Free Music Notes for Adapt Or Die: 10 Years of Remixes (Dig)Free Music Review: Great Remixes. Hit: 5 Stars
Remix albums are a hot thing now and Everything But The Girl were definitely in line to release their own remixes on an album. I am always first in line to purchase any remix album that comes out and this release is definitely worth it. It contains some awesome tracks and EBTG are definitely one of the artists from the 90's that wont be forgotten. Especially since they re-released a Todd Terry remix of the massive pop club track Missing. Of course on this release they don't have the Todd Terry remix of Missing but a rare unreleased CL McSpadden Powerhouse Mix. The remix definitely takes me back to 1995 when club and house music were exploding and this track was definitely one of the songs to help do that. I especially love the Knee Deep Remix/Ben Watt Vocal Re-Edit of Corcovado. It's got that hot Latin House vibe going for it and it definitely gets the groove going. The DJ Jazzy Jeff Sole Full Remix of Mirrorball has been given that extra deep downtempo beat to make for a laidback soulful remix. It's originally a great track and this version has definitely improved upon how wonderful it is. Kevin Yost's Everything And A Groove Mix of Five Fathoms is just remix perfection. I originally had this remix on the CD single and it was refreshing to definitely to hear it again. I like the way they have broken down with the remixes and they include both very upbeat ones and laidback ones as well. Lastly it's excellent to end the CD with an acoustic version of Driving. I great touch to an awesomely produced CD. Worth it for any fan of remixes.

Free Music Review: truth in advertising.... Hit: 5 Stars
If nothing else, EBTG win this year's Truth In Advertising Award by calling this collection "Adapt or Die." For years they recorded album after album of wonderfully melodic adult lite/pop/jazz and were marginally successful in America ( but critics' darlings in the UK ) until they (or maybe their record company) had techno guru Todd Terry remix the single "Missing" into a major pop/dance/club hit. What came next were two fantastic albums that were totally electronic, quite listenable and user friendly , considering the electronica hype that swept the US at the time . As a fan of the Thorn/Watt songwriting team I can assure the potention buyer that this collection of remixes will thrill and delight those who adore the thump of four on the floor club music as well as those who prefer more laid back grooves.Everything is here, from trip hop to hi-nrgy. This is the rare remix album that is not just a stop-gap, a throw away or a "wait til we write more songs" collection. Five stars , absolutely.
Free Music Review: Everything AND the Girl Hit: 5 Stars
I've long been a fan of EBTG's remixes... Tracy Thorn's vocals float seductive and ethereal over Ben Watt's-- and other remixers'-- electro-beats. With this new collection, it's nice, for one, to have the remixes in one place. Most often this also means the collector gets shortchanged since s/he already has everything but one or two tracks on the new collection. "Adapt or Die" bucks this trend like a buzzing fly, with a collection of largely unreleased or extremely hard-to-find remixes. 4 tracks are brand new--including a great rework of "Mirrorball"--others are rare or previously unreleased on CD. (Most fans, like me, will have two to four tracks in their collection.) More than anything, "Adapt or Die" shows that, despite some time off, EBTG is still very much in the game, straddling that divide between pop and electronica, between accessibility and credibility, and doing a bang up job of it.
Free Music Review: Must Have for the EBTG Collection Hit: 5 Stars
I recently went online to see if Everything But the Girl had released anything new since Temperamental and came across this CD. I immediately purchased and it hasn't left my car since. While granted that this a remix album, it does nothing to shortchange the absolute brilliance of EBTG. The best mix for me is Lullaby of Clubland. I think I listened to this song about 20 times in a row from the first time I heard it. The classics are also here: Missing and Wrong. It was listening to those two songs in the clubs ten years ago that first introduced me to EBTG, of which I am so eternally grateful. I recently played the Missing remix from the CD at a DJ gig I did two weeks ago and the reaction blew me away. Missing is still the quintessential club staple after all these years. EBTG rules!
Free Music Review: More than what you may expect Hit: 5 Stars
Beyond just a remix album, this is an overhaul of most of these ebtg classics. Admittedly biased-I am a die-hard ebtg fan, but this one impressed me none-the-less. The total reworking of great songs with fun results! Although I admit I don't like the Tempermental redo, it is certainly creative, and fits a certain mood and theme within the song. Whilst I would of course prefer new ebtg stuff, as Tracey is playing house (in a good way), this is an awesome alternative.
If you are new to ebtg or a long-time fan, this is a very worthy investment. Ben & Tracey have so much to say, in so many ways. I thank them for the latest in over twenty years of stellar releases.
