Free Music Notes for Greatest Hits: Walking To New OrleansFree Music Review: The best single Fats CD to own. An American treasure! Hit: 5 Stars
I reviewed several years ago, the Fats Domino CD with 20 songs on it. This one is even better because it features 30 and they are all great. From 1950 to 1963, his records were always on the R&B and pop charts with his driving New Orleans band and his carefree relaxed vocals and roadhouse piano style. He was one of the first artists to cross the barrier and bring real rock and roll to white audiences starting with 1955's Ain't That A Shame, which was covered by who else..Pat Boone? Well, in time, teens knew the real thing when they heard it and he racked up Rock and Roll masterpieces like Blueberry Hill, I'm Walking, Whole Lotta Lovin', I Want To Walk You Home, Blue Monday, I'm Ready and more! This CD includes those left off previous compilations like Please Don't Leave Me (1953) Honey Chile (1956) I'm Ready (1959) and others. So if there is only room for one Fats Domino CD, THIS IS THE ONE! Fats Domino was a major contributor to the birth of rock and roll and at the age of 80, still resides in New Orleans and is undoubtedly one of our national treasures! His records just flat out made you feel better and they had the big beat! The sound on these classic gems is excellent! Essential to every collection!
Free Music Review: Better than great Hit: 5 Stars
Wow! A greatest hits album that more than fulfills it's title. Thirty tracks on one disc and each a bonafide hit. As you may know, the Fat Man, influenced everyone from Paul McCartney to George Jones and it is easy to understand after listening to this album.
I also own the 4-disc Legendary Imperial Recordings titled "They Call Me the Fat Man," but I prefer the Greatest Hits album because it never stops rockin'. The 4-disc collection has some obscure recordings which are interesting and the booklet is very informative. But, obviously it is many more tracks and therefore not wall-to-wall, foot-tapping music.
I wish the Fat Man was still around, sharing his music in person. There will only be one Fat Man, so grab this album and enjoy. You'll be glad you did. By the way, the first track is "The Fat Man."
Free Music Review: The Essential Fats Domino collection Hit: 5 Stars
There have been many greatest hits packages issued for Fats but none come close
to the quality and love associated with this one. You get 30 of his best. The sound
quality is exemplary. The choice of songs is excellent. This collection provides you
with the history of one of rock's major legends. This is a must buy. All the
hits are there from Goin' Home (his first single), Ain't That a Shame (his first big hit),
I'm in Love, My Blue Heaven, the classic Blueberry Hill, Blue Monday, I'm Walkin'
to his last charted single, Let The Four Winds Blow. Great collection that finally
pays proper tribute that he so richly deserves.
Free Music Review: Fats Hit: 5 Stars
The music speaks for itself. If you don't like it, why would you be reading this review? The compilation is great, and features all of his big hits on Imperial from 1950-1961. It misses some great minor hits like his great version of "When The Saints Go Marching In" and "Sick And Tired", and there is not enough room on a single CD for all of his top 40 pop hits. Some of those are forgettable, however, and there are few flaws in the song selection, except for those aforementioned songs. All in all, a great compilation, and an improvement on Fats Domino Jukebox: 20 Greatest Hits The Way You Originally Heard Them, because it is longer.
Free Music Review: The Fat Man.....Legend in his own time Hit: 5 Stars
What can be said about Fats.....he is truly a legend in his own time. You can't listen to his music and keep your feet still. I am from New Orleans, and grew up with Fats' tunes. He is truly one of the greats of rock & roll, and has his own unique New Orleans sound. His music makes you happy. He is pretty much a recluse now, so get this album and enjoy the best of Fats.
