Free Music Notes for Joy To The WorldFree Music Review: I'm actually not one to buy Christmas cds...I made the exception here. Hit: 5 Stars
Although I adore Christmas music, there are few cds that have moved me enough to purchase them simply because there is such a variety on the radio that I just tend to keep that going around the holidays.
After hearing this cd at a friend's house, however, I made the exception. There is something about Faith Hill's amazing voice coupled with such moving songs that make this one you just won't grow tired of, in my opinion. Better yet, it bridges the age gaps of who will enjoy hearing it. My 6 year old niece loved it as much as my "senior parents" and as much as my 27 year old friend who bought it does too! It's just such a strong mix of music and vocals.
That said, our family has a personal joke that says as much about Faith Hill's personal beauty aside from her musical beauty. My father owns a restaurant at a resort location. He was working the front one day when someone quite striking came in and, after her group had eaten and she came up to pay her bill, he made some comment along the lines of "I'm sure you get told often how strikingly beautiful you are. You could be on t.v." She simply smiled and said "thank you" as she paid her check. As she left the employees said "Did you know that was Faith Hill?" Which was confirmed in the paper the next day...
...He did not... (and that alone cracks me up since he has several of her c.d.s)
To this day we joke that dad tried to hit on Faith Hill without realizing it. However, I commend her charm in saying "thank you", paying her bill, and not saying "do you know who I am?" or "I am on t.v. all the time! I'm Faith Hill!" It's made me like her even more since that happened. Because they also get plenty that do say exactly who they are at bill paying time in there! :-)
But that still does not bias my opinion musically...there is no bias needed. Faith Hill hits the mark on great music on this one... How she sings, afterall, has little to do with how she acts. Fortunately, both are sweet.
Free Music Review: A Faith-full holiday collection Hit: 5 Stars
Before reading much here, please understand that I could listen to Faith Hill singing names out of the phone book or words directly out of the dictionary. She has a beautiful voice and is so enjoyable to listen to that in many ways I never really notice what she's singing. Now that's not really true, as I know the words to her songs and have to resist the urge to add my horrible singing voice to hers for many of her songs, but my point would be that when she sings she does so beautifully. Her voice is, well appropriately enough for this collection of music, angelic to me.
Now with that said, I want to say thanks to Faith Hill and the others behind putting out this album. These songs are not just favorites for Faith Hill and her family, but favorites I've enjoyed over the years. Having Faith Hill sing these songs and being able to listen to them offers me something extra to enjoy over the holiday season.
Are these songs something that one would listen to year round? (Some might hope and wish for the message(s) to continue well past the season) Probably not as most people tend to tire of hearing holiday music just about the same time the Christmas dinner is being cleared off the table. That said, for most people this collection will make a very nice addition to the holiday music stack.
Note that the collection includes only one new song, A Baby Changes Everything, with the rest of the album entirely comprised of classics. Personally I enjoy everything in the collection, though the one new song does seem to break the style that is heavily present in the other songs. There's nothing wrong with that, but some may wish that another song had replaced that one. It remains to be seen whether A Baby Changes Everything becomes a classic in it's own right, but it is a beautiful tune and is perfect for the season.
Free Music Review: Most beautiful Christmas Album Hit: 5 Stars
I don't understand those who gave this album less than 4 stars or called it boring. I was looking for a new Christmas CD as I was getting a bit tired of my old collection. While I love the classics, I wanted something fresh and new without getting away too much from the classic sounds of Christmas songs. So I did a search and came across this one. I am not a huge fan of Country music but always thought Faith Hill had a beautiful voice. So with this album I expected the usual twangy, country Christmas tunes. When I listened to some of the samples I was blown away by how beautiful the sound was. I purchased it and could not have been more happy with my purchase. I love the big band music and the choirs. I thought Faith's voice truly came to life on this album. The album is so soulful and while I am also not one to get too choked up over certain songs, this album was quite touching. For the first time in many, many years, I finally found my Christmas spirit. Faith has brought beauty and soul to each of the songs. The Little Drummer boy is very powerful and O Holy Night is truly gorgeous. But all of the songs are. You can hear a bit of the country sound on Away in a Manger and What Child is This? but it is very subtle. Perhaps those who gave the album low reviews were looking for too much Country in it. I personally think Faith should do more of this type of singing. And I agree with the other viewers who feel that those who gave this low reviews have no taste. This music and vocals are far from boring.
Free Music Review: "tis the season for Faith Hit: 5 Stars
Seems like Christmas starts earlier and earlier every year, and this year the new albums have already started coming out. "Country" and "Christmas" have always gone hand in hand, and this is Faith Hill's very first album of Christmas music.
There are ten traditional carols, plus the single "A Baby Changes Everything", and the album has a big band sound that will remind you of those old black and white holiday movies that they dig out every single year.
"A Baby Changes Everything" puts the Christmas story in a modern light, beginning:
"Teenage girl, much too young / Unprepared for what's to come / A baby changes everything"
and ending:
"My whole life is turned around / I was lost and now I'm found / A baby changes everything"
I found that on a couple of the tracks Faith out-sang the backing orchestra, but the following songs are the ones to put on your playlist this season:
Joy to the World
What Child is This?
Little Drummer Boy
Away in a Manger
O Holy Night
Winter Wonderland
A Baby Changes Everything
Thanks Faith, for not changing up the traditional carols and making them unrecognizable, and although the big band sound isn't my thing, this is a warm and fuzzy album to add to your playlist. Recommended for fans of old movies, big bands, and traditional carols.

Free Music Review: A Joyful Album Hit: 5 Stars
Faith Hill continues to redefine what a "country artist" is by releasing a Christmas album that mixes big sound jazz, pop, gospel, and country. The result is a warm and interesting album that brings Christmas joy with a classic sound. Faith offers new twist to old standards and her version of "Little Drummer Boy" (the best cover on this album) is touching, inspiring, and soulful. Her new song "A Baby Changes Everything" is so special because she starts the song by singing about a teenager girl and its not until the end of the song when you realize she is talking about Mary (Jesus's mother). Everytime I hear the song, it brings tears to my eyes...this song is an instant classic!! The only complaint I have against this album is Faith's classic "Where Are You Christmas?" is missing.
I don't know if this album will stand the test of time, but I do know this album continues Faith's musical journey with wonderful results. As a result of this Christmas cd, I can't wait for her next album (for 2009) and the long-waited gospel album!
