Free Music Review: Wounded...indeed.
Hit: 3 Stars

I am a big fan of Everything But The Girl. From my discovery of their beautiful jazz pop swing of BABY THE STARS SHINE BRIGHT thru the woefully accoustic beauty of AMPLIFIED HEART. But, no! One fluke hit with "Missing", one hit and BAMM! They swing direction to match the remix to "Missing" and make an album that is horror of horrors.....................oh I can't bring myself to say it...........ug.....they became...TECHNO! (Oh God noooo whyy!!???)

To me the album sounded rushed. I can see Ben and Tracy talking...

[Ben: "Tracy, we had a U.S. hit with the remix to Missing...let's just milk it for all its worth and go techno!
Tracy: "Ben what a brilliant idea. We would be perfect for souless dance tunes and make milions!"
Ben: "We could buy whatever we wanted...$$$]

Ok to be fair there are four songs that make the album strong...I guese. "Before Today", "Wrong" "Walking wounded" and "Single". (Hmmm notice these were the single releases from WW...hmmm.)

Working in a music store I had a 17 year old kid come to me and ask for "E.B.T.G". I looked at him, disguested and said..."WHO???!"

If you like techno, fine so do I...and I believe in artistic experimentation. But, the decision to "go techno" came so soon after their fluke success that it makes me suspicious.

Still at least the lyrics didn't suffer. And Tracy still sounds good. But I miss the beautiful accoustics and all that fire.

I guese I'll just have to settle for a glowstick.

The electronic makeover Tracey and Ben had really paid off. It started with the classic "Missing Remix" and collabs with trip hop acts like Massive Attack; rubbing elbows with dance did wonders for the duo, especially because of Tracey's beautiful voice. From the lush "Before Today" to the bumping and grinding "Wrong", this is an essential for any fan of any genre.

Free Music Review: BRILLIANT
Hit: 5 Stars

I have had this CD for a long time and it's a standout in my CD collection. This is a must have CD. It should be in all CD collections. It's perfect music to live by. Tracey Thorn's voice is pure heaven mixed with this raw emotion. Ben Watt produces great tracks that go along with Thorn's voice. I just had the pleasure of seeing Ben Watt in action with Lazy Dog. What a great night!! Get this album you won't be disappointed. This album will break your heart and make you get up and dance.

Free Music Review: Delicious and satisfying
Hit: 5 Stars

I could listen to this album all day long. Tracy Thorne's vocals grab you and seduce you! This album mellows you out, makes you yearn for lost loves and kind of makes you want to shake your groove thing.

The lyrics are at once inspiring and sad, "The Heart Remains a Child" is a perfect example of this. But all the songs are triumphant in combining R&B's soul with Jazz's style with Drum & Bass' pacing. Watt and Thorne even touch a bit on hip-hop with "Flipside." However, Everything But the Girl successfully bring these various influences harmoniously together!

Free Music Review: A CD for (almost) everyone
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a very dramatic work of art by the British duo.
Heres what I think of each track
B42day-Great opener
Wrong-Has echoes of the Todd Terry Missing remix but is still a great listen
Single-Reminds me of acoustic EBTG
The Heart Remains a Child-^
Walking Wounded- My least favourite track
Flipside-Great song!
Big Deal-Ditto
Mirrorball-see Single
Good Cop Bad Cop-Havent given much thought.....
