Free Music Notes for The Open DoorFree Music Review: Less Commercialized But With A Whole Lot More Depth Hit: 5 Stars
If like me, you expect another Fallen, most likely you'll be dissapointed with this album. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that the album is bad in itself. After all, musical taste is a subjective matter and so far most people here seem to have enjoyed The Open Door.
There isn't much of a drastic change, as we still have Amy's lovely voice soaring through the pounding guitar riffs. However, you can immediately notice the change in the guitar accompaniment and will possibly hear similarities with most of the songs. On the first listen, it seems that the cd drags along and doesn't have much to say. On the second, some of the melodies begin to catch on, others you may become indifferent to. On the third, you may find yourself singing along to some of the tracks. By the fourth listen, or possibly even the second you may already have a favorite track here and there. I suspect that my not reading along to the lyrics may have contributed to my dislike for the album at first. Therefore, I strongly suggest that when and if you do purchase the cd, that you read the lyrics as the song plays. Doing so, will add a whole lot more dimension to the music and meaning.
As with all albums, certain tracks stand out more than others. In the Open Door those tracks are Sweet Sacrifice, Lithium, Cloud Nine, Like You, Lose Control, The Only One, and Your Star. Some tracks contain a Fallen-esque quality too, such as Lithium, The Only One, and Your Star.
I definitely recommend this new work by Evanescence, just try not to expect another Fallen or you'll be sorely dissapointed. Where Fallen was very dark and brooding with catchy pop melodies, The Open Door delivers with more dimension and personality. As such, it takes longer to understand and become accustomed to.
Free Music Review: its not Fallen, but it's still great! Hit: 5 Stars
ill say this rite now...this is not like Fallen...except for Call Me When You're Sober, which is most like the songs u found on their previous album...other than that, all the songs have a different feel to them, and i think its great! variety is good, so stop dissing the album! its fine!
yea, we may miss ben moody and his style, but after u listen to the album a few times over, u begin to like some songs, and i think that this one actually shows off amys vocals more...she goes up way high in some songs, and u NEVER heard it in Fallen...like Sweet Sacrafice...or The Only One...its great! the only song where she went high on Fallen was Hello...and on here she goes even higher than that! excellent...
this has lots of piano in it, and if ur like me and love playing the music, u cant wait for the book to come out...its beautiful, esp the last song, Good Enough...i used to not like it, but after i heard it a couple times, i luved it b/c of the piano and its soft tone and mood...she kept the choir and strings (YESSSS!!!), and uses them in a handful of songs, making them that much better...
the songs on this album seem to have a more personal touch to them...Like You i believe is about her sister, b/c it talks about laying in the ground and living w/o someone, and in one part of the song, i think the word "sis" is used, and that would be a dead givaway...and im sure several others have meaning behind them, i just havent gotten around to interpreting them yet...but they dont just write crap to put on another album just to make some more money...like many ppl out there...
so get teh album, or borrow it if ur still not sure, and ull see for urself its worth the money u pay...if u dont think so, well, i tried...cya!
Free Music Review: Way better than "Fallen" Hit: 5 Stars
"The Open Door" is hard to digest at first given that half of the creative team that made Fallen a great album are long gone. In my personal opinion, it was for the better. At first listen, it became apparent that Amy was held back by Ben Moody. While Fallen was more catchy and mainstream, The Open Door is more experimental, heavier and better musically. The songs are more epic and contain a ton of gothic overtones that makes this a album that could be playing at Halloween this year. Songs like "Snow White Queen", "Lacrymosa", "Cloud Nine" are creepy and eerie sounding in a good way. "Like You" is about the passing of Amy's sister written in a child's perspective. The lyrics, melody and of course, her voice makes this the most haunting and best track she ever recorded. The album kicks off with the heavy "Sweet Sacrifice" which has a very catchy melody but overall it could've been a bit longer than just 3 minutes. "Call Me When You're Sober", the first single, is up next. Even though that song doesn't fit well with the rest of the songs, its still a great showcase of Amy's powerful voice. "Lithium" is said to be the next single and I'm positive it will be a big hit. The choir and strings appear once more in "Your Star" followed by the final rocking track "All That I'm Living For". Then comes the standout track, the beautiful ballad "Good Enough", which is the first time in the hour that a upbeat "happy" song appears. A great way to end this album after all the painful but empowering journey that Amy has been through. I suggest people who did not like this album right away to give it a few more listens to see how great it really is. Amy and guitarist Terry have created something wonderful here and I just hope her fans see that.
Free Music Review: Kintel Hit: 5 Stars
Of course many people prefer Fallen... as a band they should evolve and this album is very different. I think it's better than Fallen (don't beat me up! I also love Fallen!)
1- Sweet Sacrifice (18/20). I admit I hated it at first. But know I'm in love with the song and it means a lot to me
2- Call me When you're sober (17/20). They could have chosen a different song for first single but it's a good song anyway
3- Weight of the world (19/20). Really good. Love the line "I won't be held down by who I used to be"
4- Lithium (19/20). I think the video doesn't fit it... they could have made a better video because the song deserves it
5- Cloud Nine (17/20). Catchy but monotone
6- Snow White Queen (20/20). It should be a single. What it's said on it and the way they express it... Just love it!
7- Lacrymosa (20/20). Another one that should be a single. I love each second of it... I don't get tired of it
8- Like You (18/20). Some people say it's The Open Door "Hello" but for me Hello is much better. But it's good song anyway
9- Loose Control (19/20). It took me a long time to understood it... the Mary's lamb thing is really strange but when you get it, you love it
10- The Only One (17/20). It's good but I got tired of it quickly.
11- Your Star (12/20). I don't like it. I don't know why, I just can't get it
12- All that I'm living for (16/20). Good but nothing new on it
13- Good enough (19/20). Beautiful track. Amy voice is really deep on this one.
Overall: 17,8
Evanescence evolved in this album, and all we can do is wait for the next album and see if they are geting good or if this is their best
Free Music Review: Amazing follow up album Hit: 5 Stars
Evanescences' first album "Fallen" had gradually made its way into multi-platinum stardom from the major success of their two songs "Bring me to Life" and "My Immortal". The two songs were featured in the movie "Daredevil" and sadly, the movie wasn't all that great. But fortunatly, the songs were played on the radio and obviously caught most listeners and intrigued them to pursue the whole experience by purchasing their album.
We've all had our fill of something unique and amazing. But then there was a long....LONG wait before their next album even was mentioned. But in all honesty I'm glad; the product was definatly worth the wait.
When the album was released, I certainly had my hopes reserved though; I knew the band had been through some major changes. Amy Lee and Ben Moody were the major parts of the band, both contributing very raw and emotional talent to their debut album. After Moody had left the band Mid-Tour, I thought I'd never seen another album, or at the very least a decent one. So now enter "The Open Door", Evanescences follow up album almost after 4 years of their debut album. "The Open Door" is a album full of haunting and memorable songs; from the very opening to the very last song, you'll feel the pain, frustration, and hardships that the band has been through.
It is an album that perfectly compliments their debut album. Their lyrics are much more personal and that always makes for good song writing. Amy Lee's vocals are still amazing and the band's overall tone has somewhat matured since "Fallen". But either way you put it, this album rocks. Not everyone will like it, but if you liked the first one, then I've no doubt you'll like this one too.
