Free Music Notes for Facing Future

Free Music Review: An Absolute Gem
Hit: 5 Stars

I highly recommend this beautiful CD filled with songs that truly touch both heart and soul. I have enjoyed listening to IZ's single "Over the Rainbow" on our local radio station for quite awhile and then had the wonderful opportunity to hear the CD in its entirety at a friend's home. When my brother passed on last November after an extended illness, I knew right away just how perfect Iz's Facing Future CD would be to accompany the slide show at my brother's Celebration of Life Memorial. One of my sisters had the same thought and that is exactly what we did. Although born in Washington state, our brother considered Hawaii his home and paradise after living there for 15 years. Facing Future was the perfect send off as we bid Aloha and Mahalo for now to our beloved brother. I am confident my dear brother and Izzy, with his voice of an angel, are both smiling down upon us from somewhere over the rainbow.

Free Music Review: Bruddah IZ, brother Rob
Hit: 5 Stars

I heard "Over the rainbow/what a wonderful world" during closing credits of "Meet Joe Black." It just grabbed me, deep in my chest. I didn't know exactly what the feeling was I was having, but pulled up the song online to hear it again.

On the third listen, I was overtaken by racking sobs, feeling like a profound pain was being dragged from the bottom of my soul.

My youngest brother, Rob, went missing in Boulder about 8 months ago, after trying to kill himself twice, and talking about jumping of a cliff. I have never grieved for him, until hearing this song. Then it just poured out of me. I heard all the pain and beauty my brother went through in IZ' words, somehow. His music has a quality I can describe no way other than "purity." Purity of love, desire, agony, and hope.

Thank you, IZ. I look forward to meeting you in the island in the sky. God bless you.

Free Music Review: Haunted by Iz
Hit: 5 Stars

While traveling thru Hawaii a couple years ago (on the Big Island) my wife and I kept hearing this beautiful, haunting music. Whether in a hotel lobby, airport, gift shop or whatever this music followed us like a ghost. I finally asked one of the locals who was that on the songs. She told me "that's Bruddah Iz" like I should have known. When we were at the airport leaving to return to the mainland I saw the Facing Future" CD for sale. Naturally I bought it and we played it all the way home in our car. Let me tell you Iz' music stays with you for days (you sing it in your sleep)! I looked up his bio on the internet upon arriving home and was shocked and saddened to hear of his passing in 1997. Of course I have since heard his music many times in movies (e.g., Finding Forrester) and have continued to be a huge fan. I wish someone would make a movie of his life. It would be great.

Free Music Review: Who Knew It Could Be This Great??
Hit: 5 Stars

I purchased this CD as a Christmas present for my husband. He is crazy about the Over The Rainbow/Wonderful World tune. I figured we'd maybe burn that one song and then allow the CD to languish in some dusty corner of the storage cabinet. Was I ever wrong!

I must admit that I've been completely ignorant of Hawaiian music beyond the standard fare dished up with the hula skirt gals - which is akin to likening rock-n-roll to just.... REO Speedwagon. Okay, so that may dig up some painful memories, but the analogy is necessary. IZ's music is absolutely NOTHING like Hula Skirt dance music.

Besides the Over The Rainbow tune, my favorite song on here is Hawai'i '78. He sings with so much soulful longing that you cannot help but find yourself longing for something you never knew existed. I look forward to loading my CD player with some of his other music.

Free Music Review: Does anyone NOT miss IZ?
Hit: 5 Stars

I lived in Maui for a year in 1962-63, my first year of college. There was one traffic signal on the island then and a population of about 35,000 population. Israel was about 4 years old then so I never got to hear him sing. I lost touch with Hawaii for 40 years. I found IZ just stumbling around YouTube and now I listen to him every day. I'm told he died at age 38 in 1997 and this CD is still the most played CD in Hawaii. It renews my respect for Hawaii and the Hawaiian people and the basics of life (sun, sand, stars, sound of the ocean, moon, music, family and friends). Hawaii is the right brain of America and all the Mainland the left brain. We need Hawaii for balance. You can see IZ is very heavy and on the CD you can occasionally hear the sign of a heavy person. His heart and soul were bigger than his body and his voice is so heavenly you will love this CD.
