Free Music Notes for Facing Future

Free Music Review: If you don't enjoy this cd you don't know what real music is.
Hit: 5 Stars

Great music has a great following of fans, but what makes even greater music is having a large variety of fans as well. IZ's music can be categorized as Hawaiian music, however it is evident that the music he created is so inspirational, so evocative, so beautiful that it has attracted a wide variety of people (just look at where all the reviewers are from). IZ has a widespread fan base,of people that don't neccesarily like Hawaiian music but like IZ. IZ made real and passionate songs. There is more to IZ than his rendition of "Somewhere over the Rainbow." I think everyone can feel what IZ wanted people to feel through his music, if people are less critical and truly listen. If you study up on IZ and his life you will even more feel the meaning in his songs regardless of whether you understand the Hawaiian language, and you will also experience the pain that Hawaii and the world felt when we lost this wonderful singer and person. If you like real music you will like this CD.

Free Music Review: 50 First Dates-Rice Crispies have two things in common "Iz" and Over the Rainbow
Hit: 5 Stars

I had never heard music like this before, it is magical...
I bought this cd after hearing the song "Over the Rainbow" on the movie "50 First Dates", with Drew Barrimore and Adam Sandler (which I also purchased, partly because of the song, and loved the movie as well).
I did a search to find out who was singing the song and found Iz, and immediately purchased it. The combination or medley of "Over the Rainbow" and "What a wonderful World" flow so beatifully; I do not think I have ever heard it done better..
I was amazed with the Hawain music and the voice of Israel "Iz" Kamakawiwo'ole.
After that I was sold on his music and style, only to purchase more...I only wish he could still be performing, but I believe he passed away either right before or after the movie was made; not sure of the facts.

Add to the fact that since then part of this song was played on the Rice Crispies Commercial, Kind of keeps you wanting to hear more.

Free Music Review: This CD defines the beauty of this man!
Hit: 5 Stars

I first heard this CD is 1995 on the night I arrived in Hawaii to live. The first time I heard the haunting sounds of the cut, Hawaii 78, I was up all night with it's hauntng music and incredible message racing thru my mind. The sound and melody a mixture of incitement that would never leave me--ever. I have been to this man's concerts and attended his State Capitol viewing mentioned in the review. He was a legend and an example that will stay with all who listen to his music-forever. SO will the tunes on this CD. They are modern Hawaiian music, a mixture of the NOW and the Past all in one. Iz's ukulele playing, combined with the flowing sounds of his voice give movement to any soul listening to what he has produced. I have all of his music and this is his finest. Yet they all are worth owning. Buy it, listen to it, open your mind to a different sound and learn why this man was given the gift he had. Aloha and ENJOY!

Free Music Review: E Ala E
Hit: 5 Stars

While visiting Hawaii recently I wanted to take home some music to listen to. I bought a CD "E Ala E" and I can truly say I was fortunate in choosing it. I had no idea what I had chosen until I got home. I have listened to it many times. I told my husband that if ever I could attend a concert by Iz, I would do anything to attend. I looked up his name on the computer and was shocked to find that he died in 1997. What a tragic loss! I am now going to purchase all his music and have a complete collection for my listening pleasure. He moved me emotionally and I feel blessed to have found his recording. His voice remains with me as I go about my day and I find much comfort and peace. Israel was truly gifted and I am grateful to have the chance to hear his voice and experience his artful display of what was in his heart. Yes, his music will be an important part of my life. Thank you, Israel, for your gift to all of us.

Free Music Review: bruddah IZ IZ
Hit: 5 Stars

ok, maybe his cover of "country road" is a non-essential track. but if you have a love or interest for hawai'ian music and culture, everything else on this album is necessary to hear! his renditions of "hawai'i 78" just get more poignant and meaningful with repeated listenings, as do IZ classics such as "white sandy beach" and great hawai'ian songs such as "Henehene Kou 'Aka".

i recently attended a wedding where IZ's rendition of "wonderful world/over the rainbow" was the first piece of music that was played in the ceremony. but neither the bride nor groom knew the name of the man who had created the medley they had selected! ...a telling indication of bruddah IZ's status as a seriously underappreciated musician.

check out the album "e ala e" for more of mr. israel kamakawiow'ole's beautiful creativity and musical teachings about the US' seizure of his hawai'iian nation.
