Free Music Notes for Everything Will Never Be OKFree Music Review: The apple didn't fall far from the tree Hit: 4 Stars
I was excited when I found out Sting's son got in to music & made an album. I was even more excited upon hearing this cd. I cannot deny that the shrills heard in Joe Sumner's voice are definitely reminiscent of early Police punk days. It is great to hear such a voice as I miss that kind of singing. It's like Joe has taken up the reigns while dad has become more mellow these days. But there is a definite uniqueness in this band & funny it is also a trio. My favorite songs on the album are `Listen to my babe', Cigarette, & Real Real.
The one thing I didn't like about the album is the pessimism in some if not all of the lyrics. It kind of paints a picture of an unhappy or gloomy life which I hope isn't true. I hope with the new album on the way he comes out with some `happier' songs. It seems like he had a lot to get off his chest judging by the content. Anyways I look forward to the new album coming out soon.
Free Music Review: Excellent CD Hit: 4 Stars
Sting's son sounds, well, just like Sting, in an almost eerie way. But this isn't a bad thing at all I found, the CD is moving and the music is a nice break from all of the annoying rap/metal/teeny bopper/pseudo-punk alternative garbage filling the air these days. The lyrics are pop lyrics, simple, in an almost ColdPlay sort of way, but manage to carry themselves nicely despite their cynicism and are the stuff of classic songs and bands from the 70's and 80's. The CD gets a little stale near the end but the majority of the songs are extremely enjoyable, catchy, and carry an edge. The band's youthfulness shows through in their lyrics, but over-all the music is quite mature and advanced, very impressive! I highly recommend this CD even if you're in your 30's like me and enjoyed U2, The Police and are into some of the newer British bands like the Dandy Warhols, Interpol, Doves and some ColdPlay among others.
Free Music Review: Good tunes!! Hit: 4 Stars
I bought this after hearing only one song from the cd. I'm a huge Sting fan and wanted to see how his son compared, and I wasn't let down. While Joe Sumner isn't quite up to par with his dad their voices are similar enough that if you're a Police fan you'll probably appreciate it.
I also enjoy the style of music FP seems to gravitate towards. They're sort of mildly dark, a grey feel, and they tell stories without telling stories. I dunno, give em a listen and decide for yourself.
Free Music Review: Our new favorite band! Hit: 4 Stars
I saw these guys in concert when they opened for the police in nyc. My husband immediate was into them so I got him two out of three of Fiction Plane's cd's. He listens to them constantly. I have to admit, I really like them too. Their sound is a little similar to sting and the police, but not the same. I think that they have quite a few good songs that could rival some of the popular songs on the radio (if these guys were ever able to get any airtime in the US!)
Free Music Review: Great Group Hit: 4 Stars
I went to a Lifehouse concert that they opened for and ended up liking Fiction Plane better than Lifehouse. They have a great sound and their music is pretty diverse... Lead singer is "Stings" son by the way.
