The 3 A's stand for: Astonishing, Amazing, Awesome. Words cannot describe the intimate beauty of the third release "The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place" by Explosions in the Sky. Although, each song on this release has been listened to numerous amounts of times prior to the cd release date, the songs all grouped together like this make for an impressive sound and one not likely to be tampered with by any current band. Explosions in the Sky have raised the bar higher than on their last album "Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever." While both are excellent pieces and can't reccomend one above the other, both are totally different. While "Those Who Tell the Truth..." is a sonic barrage of driving guitars, pounding bass, and smashing drums; "The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place" offers some of the same, but in limited quantities - very limited. What it lacks in all out aggression, it picks up with in technicality, precision, and dynamics. This, ladies and gentlemen, is everything you would ever expect from the band. If you're new to the band, pick both cds up. You would be doing yourself a huge favor. See you on their stops in Texas.
