Free Music Notes for Facing FutureFree Music Review: Sad, Sincere, Amazing. Hit: 5 Stars
Iz's voice is the voice of generations of Hawaiian's who wonder about the future and what it holds for their people. He is also the joyful storyteller that lets us share in his culture.
"White Sandy Beach of Hawai'i" is an utterly romantic song that could very easily be someone's - first dance as a married couple, song at their wedding reception.
"Somewhere Over the rainbow/What a Wonderful World" has been featured in movies and tv shows for a reason...there is a quiet power in the way Iz sings these classics.
Although I don't understand the Hawaiian words on many of the songs it simply doesn't matter. The lilt in the voice, the giddiness of delight, the heaviness in the feel; it all translates into a delightful and lovely CD. A little sad, a little fun but amazingly cool.
Sit with a glass of your favorite iced beverage, turn the lights out, light a few of your favorite candles and relax to the music. You'll be tapping your toes as well as welling up a few tears.
Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's Facing Furture is well worth your listening efforts.
Free Music Review: IZ is Hawaiian music at its best! Hit: 5 Stars
When we visited Hawaii for the second time a few years ago, we kept hearing this catchy little tune about a Hawaiian Superman. Then as we were taking the Wiki Wiki at the airport we heard it one last time. We asked the driver who the artist was, and he said, "Oh, that's the Big Man himself, Bruddah Iz!" Once we got back to Colorado, and wanted a little Hawaii, I decided to lookup this Bruddah Iz's music. When I found this CD, I found one of the treasures of my life. I have listened to this CD many hundreds of times and will never tire of it. "Maui Hawaiian Sup'pa Man" is that catchy little tune I went to find, but the rest of this CD has a depth that few artists can reach. From the openning and closing versions of Hawai'i 78, which cry for the plight of the true Hawaii, to the wonderful mixture of Somewhere Over the Rainbow with What a Wonderful World, this is a CD not to be missed.Even if you have never visited Hawaii or listened to Hawaiian music before, buy a copy this CD and it will immediately become one of the premier discs in your collection.
Free Music Review: amazing Hawaiian easy listening album Hit: 5 Stars
This is easy listening Hawaiian-style, but IK is a class act: am amazing singer, wonderful songs plus the rich cultural experience of hearing the Hawaiian language and lyrics about the Hawaiian experience. The opening song transcends the rest of the album and is in a class by itself, or actually, with a select few other intimate pop songs that involve speaking as well as singing: Van Morrison's "Coney Island" comes to mind on [[ASIN:B0010DJ1II Avalon Sunset]. It's a unique and beautiful song that can really be considered high art in the same way that the Beatles achieved high art with experimental pop songs like "Strawberry Fields." OK, IK is not the Beatles, but he has that same spirit of greatness and no one else can sing like him. The overall mood of this album is contentment and celebration with some sadness thrown in, with the opening song. His remake of "Country Road" by John Denver actually works and the rewritten lyrics that describe Hawaii instead of West Virginia flow perfectly. In short, this is a terrific album and if you like "easy listening" you shouldn't miss it!
Free Music Review: A little shrine on Kauai Hit: 5 Stars
On a green grass lawn, near kalapaki bay on Kauai, a stone's thrown from the shipping port in a rather unprentenious place there sits a small metal ukulele on a shrine to one of Hawaii's beloved heros - Bruddah Iz - Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. You might miss it when driving past. It is not the kind of monument left to kings, queens, miliary heros or popular politicians. It is, instead, simply a token of affection by the people of Kauai who still love a man most never met who passed almost ten years ago. Usually the ukulele is drapped with a fresh lei or flowers. And often there is one or two or a few people standing there just looking at it. Most don't have anything to say and don't know what to say. Instead, eventually, they drift away back into their cars where they insert a CD into the player to listen again, perhaps for the hundreth time, to a voice that speaks to them, sometimes in words they do not know, about love and brotherhood and all that is good in the world. And all that could be better somewhere over the rainbow.
Free Music Review: Iz speaks to my soul... Hit: 5 Stars
Last Summer, while living in New Orleans, my husband and I threw a Luau for our friends. I bought a bunch of "luau" cds and a coule of Iz's. We immediatley fell in love with the songs and his amazing voice. After the luau, Iz's cds stayed outside, on the carport, with the stereo and everyday we'd sit in the backyard and watch the kids splash around in their kiddie pool. It was idyllic.
Flash forward one year and we're now living in Orlando, FL, starting over. The last year has been hard, but we've finally settled into a new home and are slowly rebuilding our lives. Our new home has a lovely pool and lanai. The only Cd we have purchased, so far, is Iz's Facing Future. We play it everday and remember the amazing life we had in New Orleans, while appreciating the new and wonderful life we're starting. My husband says he speaks to our souls, and I agree. Today, I'm back to buy more Iz for our next Luau, for all our new friends. Buy his cds--you will not be sorry!
