This CD's booklet begins with "If Finbar Wright isn't careful, he'll be an
enormous international star before long." Off this album, he deserves to be.
Every cut is a work of art. From the finest "Catari, Catari" on record, to
the enormous fun of "South of the Border" and "Valencia," to "Finlandia" and
"Santa Lucia", through lyrical and melodic contemporary songs, to the great
(and fiendishly demanding) Serenade from the Student Prince, every song is
sung as close to absolute perfection as I have ever heard in 50 years of
collecting. In voice, in heart, in musicianship, in musicality, in genre
and stylistic and language expertise, Finbar has it all. I can't imagine a
more satisfying album of tenor song. (Except perhaps one with Finbar's
"Nessun Dorma" in CD format. . . ?)
