Free Music Notes for The Director's CutFree Music Review: Nothing like a little insanity to make life interesting Hit: 5 Stars
Heard of Mr. Bungle? Heard of Faith No More? Heard of Tomahawk? Well I take it you have because if you haven't I really don't know why you would start with Fantomas to begin your journey into the genius of Mike Patton. It's really hard to review this album because as cliche as it sounds, it's like nothing I've ever heard before. I've always thought the idea to cover movie themes was great, and Fantomas does just that. But if you didn't know that information before listening to this album you'd have no idea these were originally movie themes. Fantomas contorts them to such great lengths it's hard to take everything in the first couple listens. Fantomas is also one of Mr. Pattons wierder bands, and that's quite a bit to say considering Mr. Bungles Disco Volante album...songs like Rosemary's Baby, Experiment In Terror, and Twin Peaks sound more mainstream than the others, but there's no way in hell you'd be hearing them on the radio anytime soon. If you like adventurous music, and stuff out of the ordinary this is definatly for you.
Free Music Review: GREATEST RECORD OF THE MILLENNIUM SO FAR Hit: 5 Stars
Fantomas' first album was a curiosity in itselfg, but due to it's aggessive blasts, a little more than a numbing experience in a constant place. That's why I was careful in my enthusiasm when I herad about this. Finally I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. This is the best stuff I've heard in seven years. Classical film music combined with Patton's eccentric views are a bona fide treat for any FNM/Bungle/Fantomas - fans, but this is simply real magic! Tracks like "The Godfather", "Experiment In Terror", "Der Golem", "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me", "Rosemary's Baby" and "Cape Fear" are almost too good to be ture. This equally beats the last FNM/Bungle albums! Cynics might pressume this is all thanks to the original songs, but it's the band's unmatchable approach to the tracks that make them breathe the way you didn't have the courage to dream about. This album is not only must for all you Patton-FNM-Bungle-Fantomas fans, but for anyone free of prejudice and will to experience something completely different and astonishing.
Free Music Review: MUSC 666 - ADVANCED MIKE PATTON Hit: 5 Stars
This is an advanced study in the realm that is Mike Patton. Students enrolling in this course must first have a thorough understanding of such recordings as "The Real Thing" and "Angel Dust". Also strongly recommended is Slayer's "Seasons in the Abyss" and/or "South of Heaven", without which, this course will go fully unappreciated. Mr. Bungle is STRONGLY recommended, and students with a Mr. Bungle background are heavily favored. Students with at least four years experience in a mental institution may substitute any of the above prerequistites given they have a legitimate doctor's notice. Students with a passing grade (D- or higher) from this course will have a strong distaste for practically anything that is played on a US radio station as such waves are sooooo inferior to the level of genious we hear from Mr. Patton and Mr. Lombardo, its literally laughable.
Free Music Review: unfortunate perfection Hit: 5 Stars
I really don't know what to think of this album. It is the best cartoon cabaret thrash metal album ever created (ousting the first Fantomas album, which now falls to #2) and is so vicious and lovely that nothing any of these band members have made in their own respective bands can ever come close. When I listen to a Slayer, Mr. Bungle, or Melvins album, I can still enjoy how amazing they are, but when I try to compare it to Fantomas, I just have to sadly shake my head. They are a supergroup made of members of supergroups, and the results are too mind-boggling to write about. Fantomas' Director's Cut album has ruined me, spoiling me rotten and making almost everything else I own [stink] in comparison. For this I am either very upset or eternally grateful, for at least now I'll only have to grab one CD if my house is burning down.
Free Music Review: Fantomas even amazes the skeptical Hit: 5 Stars
While I enjoyed Fantomas' first album, THe Director's Cut is even better. For those of you who found the first too abstract, the director's cut features actual songs. Even my friends who did not like Fantomas agrees that this is a great album. I even heard "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me" on the radio!, and that's one of my favorite tracks. Patton has taken these classic songs, and put his own spin on them (and you know what that's like) and through his gift, has created yet another masterpiece. (im also a Mr. Bungle and Faith No More fan) You probably already realize the caliber of the musicians in Fantomas, and in the director's cut, they all get to show off. It's Fantomas with a melody. My suggestion: Buy it! Listen to it two or three times, and you will not regret it.
