I'm back people! (Do I hear booing?..... can't be). I know that some of you out there will think I'm reviewing this Christmas selection late. But, ah! It is a matter of perception my people. It actually is early - and your Metamorpho is credited, once again, for being at the top of his game. (O.K., O.K., so the Seer's smoke and mirrors kit I got for Christmas helps just a bit). But the talent is all mine!
Was it two years ago or so, that I went out to one of those popular, incredibly manic (especially before the holidays) restaurants with some friends of mine when I heard the music here. I remember it distinctly. I was reaching for the chipotle sauce when this rock music entered my ear synapses. My eyes bulged out and I must have looked like a Christmas goose ready for the oven. I sat there and listened. It's the Beatles. But it's Christmas music. Wait- the Beatles never did a Christmas album. And well.... you know the rest. Another mystery to be solved by Metamorpho, P.I.
I finally figured it out! After looking around forever with great purpose, I got nowhere. Then, I decided to be tricky and found out what it was totally by accident! That Metamorpho. What a clever pl(b)oy!
Anyway - this selection is really, really great fun, especially if you are familiar with the Beatles early recordings. These guys are incredible when it comes to this tribute. Not only is the music (rythmn and lead guitar, harmonica, drums and bass) a dead on recreation of familiar songs and sounds - but the singers, as well, sound like Lennon and McCartney. You just can't get this good unless you love this music - and these guys are great!
I have to say that Seers are incredibly fond of anything clever - and this is extremely clever. You can hear "Frosty the Snowman" to the tune of "Mr. Moonlight", "Feliz Navidad" to the tune of "And I Love Her", "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" to the tune of "Baby's in Black", and "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" to the tune of "Help" just to give you some idea of what's here.
I did go further with my P.I. powers and discovered that The Fab Four are a California tribute band whose sound is the closest I've ever heard to the real thing. They also recreate different phases of the Beatles career with wardrobe changes, as well as doing the more intricate sounds. Really excellent. This is so much fun, and very well done. If you liked the Beatles then you must have this.
My only complaint is that this is a very short c.d. 22 minutes - which I believe is even less than what albums had way back when. But, even with that, the joy you will receive is priceless. So get it. Don't be a scrooge.
A respectable 4 1/2 stars and a snowball full of good cheer!
