's just worn out. They play it every day on the radio (I don't see why I dislike it more than My Immortal though, since I said the same thing about that- I guess My Immortal bears beauty).

My Last Breath- Oh well. At least I tried.

Don't say this band is overrated or average until you've heard for yourself. The only problem I have with the band is that the album focuses mainly on pain and death and that's kind of bad. There are only 2 slow songs on the whole album and that made me kind of mad too. But still great nevertheless.

Other bands I reccomend: No Doubt, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan

Free Music Review: Evanescence 5 Stars

I can't say how much I love this album. I went to their concert this summer and that was awesome, too!

Going Under is a dark, really kind of angry song.

Bring Me to Life is really kind of innocent compared to songs like Going Under and Imaginary.

Everybody's Fool... Hmmm... This one took me a while to figure out. At first I thought it was about this person who fell in love and then got betrayed, blah blah blah... But then I saw the video and it really added a whole new layer of meaning to the song. It's really about this girl who everyone thinks is a georgous, glamorous suermodel/movie star, but underneath the Hollywood makeup is just another regular young girl, pretending, lying, and decieving. The song is about how she realizes that she'll never be a perfect supermodel/movie star and how she's become everybody's fool, and her fantasy can;t save her.

My Immortal is my favorite song ever. Instead of like in pop artists like Hilary Duff's songs when they break up or get mad at eah other and the make up, the guy simply DIES.

Haunted is the only song I really don't like on the album.

Tourniquet is a song about God and suicide. Very strange, but still good.

Imaginary is one of my favorite songs, and is one of the two where you can really hear the gothic style come through. It is about how she escapes to her perfect fantasy world because her real world is so terrible, but she can't decide which one she wants more: the real chaotic world with her love, or her perfect imaginary world by herself.

Taking Over Me is about how this one girl will give up anything to be with her one true love, and expresses the feeling of true, powerful love.

Hello is not the most exciting song ever, but still okay.

My Last Breath is another one of my favorites. I think you can imagine what it's about.

Whisper is the other song where you can really hear the gothic rock. It has some latin at the end which I'm not sure what it means, but this is still a good song.

Over all, an awesome album. Amy Lee's music is very honest and true, telling about how reality really is, no matter how painful it might be. So if you like songs where everything always turns out perfect, go buy Hilary Duff's album. Almost all pop singers' music is very happy-go-lucky. Nothing bad ever happens. If it does, it always works out in the end, or she's screaming about how mad she is at him, not crying over her DEAD loved one. Their music is a fantasy, a distraction from the real world. Well, if you want real music, that tells it how it really is, get Fallen. It really makes you think about everything. It's honest, and they write about what they feel, not what record producers think will sell. I think they probably most definitely want to be sucessful, but would rather fail with music they thought was real than be sucessful with music they didn't believe in. And that's what makes her songs so great: there's meaning and depth behind them. They're about things that really matter to them, and what they know will touch their listeners.
