Free Music Notes for Facing Future

Free Music Review: What a great find!
Hit: 5 Stars

Just back from Thanksgiving week in Hawaii -- where I listened to local radio -- and heard this haunting refrain 'Cry for the People' sung by the most melodious voice I'd heard in ages. I had no idea what I was listening to. And heard it just that once during the week in Hawaii. While waiting for my plane back to the Mainland at Honolulu airport, a local music kiosk was playing 'Cry for the People' --and I knew it was meant to be. I bought the CD on the spot. Not knowing that 'Over the Rainbow' was also IZ's. It's gone to my list of favorites. And I turned to amazon.com to learn about what I was listening to. Thank you amazon.com for allowing me to learn all about the artist I knew nothing about -- even though I didn't buy it through amazon.com -- and am so saddened to learn of the loss of such a great artist. You provide a wonderful service -- please don't stop your backgrounders. It will pay off in future sales, I promise you.

Free Music Review: The Epitome of Hawaiian Spirit
Hit: 5 Stars

I was recently in Hawaii on my honeymoon, and wanting to take something special home with us as a reminder of our time there, we bought Facing Future. I can't tell you how IZ's music has had an affect on me. Through his music, he is able to express the Hawaiian spirit that lives inherently in those native to the islands, and those who have visited and understand the spirit that lies within the islands. Hawaii '78 at the beginning and the end of the album is haunting. He vividly portrays the lament of what Hawaii has become in the age of modernism. In other songs, he expresses the light-hearted side of Hawaiian life and its rich culture with music using traditional instruments. Our favorites include "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful Life" and "White Sandy Beach of Hawaii". I would highly recommend this or any other IZ album to anyone wishing to listen to authentic, tasteful Hawaiian music!

Free Music Review: IZ voice of the people
Hit: 5 Stars

hi from the beautiful land of Italy
I think Israel Kamakawiwo'ole ( the fearless eyes the bold face) had a magic touch in his voice and in the way he was able to improvise and rearrange all the songs he sang. the story behind the medley that changed the world is quite interesting ..it is on his biography that Amazon sells as well called: IZ voice of the people. in short: he called the studio in the middle of the night saying he had something in mind and he absolutely had to record it .. he was so persistent and sweet that the producer agreed so he went to the studio, sat down with his Ukulele played 4 songs ( over the rainbow/wonderful world was one of them) and then he said: now I'm tired.. and he left... and that is the version we all love... I think this shows his genius his talent, how big he was and he will always be. long live Israel Kamakawiwo'ole and please check all his music he was simply astonishing.

Free Music Review: What a wonderful voice!
Hit: 5 Stars

Having been enchanted by "Over the Rainbow / What a Wonderful World", we were delighted to discover IZ's CD while visiting Maui recently. (I had purchased the "Finding Forrester" CD, but wanted more of IZ!) The CD delivers a combination of traditional Hawaain music "Kalluila Wai", along with "Rainbow" and a localized version of "Take Me Home, Country Roads". His soothing voice is well-ranged, like a soft Hawaai breeze. The CD cover boasted that "Rainbow" had been used in THREE movie soundtracks including "Finding Forrester", "Meet Joe Black", and one other...which I don't recall.

We have always enjoyed being introduced to traditional and contemporary Hawaain artists while vacationing. "Facing Future" will be one of our most treasured CD's, knowing that IZ passed away, and we won't be blessed with more of his wonderful music.

Free Music Review: Somewhere...
Hit: 5 Stars

Two remarkable things just happened to me. I just listened to Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's "Facing Future" and I watched the first episode of MTV's "The Real World". Strangely, they had the same effect on me....

First, the Real World. Seeing this television show made me realize that we have nothing left to offer the world. Our shallow, pointless lives have become fodder for television entertainment. None of the people on the Real World has a redeeming quality. They are petty, shallow, abusive. They represent us at our worst.

Next, I listened to IZ's beautiful 1993 album "Facing Future". It made me realize that, unless I spend my life trying to bring the same beauty and peace into the world that he has, my own life has no meaning.

We are here for the comfort of one another. We have failed at that task. Listening to this album is a call to action. Listen.
