Free Music Review: No Sophomore Slump Here....
Hit: 5 Stars

Well folks, the day has finally arrived! Evanescence's long awaited second major label album has finally arrived, and boy, was it worth the wait! There sophomore album surpasses there debut Fallen in every possible way. The Open Door is just that, a door of opportunities and possibilites that was opened up to the band when chief songwriter/lead guitarist Ben Moody left abruptly on tour in late 2003. Ben was the one behind the major commerical and pop aspect of Fallen. But now, on The Open Door, Amy Lee and fellow bandmember Terry Balsamo have taken full force of the songwriting and theme of the new album, and yes, its all the more epic, complex, creative, and experimental music you could ever ask for from them.

The album opens with the hard driving rocker, "Sweet Sacrifice," where Amy Lee declares fear is only in our minds and she's not putting up with any more crap. This is sure to be a great concert favorite and will make a great opener at there shows due to it being one of the heaviest songs on the album. The first single, "Call Me When You're Sober," is full of Amy's soaring vocals and hard hitting guitar that we have come to expect from them and should please any fan. Other standout tracks include, "Weight Of The World," with its eastern motifs and hard hitting chugging guitars making it probably the heaviest song on the album. "Lithium," an awesome power ballad blended beautifully with piano, strings, guitar. "Cloud Nine," a spooky, hard driving rocker bringing back memories of Fallen's, "Haunted." Without a doubt, the most creative and experimental song off the album. Track 7, "Lacyrmosa" shows that Evanescence is now even leaning more into classical and epic territory, and this is the most epic song on the album as you would have guessed. An awesome cover of a wonderful Mozart musical piece. The album ends with the piano ballad, "Good Enough." This really was an excellent and smart choice to end it like this, on a happy and positive side, even if it is unusual from Evanescence.

All in all, I highly recommend The Open Door to all Evanescence fans and to any lover of great rock music. You will not be disappointed!!! Evanescence has defintley proved there staying power and I only expect them to go higher and higher with there third album and in other future releases. BUY IT NOW!!!
