Free Music Notes for ArchetypeFree Music Review: Fear Factory returns; can you handle it? Hit: 5 Stars
Before I start I want to say Enigma, while you did a good review, if you aren't a real Fear Factory fan, then what does it matter what you think anyway? Fear Factory never was "mainstream nu-metalish", and you sir, are no Fear Factory fan for saying so! The truth is, you gave your opinion, and it was right at times, where you said things that were possitive, but you are quite simply wrong otherwise to say bad things about them.
If you want a good opinion, listen to me...
For many people around the world today, if you asked them who Fear Factory is, they would most likely say "No, who the hell is that?". But the reason this is, is because of a band who stayed not only true to their underground uprising, but stayed true to the hardcore genre. Fear Factory makes an inspiring return to the music industry after the loss of long time co-frontman of Fear Factory, Dino Cazares. The simple fact is, this loss in my mind could have crippled the band if it wasn't for the fact that they had already proven before that they won't give up, and that in the hardcore genre, the likes of bands such as Slipknot, Spineshank, Taproot, Shadows Fall, and Killswitch Engage all fail in comparison to Fear Factory. Now, I know everyone who sees this review will have a different opinion on this, but the fact is, Fear Factory stayed true to themselves, and their fans for over a decade, and they will continue to do so. This CD is just a small taste of what will continue to be one hell of a ride for those who worship the Factory. Now, I don't give a damn if you read this and have a bunch of bad things to say about Fear Factory, because if you do, then why the hell are you looking at this CD? It is simple, Fear Factory is back, and this CD is a brutal, melodic, and inspiring reminder that they will never go away. From a fan who has been alongside Fear Factory through thick and thin. From Soul of the New Machine, awesome release after awesome release, all the way down, over a decade later, to the hardened image of Fear Factory that now sits with this awe inspired CD, Archetype, that proves that triumph over adversity is definately a Fear Factory trait, and will stay as a reminder that Burton C. Bell, Christian Olde Wolbers, Raymond Harrera, and the awesome addition, Byron Stroud, will never say die.
Burton Bell with his unorthodox style unlike anybody in the genre today boasts a verbal assault that will make you cry at it's clairvoyant night and day difference. A man who can sing, scream, grunt, and all out just belt the hell out of his lyrics leads his fellow bandmates into war against the metal industry. Now with something to prove after their near collapse, Burton and his compadre's will definately show you something new everytime. It is the subtle art that they portray that makes them so amazing.
Christian Olde Wolbers replaces a nearly irreplaceable Dino Cazares, jumping from bass over to guitars. Christian proved a point in this CD. That the loss of a founding member won't cripple you if you have a man with the skill, heart, and love for music like Chris does. Ultimately my respect for this man tripled with the release of this CD, along with all of his bandmates.
Next is the amazing drum styles of the nearly legendary Raymond Harrera, who by the way, designs videogame music like a madman. He came into this CD with an interesting advantage over his bandmate, Christian, that is that he got to stay on his drums, and damned if he didn't show me why he is one of the best, if not the best metal drummer in existence. With his thrashing, constantly brutal style that is as if to say "if you can't handle me, then back the f*ck up". Quite simply, Raymond is a madman, and proves in this CD, two things. 1 he can play the hell out of his drums, and 2 he loves his music...
Next and finally in the band is the brand new Byron Stroud. Honestly, I haven't heard much of him until this release, but he is damned sure a good addition to this pulsepounding hardcore quartet. He plays bass much the way Christian did, but with his own twist. A solid addition, and a nice fresh face...
Ultimately my point is this. Fear Factory is a hardcore band that has deep laying roots, over a decade back, with every single major hardcore band around today. They grew touring with Fear Factory, and learned from them, as Fear Factory learned too. Many hardcore bands thank Fear Factory for their support in their own growing process, like Spineshank. Many bands have members who idolize Fear Factory, Burton Bell, and the project they began back in Cali around 1991 to 1992. Simply put, this CD is for those of you who can handle the respect, the love, and the unbelievable music Fear Factory gives you, and for those of you who can return the favor to them. If you can't handle it, then don't waste your time. Ultimately, if you know who this band is, and you know what they're about, and you know about their friends, and know what their friends are about, then you will know this CD is purely amazing. I support this CD with everything inside me for not only is this my favorite band, but has remained so for their existence. So I ask you, with millions of fans as loyal as me, and with a style unlike any other that supports just how great this band is, what side will you be on when the Factory wages it's war? I for one will be standing firmly behind Burton, Christian, Raymond, and Byron, and I know once you realize this bands true depth, that this CD is just one more beautiful addition to an already decorated list of perfection.
Before I finish, I just wish to say one final thing. Everytime I see someone say "the best tracks on this CD are" it tells me one thing, that their opinion doesn't really matter. It is from a true fan that you will be given the information that matters. Archetype, amply named, is the rebeginning of Fear Factory. In my opinion, this CD is flawless, anybody tells you otherwise and they are grossly misinformed. Take it from me, a true fan of Fear Factory, this CD is well worth your money, and this band is well worth your respect, love, admiration, and support. But the question is, can you handle it?
