Free Music Review: One of 2007's BEST ALBUMS, Better Than Their Debut
Hit: 5 Stars

I don't write reviews anymore because there aren't that many albums worth writing about these days. This one is definately an exception. This music is fantastic. I've listened to these songs probably more than anyone on the planet with maybe the exception of Evans Blue themselves. I think if I read one more time any reference to this album being "rushed" I will get sick. I think what they've done is incredible. Last year I told people that I thought The Melody And The Energetic Nature Of Volume was the best album I bought all year. And I probably listened to it all year. There is no question that this new album is better, and I did not think that could even be possible. I had already prepared myself for somewhat of a letdown because I knew that their sophmore effort couldn't top the debut, but that wasn't the case at all. This album is slightly harder and heavier than the first (which I like). I couldn't believe one reviewer wrote some garbage about the band not giving themselves time to grow and experiment. I HATE it when a band has a sound and then they try to experiment and it ends up sounding like a totally different band. It's because of the original formula, because of that Evans Blue sound, that I bought this new album without even first hearing a preview. I would have been mad if I had bought this album and they had totally changed their sound (Strata did it and I was disgusted). My point is, EB did not need to change the formula. All they did was slightly tweek it and as a result we have one of the year's best albums. If they put out another album next week I wouldn't be able to get it soon enough. A++ EFFORT.

Free Music Review: Sophomore release is just as good as debut.
Hit: 5 Stars

Even though they released this album only a year and a half after their debut, this effort does not seem rushed. The songs are all fully-realized and full of killer hooks. The vocals are as outstanding as ever. In reality, each song on here is deserving of radio play. That is one thing that is great about these guys. The music is uncompromising, and they don't release sub-par songs. My one criticism is that they don't have that one simply awesome song that people would buy the record for alone. "Cold (But I'm Still Here)" was that song for their debut. That's not to say that there are any shortage of great songs on here. As far as heavy rock goes, these guys are one of the best bands out there.
One interesting thing that they have used on each album is a cover song from a female pop artist. On their debut, it was "Posession" by Sarah McLaughlin. This one features "Caught A Lite Sneeze" by Tori Amos. I never thought I'd say that I enjoyed a song written by either of them, but Evans Blue does a great job of turning them into heavy songs and making them their own. Check it out for yourself. I consider those songs to be highlights on each album. In summary, if you like heavy rock music from bands like Taproot, Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, or 10 Years, check these guys out. They have quickly become one of my favorite new bands.

Free Music Review: Simply Amazing
Hit: 5 Stars

I will start by saying I think Evans Blue is an incredible band. They have some sort of "it" factor in their music. I really hate putting it that way, but their songs are so emotional it really is moving sometimes. Plus the lyrics match the band's sound amazingly well. I guess I have no perfect words to describe Evans Blue and their sound. Lets just say they have something special.

Enough babble about that, well I have listened to "The Pursuit.." for like 4 months straight now, not everyday but a lot, and I cant stop either. The album is solid from track to track in my opinion. I favor songs like Q and The Pursuit, but every song has something to offer. I do agree the albums is similar to the debut, but I dont think that is a bad thing right now. Bands will always be criticized for not changing their sound or ruining their sound, so it a fine line and a pointless argument. Sure I want to hear Evans Blue experiment with future albums, but I dont think this albums suffers because of its similarity to the debut. It is not like they wore out their sound with the debut album and are one hit wonders.

Evans Blue second effort didnt miss a beat after the first album and actually complements the first album. I would recommend both CDs to anyone.

Free Music Review: Surprisingly An Excellent Follow Up Album
Hit: 5 Stars

Evans Blue has released their second album in a rather short amount of time from the release of their previous album, however thankfully the music did not suffer at all. In fact I find this album to be slightly superior to their debut. I still think that "Eclipsed" is my top favorite song from their debut, but this album has a far more amount of songs that I enjoy. Among my top favorites are "Q (The Best One Of Our Lives)," "My Damsel: A Confession To An Adversary," "Pin-Up," "Shine Your Cadillac" and "Painted." My only complaint is with "Painted" unfortunately. The song itself is great and one of my favorites, but it goes on for far too long. I enjoy the extended outro up until the shockingly good guitar solo ends at about the 7:30 mark. After that the song takes a horrible downward turn into a bunch of background noise, guitar feedback, chanting and yelling. I could have done without all of that. But otherwise this album is just as good, if not better than their debut and I would strongly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of modern melodic rock music.

Free Music Review: second time is a charm
Hit: 5 Stars

I don't do many reviews but after the blabber i was reading i figured my 2 cents wouldn't hurt at all...I heard the "they came out with a new CD too fast" take, the "they sound like the first one too much" take and I dont know what the hell your listening too....its not even close, this effort eclipses the first one, not even close.....7-8 songs listenable on a CD nowadays is a rarity, highlights...Q,Pin Up, In a red dress, dear lucid.....painted is good too however the last 4 mins of filler I could do without...I thought EB's first effort was a reach at best, with a couple of highlights.. I'm glad they decided to counter so quick with #2.....in my opinion best rock CD so far of 07, and i 've listened to it 6-7 times already before writing my opinion as opposed to listening to it once and then complaining about it....for those that think it sounds too much like EB's first effort, get over it, your wrong!....highly recomend this!! From what I've read you can probably get one from the used bin from some of these others who didn't like it.....buy it!!
