Free Music Review: Best Album of 2006
Hit: 5 Stars

Evanescence has once again recaptured it's ethereal beauty with another masterpiece The Open Door. They still have the ethereal sound, it's different if you can't hear it then you must be deaf. Definetly one of the best if not the Best album of the year. The Open Door is less commercial, more experimental and the lyrics are more of an empowerement than singing to pain and sorrow.

SWEET SACRIFICE: the album's opener captures the same way as Going Under did to it's audience though the lyrics are more of an overcoming your fear. The guitar in here is also diverse
CALL ME WHEN YOU'RE SOBER: it seems as that it's the only song that fits in the album still it's an amazing track. The blending of the theartrical strings and intricate guitar works along with Amy's soulful vocal and piano is definitely the hightlight of the song.
WEIGHT OF THE WORLD: the song opens up with an arabesque type of song that really is enchanting. The guitar solo accompanied by the chanting is just WOW.
LITHIUM: only one word can describe this piece, Perfect. The Lithium certainly beat My Immortal. It's one powerful power ballad.
CLOUD NINE: almost danceable which is great. The chanting at the beginning, middle and end gave this song an eerie sound.
SNOW WHITE QUEEN: about her stalker, it has a reminescent of Even In Death tone during the verse but it created it self with it's own niche to call it self one of Evanescence most powerful song.
LACRYMOSA: A perfect rendition of Mozart's Lacrimosa. The heavy guitar work, the choir, Amy's voice and the amazing guitar solo are just mesmerizing.
LIKE YOU: a song dedicated to her sister just like Hello, beautiful and dark, mournful yet hopeful.
LOSE CONTROL: starst off with a playful piano soon becoming Evanescence most bizarre song. Though it's still an amazing track.
THE ONLY ONE: it's perfect for a Lost Soundtrack, it's about closemindedness. Amazing track
Your Star: starts off with a piano then it soons build up to become an epic masterpiece.
ALL THAT I'M LIVING FOR: a song dedicated to the band itself, a power ballad that makes you want to headbang during the chorus and relax at the verse though it gets heavier at the end.
GOOD ENOUGH: with the intro to the "Narnia Song", the track sends you into a reverie. A very hopeful song sang in an almost melancholy melody, landing it self as one of Evanescence best ballad.
The ethereal beauty is still present in this album and surely The Open Door is an EPIC MASTERPIECE

IF YOU THINK THAT EVANESCENCE LOST THEIR SOUL APPARENTLY YOU MUST BE DEAD THE ALBUM IS MORE "SOULFUL" THAN THE LAST WITH EMOTIONS RANGING FROM JOY, SORROW AND ANGER.

Free Music Review: Awesome
Hit: 5 Stars

Evanescence's 'The Open Door' isn't as bad as some say. I personally found it to be an exceptional work that belongs with their other compositions. However, it did take a few listenings to really enjoy it.
Here are the tracks and what I thought:

1. Sweet Sacrifice- Nice, upbeat song that really gets the album started and leaves the listener pumped for the rest of the album. 10/10

2. Call Me When You're Sober- 1st single of the album, kind of pop but still good nonetheless. 9/10

3. Weight of the World- Nice song, about not being held back by past decisions. 9/10

4. Lithium- Slow, emotional song, probably the "My Immortal" of the album. Unbelievable lyrics and vocals. 10/10 (It is also supposed to be the 2nd single of the album)

5. Cloud Nine- Another song about not being held back. Still cool, though. 9/10

6. Snow White Queen- My personal favorite. The vocals give me shivers up my spine when I listen to it. 10/10

7. Lacrymosa- Cover of Mozart's "Lacrimosa." Cool mix of Evanescence and Mozart, along with meaningful lyrics. 10/10

8. Like You- The lyrics to this song are kind of like the theme of "Even In Death" on Evanescence's 1st album 'Origin.' ("I long to be like you, lie cold in the ground like you" and "You're not alone, I'll be right beside you forevermore") 9/10

9. Lose Control- Odd song that really sticks out in my mind. Cool lyrics that are wonderful and creative ("Mary had a lamb, his eyes as black as coals. If we play very quiet my lamb, Mary never has to know".) I don't know why, but I like that. 9/10

10. The Only One- Good song, basically saying you're not alone. Good lyrics and awesome vocals. 9/10

11. Your Star- This is one of those songs you have to read along with the lyrics to fully appreciate the beauty of it. 9/10

12. All That I'm Living For- I think it's cool how Amy's vocals sound in the chorus. Also has very good lyrics. 10/10

13. Good Enough- The intro to this song is supposed to be taken from the "Narnia Track" Amy did for the movie, but was rejected for being 'too epic.' The song itself is sad and happy at the same time. Don't know how, but Amy pulled this off. The lyrics are about how she's finally out of her sadness, yet doesn't know if she's good enough to be loved. 10/10

Overall, I'd give this album a 9.5/10 because I could tell all the lyrics were from the heart, the vocals were phenomenal, and the cover art was also great. I just hope the coming singles will have some b-sides so I can enjoy even more from them!

Free Music Review: Highly Recommend
Hit: 5 Stars

For those of you that are actually new to Evanescence, I would actually recommend buying "The Open Door" first and then "Fallen." Since the music has changed some one the new album, I would start there first. But unlike some, I wasn't disappointed when I heard the complete album. I expected to hear a change in Moody's absence. So I think "The Open Door" is actually refreshing.

