Free Music Notes for Everything Will Never Be OKFree Music Review: Super stunning debut! One hundred stars!! Hit: 5 Stars
WOW!! Not one bad track in this collection from the band Fiction Plane. Sure, Joe Sumner's voice is similiar to his dad, Sting. Any other resemblances end there, musically there is nothing here that would suggest a Police/Sting sound-a-like band! Joe is his own man and the bands sound is pure rock with brilliant memorable hooks, enough atmosphere and shimmering guitar work, to keep anyone who is looking for something fresh in rock music....very interested for a long long time. Continuous play is very recommended. The boys are even better live, if that is possible. As for Joe's powerful voice, dare I say it; it's almost better than daddy's! I got that same chill I initially experienced when I heard Sting for the first time way back when! Raw, emotional, real & just plain unique! Expect even greater things vocally from Mr. Sumner! After all, this is FPs first album & it's a stunner! Standout tracks: "Listen To My Babe", "Everything Will Never Be OK", "Cigarette", "Fallow", "Real Real", "Silence" & "Wise". The EP sampler was awesome and the full CD is definitely worth buying! One of the few debut albums which is totally satisfying thoroughout, can't wait to see them again! I can't recommended this album enough! Buy it. Period.
Free Music Review: Simply amazing group Hit: 5 Stars
Fiction Plane *is* rock and roll in the style that is sadly missing from today's radio. In a world where corporation software determines who and what and when you hear music, this band is worth the work to find. Not easily pegged into a category, Fiction Plane's music is all their own -- but the influences of Nirvana and Radiohead are definitely there. They mesh hooks and infectious tunes with intelligent lyrics that can make you think. "Hate" is a favorite -- "we're cool, we're different, and we hate things..." describes several people I knew in high school -- as well as the title cut, which refreshingly says it's OK to be imperfect, as we all are. The last track has a bonus, known as "Bongo", at the end...be sure to catch it, because it's a gem of a song.Buy the disc because you love real music by real people who really love what they do. And, by all means, when they are playing a gig near you, MAKE THE TRIP. The disc is amazing, but the live shows really convey the stellular energy that has made addicts out of many. No way you can walk away from a Fiction Plane show without a huge smile on your face and a snippet of a song in your head. (At a lot of venues, they acutally stay after to meet and greet fans...very cool, and rare now-a-days--but totally fitting for this gifted quartet.)
Free Music Review: Fiction Plane brings a fantastic sound to the mainstream Hit: 5 Stars
Bottom line to all those critics: This is a great album...no if's, and's, or but's about it. Yes, this band may remind you of all different sorts of artists - everyone from The Police to The Flaming Lips, but this album is good because they still managed to put out a creative album despite who they may (or may not) sound like that. The various sounds come together to form something awesome! "Everything Will Never Be Okay" is one of those CDs you can listen to all the way through without skipping a track... of course you might want to skip backwards and listen to the song "Real Real" like three times in a row. It's my favorite song right now... Every song on the album differs from the last one. You've got up-beat songs and even soft and soothing songs. Fiction Plane defies classification. I think they'll stick around for a long time too. So I'm one of the newest fans of FP and think this album highlights all their talents.
Free Music Review: Impressive Hit: 5 Stars
OK, so I'm a Sting fanatic. I had to give the CD a try. And yes, I'm rooting for Joe Sumner (after all, how uncomfortable can it be to have a megastar dad when you're trying to make your own musical statement, huh?) Well, no need to be concerned about Joe - WOW! This is a stunning first effort that's packed with solid musicianship. I've been playing the CD pretty often for the last two weeks and I couldn't be more impressed. FAntastic vocals, great guitar riffs, and good variations from tune to tune. Rock with an edge. I agree with the U2 and Nirvana references from an earlier review - not that this is a copycat group - they stand on their own, quite nicely! I'm telling as many folks as I can about this group, and looking forward to seeing them in concert (come to New Orleans soon guys!)Favorite tracks are #1 and #2 and the hidden tune at the end, but there's not a stinker in the whole bunch. Enjoy.
Free Music Review: 10 stars, 5 just isn't enough! Hit: 5 Stars
I have had the enormous pleasure of hearing Fiction Plane play live and like with most great live bands I found myself literally unable to stop myself from jumping to the music. I wasn't too sure how this raw, energetic sound would translate successfully to CD - I needn't have worried, this album does more than translate, it transcends! From the opening track to the hidden gem at the end, this album grasps you by the soul and shakes you to the core. Each song is alive with beautiful melody, raw and edgy guitar riffs and the riveting emotional quality of the lead singer's welcomly invasive voice. This album is PERFECT for being alone in the car - listening full volume, PERFECT for whacking up loud and rocking out in your living room, pretty much perfect for any situation. This band will go so far we'll all need binoculars to see them, as a British girl, this band makes me proud of British music.
