Free Music Review: Faith Brought "Joy To This World" and To Christmas!!

I normally do NOT purchase Christmas albums, but when it came to "Joy To The World" I made an exception. I was in no way let down. The moment the music starts for track #1, I was instantly transported into a Wintery Wonderland. I could see visions of sugar plums dancing in my head. It was like I was a child again. I could see my Mother and Father putting up the Christmas Tree. I could see me and my sister (as children) putting on the ornaments. I could even smell my Grandma's Sugar cookies baking in the kitchen. I could even hear the cracklin' of our old homes fireplace. I was in the Christmas Spirit. Faith's versions of Christmas Classics left me yearning for the Yuletide and the wonderful memories that I remember from past childhood Christmases. Faith's voice is magical. "Joy To The World" is a MUST HAVE for any person who doesn't want to be The Grinch Who Stole Christmas this year. Merry Christmas To All And To All A Good Buy (get it)! If you like powerful alto vocals, Faith Hill is your girl. The album is full of very traditional arrangements of Christmas carols. If you are looking for something that breaks new ground, is trendy, or somehow different from all the other Christmas albums, this is not your album.
If you are looking for an album of very impressive vocals, minimal accompaniment, and traditional arrangements, this is one of the best.
Her version of O Holy Night! is one of the only versions I have ever heard that can stand next to Celine Dion's classic rendition. Faith has the voice to carry off this song, something few singers can accomplish.
I usually have Christmas carols playing throughout my house for most of December (yes, I know- sick). There are well over 100 albums that randomly rotate. This is one of the few albums (along with Brian Setzer's) that visitors have regularly asked about.

Most of my favorite Christmas carols are on here and they are perfectly rendered. Faith Hill has a powerful voice, but she doesn't go all crazy with it, so you can actually sing along with her even if you can't belt it out like she does.
Joy to the World is nicely straight-forward. What Child is This has a nice Celtic feel that fits so perfectly with the song that I wonder if it's Celtic in origin. The Little Drummer Boy is the best rendition I've heard and its inclusion on an album is usually the deciding factor in whether I'm going to part with my money or not.
As for secular carols, Santa Claus is Coming to Town is very good, but I would have liked to see Jingle Bells on there. Anyway, I'm glad they were kept to a minimum.
Overall, Faith Hill strikes a delicate balance between keeping things simple and enjoyable and showcasing her mighty voice.

I am from a traditional family and enjoyed "all the Christmas Classics" from the late 30's through the 60's. They were played on an old Webcor Stereo in the living room and on the radio, on Television Specials year after year. Each one was special and evoked a reverence, a nostalgia for times past, and an appreciation for times present.
Music touches the soul and what better time for Faith Hill to bring this collection to life. The whole album is so well done, respectful, playful and satisfying to all the senses.
To perform a song that evokes emotion...goosebumps,tears,warmth, that is what makes the whole album worth listening to once. The soul stirring this album causes brings you back to listen again and again. I saw her Television Special on GAC tonight and it was PERFECT.

I was introduced to a song called A Baby Changes Everything last night, I didnt know the whole cd was released yet. I usually dont purchase Christmas music but after hearing the 1 song that took my breath away and I surely had tears comming out of my eyes, this is absolutly a must. A very touching song about my life at the age of 18 and I assure you that was the best thing that has ever happened to me in my life was having a baby. I know I was not ready but I got ready and I was blessed again 2 more times. I have 3 daughters and would not change that for anything. Thank you Faith for the tribute and welcoming the Christmas Holidays. Love, Mrs. H
