Free Music Notes for Greyest of Blue SkiesFree Music Review: Improvements... Hit: 4 Starswell the first album "tip" was ok. some of the songs were a little hard to listen to but over all it was ok. but this new album "Grayest of blue skies" beats it out, definitely. it has some of the old styles mix with some more new. songs like "First Time", "My Carousel", and "Bones & Joints" just caught my attention right off. "Broken Words" is a nice softer song, not as heavy and provides a nice suddelty to the album. although "Walking in My Shoes" and "Drag You Down" did get a little annoying. They just didnt have very much to them. so over all, despite the two rather disappointing songs, "Grayest of blue skies" is definitely an improvement and a great album.
Free Music Review: The Natural Progression Of Getting Better With Each Album Hit: 5 StarsWhen Finger Eleven dropped their sophomore effort, "The Greyest Of Blue Skies" in mid-2000, it was sort of lost in the shuffle and hardly got any attention from radio. Most of that could be blamed for the musical climate at the time. Then, it was either Creed or Limp Bizkit, and if you didn't sound like either, you were out. Obviously, though, with the success of their most recent self-titled affair, more people are digging up this old gem and discovering what had been passed over before, even myself. I bought this album when it first came out, but didn't really give it much attention. A few tracks stuck out, but I pretty much let it get lost in a landslide of CD's. About two years ago, it re-emerged, and it has been constantly in and out of my CD player since. Following up their 1998 debut, "Tip," Finger Eleven build upon the sound they established, once again with Our Lady Peace's Arnold Lanni producing. Sonically, it's better than the first. The riffs are larger, the melodies are executed better, the production is better, overall, a better album. Hard rocking tracks like "Drag You Down" and "Suffocate" are sickeningly addictive, while other, more emotional and frail pieces like "Sick Of It All" make a louder statement. The lead-off track, "First Time" remains a favorite, as the band works with the start-stop, loud-to-quiet dynamic that other like-minded bands use, and make it their own. Other highlights include the pummeling "My Carousel" and the powerful closing track (always a tradition with F11) "Stay & Drown." Finger Eleven spans both hard-rock and alternative rock, and have a unique sound of their own. Fans of any kind of rock music could appreciate their sound. If you are new or have only heard the self-titled disc, "Greyest Of Blue Skies" is a good spring-board. You'll definitely find this album as addictive as I have.
Free Music Review: A great sophomore album. Hit: 5 StarsFinger Eleven is three albums in their career right now, and they have yet to dissapoint. This is my favorite from them. Its dark, but if you dont like evil stuff, dont be worried! This album isn't like Cradle of Filth or Dimmu Borgir or anything. If the first album you heard from them was their self-titled release "Finger Eleven" then, while this a bit different and, in a way, darker, its not like you wont notice its them. The songs are also very catchy with good lyrics, and even though they're popular in their native homeland of Canada, it still sounds much better than most of tonights generic rock clogging up radio and MTV *shudder*. I don't hate or find a single song on here boring or annoying or just plain stupid. Hopefully they'll become bigger in the United States and other countries, but they're doing decently here; and their most recent single "One Thing" is getting alot of air play. This album is short but sweet and a great record to have. So go off and get it.