I don't think anything on here is filler. Evanescence wrote 13 solid tracks. Do some songs stand out more than others? Sure. But on repeat listens you'll notice things about other songs that you hadn't before. Songs like "Sweet Sacrifice," "Weight of the World," "Lithium," "Like You," "The Only One," and "All That I'm Living For" got my attention the first time. The irony is the first single "Call Me When You're Sober" had to really grow on me. I really couldn't tell what the album was going be like from that particular song. The song that got me most curious about this project was "Lacrymosa." I heard a leaked version on YouTube like a month ore so before the official leak. The whole Mozart Requiem angle was pretty striking. So I thought to myself, "This should be interesting." And it has certainly lived up to the awe factor that "Lacrymosa" left me with. I'm actually surprised they led off with "Call Me When Your Sober." I think there are other songs better represent the overall direction on the album. It's more of a throwback to "Fallen." Although, it might be the most "radio friendly." It all depends on your definition. I guess it did the job. But if you didn't like the first single, I would still buy the record.

Songs like "Cloud Nine," "Snow White Queen," "Lose Control," and "Your Star" have a slightly different structure to them. Some of the more interesting parts of the song aren't revealed until later. It's not as obvious. There's not a rush to make a big impression. They reel you in by the way the layers unravel. Some of those songs get bigger as the time elapses. They build to climatic stages. You have to listen to the whole song to get the complete picture.

"Good Enough" the closing song, a piano ballad, is beautiful. You get to hear Amy's great voice in its most pure, clean, and honest form. It's a great way to close the album. In all, "The Open Door" is an accomplished follow-up to "Fallen." In the end, Layers of great depth and intricacy lend itself to a superior album. Highly recommend.

Free Music Review: No Sophomore Slump Here....
Hit: 5 Stars

Well folks, the day has finally arrived! Evanescence's long awaited second major label album has finally arrived, and boy, was it worth the wait! There sophomore album surpasses there debut Fallen in every possible way. The Open Door is just that, a door of opportunities and possibilites that was opened up to the band when chief songwriter/lead guitarist Ben Moody left abruptly on tour in late 2003. Ben was the one behind the major commerical and pop aspect of Fallen. But now, on The Open Door, Amy Lee and fellow bandmember Terry Balsamo have taken full force of the songwriting and theme of the new album, and yes, its all the more epic, complex, creative, and experimental music you could ever ask for from them.

The album opens with the hard driving rocker, "Sweet Sacrifice," where Amy Lee declares fear is only in our minds and she's not putting up with any more crap. This is sure to be a great concert favorite and will make a great opener at there shows due to it being one of the heaviest songs on the album. The first single, "Call Me When You're Sober," is full of Amy's soaring vocals and hard hitting guitar that we have come to expect from them and should please any fan. Other standout tracks include, "Weight Of The World," with its eastern motifs and hard hitting chugging guitars making it probably the heaviest song on the album. "Lithium," an awesome power ballad blended beautifully with piano, strings, guitar. "Cloud Nine," a spooky, hard driving rocker bringing back memories of Fallen's, "Haunted." Without a doubt, the most creative and experimental song off the album. Track 7, "Lacyrmosa" shows that Evanescence is now even leaning more into classical and epic territory, and this is the most epic song on the album as you would have guessed. An awesome cover of a wonderful Mozart musical piece. The album ends with the piano ballad, "Good Enough." This really was an excellent and smart choice to end it like this, on a happy and positive side, even if it is unusual from Evanescence.

All in all, I highly recommend The Open Door to all Evanescence fans and to any lover of great rock music. You will not be disappointed!!! Evanescence has defintley proved there staying power and I only expect them to go higher and higher with there third album and in other future releases. BUY IT NOW!!!

THE OPEN DOOR - ROCK ALBUM OF THE YEAR - 2006

Free Music Review: My review of "The Open Door"...
Hit: 5 Stars

After reading what some of the other people have written here, I tend to agree with most of them. I am a big Evanescence fan (I have Origin, Fallen, Not For Your Ears, Anywhere but Home, and a few of their EP's, as well as the piano, string, and electro tributes), so that may influence what I think.

First of all, any fan that was expecting Evanescence to release something like Fallen you will probably be a little disappointed. "The Open Door" is kind of a mix of "Fallen" and "Origin". It's darker than "Fallen", and I don't think that the lyrics are quite as good, but trying to duplicate the success of an album that sold 14 million copies is near impossible.

Now, "The Open Door" is my 2nd favorite album ("Fallen" is my 1st). My favorite songs are probably Like You, Sweet Sacrifice, The Only One, and Lacrymosa.

Someone stated earlier that Like You was about losing someone you knew and wanting to commit suicide to be with them. I disagree with some of that. I think it's about losing the person you love the most, and "feeling" like you can't go on without them. The lyrics could be interpreted as wanting to commit suicide, but I believe it's used as a metaphor for the pain that person is feeling.

The Only One, I believe, is about someone who is lost and doesn't know what to do with their lives, and asking someone, either someone in heaven to help guide you, or just another person who may care about you for help.

Lacrymosa, I believe, is about someone who just got out of a relationship or is about to break up with someone because that person thinks the person singing is holding them back. She states that all of their problems can be blamed on her.

Snow White Queen, again in my opinion, isn't necessarily about a woman. I believe it's more of a metaphor. Someone is saying that all they would want is to be with that person.

Overall, this is a great album. If you like any of Evanescence's music before "The Open Door", you will be pleasantly surprised. Again, it's a little darker than their previous stuff, but it's still amazing how they mix classical music with a gothic rock sound. The piano and guitar solos on this album are better than "Fallen" imo, but the lyrics are not quite as good.
