Free Music Review: Journey for the Soul
Hit: 5 Stars

I have recommended this album to many friends, all who agree there is nothing else like it. It has become one of my all-time favorite albums. You need to buy this CD and experience it for yourself without interruptions.

I bought tis for my son who is a music major. He loved it

Free Music Review: transcendental
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm not exaggerating; the compilation on this CD does transcend most music on the 'pop' charts today. Not that this should in any way be considered 'pop'... it's just that it is sooo much better than what we are accustomed to being fed by the media! Beautiful, haunting, inspiring, mysterious, intriguing... this is the second CD I've purchased by Explosions in the Sky and I love both of them.

Free Music Review: A musical journey for closed eyes
Hit: 5 Stars

The first of the so-called "post rock bands" that I ever listened to was Mogwai and their "Happy Songs..." record. Hearing of others, I then gravitated towards Sigur Ros and then finally Explosions in the Sky. But whereas bands like Sigur Ros or Godspeed You Black Emperor! tend to incorporate so many different elements from synth to samples and everything in between, EitS tends to mainly focus on either a triple-guitar structure or traditional twin-guitar setup. While some might find it difficult to isolate certain tracks since they're similar, many of these tracks contain moving and amazing moments within them.

The album starts out with "First Breath After Coma" which is obviously meant to signify waking from a deep sleep. It starts quietly with echoing guitar before it starts to quietly build. Has some great interplay but it kind of loses steam halfway before goes slowly into its climax. It's a good listen but it doesn't really have that flawless structure I think Your Hand in Mine has.

"The Only Moment We Were Alone", the longest song on the record, it's also in a way a bit more complex. It's one of those ones where you really have to pay attention but its got some lovely passages and a massive ending and even though it at times feels its length, it's probably one of the better tracks on here.

"Six Days at the Bottom of the Ocean" is apparently about the Kursk, a Russian submarine that sank to the ocean bottom where the crew either suffocated, drowned or the explosion that make it sink. The track definately captures that feeling of being trapped and unable to call out. It's got a serenely beautiful opening until it kicks into high gear with big power chords and a great lead line. Probably second best track on the record.

"Memorial" was one of those kinds that I just didn't listen to enough even though it's got some catchy guitar lines. With long guitar feedback and catchy bass riffs to start us off, it builds and drops until it has another huge noise ending. I'm not really a big fan of this one since even after repeated listens, it just doesn't do anything.

Strange that an instrumental makes you think of romance and longing for someone to love. "Your Hand in Mine" has some beautiful guitar parts, flawless structure and has probably one of the most moving endings on the album. This is the kind of track that makes for a great sound for romantic moments...that's if you put it on anyway.

Sure it has one less-than-perfect track but that's small potatoes considering how stellar this record is. This is the kind of record that's perfect for dark rooms, headphones and just you lying down imagining whatever the music brings for you. Very much recommended.
