Fergie is to The Black Eyed Peas is what Gwen Stefani is to No Doubt. She stands out, you knew she always had the potential to do something solo; you just did not know when. Also, like, Gwen, Fergie is a trendsetter, a great songwriter and is a chameleon when it comes to music. With all of those attributes combined: it is no wonder her 1st single: "London Bridge" sat at number 1 for many weeks and it is also no wonder why this CD is a Homerun!
Fergie seems to tackle every style of music out there and does it with an A+ each and every time! Though the CD is dominated by her tongue in cheek rap and her amazing R&B she has everything from reggae, a little rock to some very un-Fergie like ballads: that will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. We all know she can sing and it is showcased the best on the very vocal ballad: "Finally". Fergies singing voice at times will remind you of Christina (minus the oversinging) and at times Pink. One of my favorite songs on this set is: "Big Girls Don't Cry" - A nice mid-tempo/R&B influenced song. She is talking about getting over a love and how it's time to move on. The melody is great and her voice is great! Destined to be a hit. The Album opens up with the 80's sounding rap throwback of: "Fergalicious". A song that will have you dancing everytime you push play. Very Salt N Pepa, JJ Fad and Queen Latifah sounding, with Fergie's 2006 spin. SO infectious! After that we head right into another great track: "Clumsy". A nice blend of her vocals and rap talents. Fergie is talking about meeting a new guy and how she is all clumsy around him because she is falling in love with him. Great beat. "Pedestal" is another standout on this CD with a great bass line and Fergie rapping/singing. The lyrics are talking about people thinking they are better than you and how you need to knock them off their high horse. "Glamorous" is such a good song with an awesome collaboration with Ludacris. His rap shines, it is done in a very unique way.....you'll have to check it out. "Here I Come" if released will shoot straight to number 1! Great sample of a 1960's classic. A great beat. Her lyrics are smart and infectious. Again, it features Fergie rapping and singing. It also has a rap from will.i.am in it as well. AMAZING song! "Mary Jane Shoes" is a great reggae song with Rita Marley in it. It's a unique song where 3/4 of it is a slower reggae jam then all of a sudden towards the end it kicks up into a rock influenced jam-fest. Very good!
Every song on here is brilliant - those are just the ones that really standout and shine. This is a very fun CD from start to finish. Fergie is in a league of her own and is a very seasoned pro dating her back to when I used to watch her, when she and I were both very young, on KIDS Incorported! This CD is radio friendly and I am sure will spawn many, many hits.
This CD is a must have!!
